The Tycoon Inheritance

Chapter 84: 83.

Shanghai

"Madam. The young master has returned."

The butler at Sun Yilan's side relayed the message from the lower staff in a plain voice.

"After a week, he decides to grace me with his presence. Bring him to me." Sun Yilan had already been in a bad mood for the past few days after numerous obstructions and failed attempts, she was not seeing the track back onto the path she carefully created.

That blasted man!

Since that announcement, those who think they can become dragons have flocked to Chenyu. Thankfully, this competition is categorized or else the stocks of Chenyu will drop.

It took ten minutes for that son of hers to visit her. When he arrived at her private garden there wasn't a sign of grievance or anger. He did have a thoughtful look on his face but his entire demeanor was calm. Chen Boyang didn't care what was going on in his mother's fanciful mind, he was trying to sort out his own problems after gaining some revelations.

"XiaoYang! It takes a week to return home after I called? Is the transportation system not working when it comes to you?" Sun Yilan began her tirade against her precious son, thinking he would appease her like he always does when she's greatly agitated.

It took her a while to notice Chen Boyang's strange attitude, even

the butler who held him when he was cub, noticed this.

Did his father's decision strike him heavily? Maybe his friends are taking advantage of the situation.

"XiaoYang, tomorrow we'll visit your grandfather. He has the last say to the affairs of the company. Don't mind your father, he's probably acting out."

The butler's lips twitched in amusement. The master is so old, how can he be 'acting out'. Boyang on the other hand found his mother's words ridiculous. If he didn't visit his father before coming home, he would have jumped at the chance of visiting his grandfather.

As they say, despair can breed maturity. After the blow of meeting his biological older brother and learning of his achievements, a sense of inferiority washed over him. It shattered his halo. Another blow came from this hand-over competition his father began.

Wasn't he the heir to the Chenyu Group?

Taking it away publicly was a major embarrassment.

The next blow came from his father's truthful words.

The truth is the hardest pill to swallow. Boyang didn't care about his mother's grievance against his father, he just wanted to be alone. During his observation from his mother's last call to him and the atmosphere of the house, it is clear that word of father's firstborn hasn't met them yet.

Maybe this time his mother would do an act of vomiting blood and fainting delicately like a burdened consort.

"Whatever you say, mother." Boyang didn't have the energy to go against her and Sun Yilan noticed his strange silence.

"Why aren't you proactive? It's because of your lack of enthusiasm that your father hatched this stupid plan. You should be angry that he's giving away what is rightfully yours. Why are you so spineless!! Why can't you be as good as the second-branch children? After all I did for you why are you not on their level? If you were of some worth then your father would have looked at you and not done something like this. You're such a WASTE!!"

The air stilled after Sun Yilan's shrill admonishment. Never in her years as a mother has she yelled at her son but today broke that knowledge.

The butler was dumbfounded; the two waiting servants had gossip-filled eyes shining brightly and the main character Boyang, simply stared at his mother with narrowed eyes with blooms of contempt.

The older woman can be seen panting slightly due to the release of her pent-up frustration with her child and the position he was in. Though she was pushing him for her benefit, she wanted him to be successful also but he wasn't working as hard as her.

Sensing the unnatural silence and realizing what she said in anger, Sun Yilan retook the image of a loving mother and wanted to coax her child but he cut her off instead.

"Mother. Who is the most important at a company?" Boyang asked calmly. There was no anger or resentment in his voice. It's like he expected this blow-up from his mother, and now he is asking an unrelated question.

"The CEO of course," Sun Yilan snapped, annoyed by this silly question. Wasn't this what she taught him? Why isn't he paying attention?

"Heh. According to my father, your answer is wrong. I'll see you tomorrow when we leave for Grandfather's place." Boyang's mocking answer pierced the ears of those listening, his mother even more so, because it was she who taught Boyang that the CEO is the most important and dominant person.

To have her answer pierced right through was losing face among the lower staff.

Chen Boyang didn't care who was affected by his answer, he was bracing himself for the next shit storm that will hit the family and find out what he's good at to prove himself to his father.

Nanjing

The end of another workday came once again. In the carpark of one of the many finance buildings, a young man leaned against a luxury car, smoking a cigarette in a distracted fashion. His suit jacket was missing and the sleeves of his dress shirt were rolled up, showing fair, strong arms. His once carefully groomed hair was messy, wantonly shadowing his deep dark eyes from the passersby.

A few people passed this young man and couldn't help but advise him on what he was doing. How can he be so bold to lean against such an expensive car? If he scratches it, can he pay for the repairs?

