Chapter 35: The Superior Female Lead Pampers Her Husband Without Limit 35
Xavi no longer spent her days doing nothing, staring off into space out of boredom.
But still...
Even though Xavi had finally let go of the hurt and loneliness he'd been feeling, he still felt a little empty inside.
He and his wife had been married for quite some time now, but he couldn't shake the feeling that Jewel never really planned to get close to him in that way.
No matter how sweet or affectionate she was with him—hugging him, kissing him—she never showed the slightest interest beyond that.
Xavi didn't know what to do. It's not something he could just bring up himself, right? That would be way too embarrassing.
Just thinking about it made his face burn. How could he possibly say something like that out loud in front of Jewel?

The next morning, the Lin family house was once again filled with loud noise and arguing.
Lin San and An Su had a seven-month-old baby named Lin Nuo.
Because it had been chilly the day before, little Nuo had caught a cold and was now running a fever.
As babies do, he could only cry to show how miserable he felt. One hand clung tightly to his father's shirt while the other flailed in the air, crying loudly in An Su's arms.
Lin San, sitting nearby, was clearly annoyed by the noise. His rough, dark face was full of irritation toward both the child and his husband.
Eventually, he lost his temper—again—and started yelling:
"You're a father now, and you still can't take care of a baby properly?"
"If you had just dressed him more warmly, would he even be sick? Seriously, what can you do right?"
An Su didn't even react anymore. He just silently waited for his wife to finish venting.
"I'm sorry, wife... It's my fault. I'll be more careful next time. But maybe... we should take him to the village doctor soon?"
An Su didn't care what Lin San said anymore. All he hoped was that, once she was done yelling, she'd still care enough about the child to give him some money for treatment.
"All this kid does is cost us money! Other people's kids aren't always getting sick like this…"
Grumbling, Lin San stormed into the inner room, grabbing her coin pouch and counting out the coins one by one.
"That's all you're getting! Don't expect more!"
She stormed back out and threw the coins onto the table with a loud clink.
An Su looked at the small pile—barely enough for two or three pieces of flatbread. Nowhere near enough for medical treatment. He hesitated, then nervously asked:
"Wife… could you give me a bit more?"
That was the last straw.
"I already told you that's all there is! Didn't you hear me? That's half a month's worth of drinking money! And you still want more? What do you want—drain this house dry?!"
"You don't know how to manage anything, do you!"
She cursed her way back to the inner room and slammed the door shut.
Outside, An Su trembled from the sound of the door slamming. The frightened little Nuo in his arms burst into tears again.
An Su quickly wrapped the baby in another blanket and gently patted his tiny back, whispering, "Don't cry, Nuo… Daddy's here. It's okay."
Once the baby finally calmed down, An Su quietly sighed. He then carefully picked up the coins one by one from the table, treating them like treasure.
Just as he was about to leave, the door to the inner room suddenly opened again, and Lin San called out:
"Hey! Don't waste it! Bring back the leftover change!"
Every time Lin San gave An Su money, she said the same thing.
Afraid she might suddenly change her mind and take the money back, An Su didn't even dare to breathe too loudly.
"I understand," he answered softly.
The door slammed shut again, sealing the distance between the husband and wife under the same roof.
Behind that door, the woman stuck to her daily routine of eating and sleeping, nothing more.
Outside, the man held his sick child close, full of worry and exhaustion. Life had already bent his back, and he couldn't even remember how many times he had bowed to reality…

That day, Jewel packed many blankets and quilts into the carriage. She was bringing them to the room she used at the restaurant, because from now on, she was going to stay with her husband, Xavi, every day. She didn't want him to go a whole day without seeing her again.
She also planned to buy a small house in town as their new home. Running back and forth between the village and the town every day was just too inconvenient. It made more sense to move the whole family to town.
Jewel and Xavi got into the carriage, with Xavi following closely behind her. The sound of the horse's hooves echoed crisply on the road. Soon, they arrived at the restaurant.
As soon as they stepped inside, the head maid came over to ask about the promotion plan Jewel had mentioned earlier.
"Boss, what's the plan for the cooking competition tomorrow?"
To build excitement and attract attention for the grand opening, Jewel had come up with the idea of hosting a cooking competition right at the restaurant. People from the town would be invited to taste and vote on their favorite dishes—for free.
It was all part of building up the restaurant's reputation. As long as she made sure the food quality and service were excellent, business would boom.
Xavi was energized by the lively atmosphere. When he found out the three chefs would be competing soon, he grew curious and asked Jewel:
"Wife, can I go check out the kitchen?"
How could Jewel say no to that hopeful look in his eyes?
"This is your home too, Xavi. You can go wherever you like, look at whatever you want."
She gently took his soft hand and led him into the kitchen as she spoke.
"You're the best, my wife~" Xavi said with a sweet smile that made Jewel feel warm inside.
Lately, she had noticed that her little husband had started replacing "my wife is so nice" with "my wife is the best" when complimenting her. He was even getting better at being affectionate.
She could tell he had become more relaxed and cheerful compared to when they first got married.
And that made her heart feel full and sweet.
Inside the Yanxi Restaurant, big tables had already been set up, each holding a large ceramic pot, ready for the cooking showdown.
