Chapter 23: The Superior Female Lead Pampers Her Husband Without Limit 23
"Be good, Xavi. Don't cry, alright?"
Jewel gently stroked her husband's face to calm him. "Do you believe what I say, Xavi?"
Xavi gave a small nod, his eyes full of tears.
Jewel continued, "I want you to remember that I'll always have only one husband—and that's you. I will never take in anyone else. I don't care what others do, but you must remember, I will only ever be good to you."
Her serious and heartfelt words rang clearly in Xavi's ears, reaching deep into his heart: "For life, forever, just the two of us."
Word by word, that last line echoed endlessly in Xavi's mind…
All he could feel was the warmth of her breath by his ear, and the deeply comforting words she had just said—she would always only treat him well.
For life, forever…
Just the two of them…
His wife—she really said that to him!
"Are… are you serious, Jewel?"
Had he misheard?
Xavi's voice trembled slightly, and he looked at her in shock and disbelief.
"Of course I am," she replied with a firm and tender look, gently caressing his soft face.
Now Xavi was completely certain—his wife had made him a promise of forever, just the two of them.
Could it really be true? Could the wish he never dared say out loud actually come true this easily?
Jewel's warm embrace filled him with a sense of safety. She gently patted his back and softly said:
"Xavi, sometimes even bad dreams aren't really a bad thing."
"What? Bad dreams can be a good thing?" Xavi didn't quite understand.
"There's an old saying—'dreams are the opposite of reality'. So if you ever have a sad dream again, just remind yourself that it means the opposite. And if you have a happy dream, tell yourself that it might come true one day. Alright?"
Most dreams are connected to our memories. They're just a normal part of sleeping. Her little husband shouldn't let random dreams affect his thoughts. Dreams, after all, can't prove anything.
Xavi listened to Jewel's words and thought about the dream he just had. If dreams are the opposite, then his dream meant that Jewel would always love him, and there would never be anyone else.
Thinking that way, the sadness in his heart vanished completely. Now all he wanted was to stay with her forever—just the two of them, happily together.
"I got it, Jewel—hic—"
Xavi stopped crying, though he hiccupped a little from crying too hard earlier.
Jewel couldn't help but laugh softly at how adorable her little husband looked, all teary-eyed in bed.
But when Xavi saw her laughing, he lowered his head shyly, a little embarrassed. The sadness from the dream completely disappeared.
Seeing that he wasn't upset anymore, Jewel felt relieved.
She couldn't help but think—her husband was really like a child. A few kind words and he was happy again.
As for the dream interpretation she gave him, it was just her way of helping him think more positively. Since he already dreamed it, there was no point in staying sad. Why not look at it with a hopeful heart? Maybe good things would follow.
Back in her previous life, she was a realist. She believed dreams were just reflections of the mind and not something that could change reality. And real life couldn't rely on wishful thinking either.
More importantly, she would never let her little husband become a "loser" in their marriage. She would protect him, always be there for him, and make sure he lived a happy life.
Once Xavi truly accepted her words, all his sadness disappeared instantly.
Jewel noticed that he was getting sleepy again, so she held him gently, their bodies close, and softly coaxed him to sleep.
Watching him sleep peacefully in her arms, free from nightmares, her expression softened.
The fact that he had such dreams and worries made her realize—she hadn't given him enough security yet.
He had come to marry her on his own, hadn't he? She was unconscious at the time, so she hadn't gone to pick him up from the Xavia family. She hadn't seen what dowry he brought, hadn't seen their wedding outfits, and there was no "marriage certificate" in this world for the two of them…
She had done too little…
She had made him feel wronged…
In her past life, she had been too busy to even experience love or marriage, but she always believed love was something pure, sacred, and beautiful.
Men here were like modern-day women. Surely, they had imagined what their future partner would be like, what kind of life they'd live after marriage.
Her little husband hadn't had a proper wedding. He had just walked into the Xie household alone and tied his future to her. That truly was a regret in his life.
She didn't want him to look back on their wedding with sadness. She didn't want her Xavi to envy others when he saw their wedding celebrations and feel that he had missed out.
A beautiful wedding is a symbol of love, a promise from the wife's family to someone they treasure. It shows how important the husband is. It gives him confidence. It marks the beginning of a complete, wholehearted life together.
Their wedding must not be something they "settled" for.
Whatever other men had, her husband would have too—and better.
She would start preparing now. Once her business grew, she would give Xavi a grand wedding—one that would let the whole town see how cherished he was. She wanted everyone to know he was her one and only, the most honored husband of the Xie family!
In her strong arms, Xavi finally drifted into a deep sleep, feeling a kind of safety he had never known before in the cool, quiet night.
…
The next morning.
Xavi's eyes were still a little puffy from crying last night. Jewel was a little worried about leaving him home alone.
If she were out all day, what if he started overthinking things again?
Maybe… she should take him with her?
They could ride the ox cart to town, and once they got to Zhong'an, she'd buy a horse carriage. Then they could ride around together. They needed a carriage eventually anyway, so why not now?
Jewel got up quietly and got dressed, planning to make some breakfast first. No need to rush—she'd let Xavi sleep in.
If she were going alone, she probably wouldn't bother with breakfast. She wasn't really hungry, and back in modern times, she hadn't been in the habit of eating breakfast regularly anyway.
But this time she was taking her husband. He wasn't like her—he couldn't skip meals. He was already skinny enough. If he didn't eat properly, how could he gain any weight?
In the kitchen, her father, Xavi's father-in-law, had already quietly made breakfast. He was worried she'd leave early without eating, so he left warm food in the pot for their thoughtful and well-mannered son-in-law.
"Dad, why are you up so early? You should rest a bit more."
Jewel had planned to make breakfast herself, but when she stepped into the kitchen, the table was already set.
"I told you yesterday—I'll handle the house chores," her father said matter-of-factly.
"Dad, just let me do it when I'm free."
She wanted her husband to rest, but she also didn't want her hardworking father to get too tired. She figured they could cook together.
Her father just smiled. Hearing her say that already made him happy.
"Oh, and Dad—our debts are all paid off now. Last night, Xavi and I counted our savings. We're getting ready to invest in the business."