The young man gave them a small smile of thanks and had no intention of moving.

Even if he tells them that he's the owner of the Koenigsegg he was leaning on, that will prolong into more presumptuous comments. He's too tired to talk.

Lifting his hand with the idly burning cigarette, he slowly took in the herbs that gave him a momentary comfort, off-handedly showing the diamond-crusted Vacheron Constantin watch to those who wanted to offer a bit of education to him.

The knowledgeable people stopped upon taking a closer look at the young man while the worldly ignorant wanted to flex some superiority.

His phone lit up.

Wife: I'm off. Where are you?

A soft smile graced his face. He made a move. On his second step, four men in dark suits immediately approached him and moved to form a protective formation around him as he moved toward the building.

Those who witnessed this show of might were dumbfounded. It's not every day they can peep at the life of a tycoon's daily happenings.

Those who were reprimanding the tycoon scurried away with burning faces. Weren't rich people supposed to have immaculate appearances, is that one an oddity?

Chen Kai was indifferent to the looks around him. He calmly entered the lobby with his bodyguards and waited a few meters from the elevator banks. He patiently waited for her.

They haven't spoken well nor seen each other for an entire week. Chen Kai threw himself into his work, moving from company to company and hosting many overseas meetings and domestic ones. He kept himself busy and away from Su Lian, knowing she needed some space.

Last night she sent a simple message – I'm spending the weekend with you.

One message broke his high-intensity work pace and he switched gears to a love-sick fool awaiting his wife to come home. On the surface he was happy that she contacted him, ready to talk but underneath he settled his heart to accept whatever decision she made.

Waiting for her, released a tired sigh and then stood straighter to let her see her man when she leaves the elevator. Handing the guard beside him the cigarette, he used his hand to brush his hair back and silently waited. Stressful.

[If the host's chosen partner wishes to end the relationship, would he proceed with the previously mentioned declaration?]

'Without hesitation.'

[Due to this one's deductions, a new partner can be sourced leaving room for clear feelings and emotions. Doesn't the host wish for this? According to the host's previous patterns, any negligible relationships are to be severed. The relationship between the previous host and Su Lian was ambiguous at most.]

'It was ambiguous for them both. It was for me too when I first met her. Is it wrong for two men to be attracted to the same woman? He's no longer here. I am.'

The system went through its calculations and reported on the present host; his actions were completely different from previous cases. The host is fully assimilating with this world and is letting go of his past title of transmigrator. It's commendable after all he is retired. Other retirees never adapted so quickly but this host did.

The system created an on-site report and sent it back to headquarters. They would adjust the host's belongings and assets from past lives accordingly.

[The host is adjusting at a very steady rate.]

Chen Kai was about to reply when the elevator doors opened.

The woman who held his heart was at the front of the group in the elevator. Her hair was freed from the sleek bun she wore during working hours, and it lay gently on her shoulder. The red locks were bright against her white blouse, tempting him to step forward to run his fingers through them.

Her head was lowered as she typed one-handedly on her phone with her weekend bag and handbag in the other.

Seeing the larger bag press onto her fair skin, he rushed forward and deftly took them from her hold.

She was slightly startled but calmed down when she saw those familiar eyes full of affection for her.

His cautious smile and stance pierced her heart. She knew her absence from his daily life caused him unease; thankfully she came to her senses about their relationship.

"You're here."

Her soft voice calmed him better than his cigarettes. Leading her away, he held her hand gingerly and led her out with the security team shielding them.

In the carpark, Su Lian's coworkers were witnesses to Chen Kai's wealth when they saw her being escorted to the Koenigsegg Gemera and the security envoy that entered the black G-wagons beside the luxury car.

"Both of them are college graduates, right? How did he earn enough cash to have such a big pomp?" a young woman asked in a suggestive tone.

"Maybe he's using his boss's prestige?" Someone commented not caring much about the specifics.

"A newcomer catching the eye of a big boss because of qualifications?" the woman replied with a 'you know what I really mean' tone. When they recalled the immaculate handsome features of Su Lian's boyfriend, it wasn't hard to pin the title 'white-face' on him.

The others listening caught on and snickered in disdain, thinking of Su Lian being two-timed. It wasn't the current newcomers who were envious and jealous of her, but a few older workers couldn't stand such an outstanding new recruit prancing around their territory. They were willing to do what they could to make her acknowledge her place.

"Pffft! So all those luxury goods are probably paid for by the real madam? How…. Pathetic!," another woman commented with a mocking laugh.

They couldn't wait to share their discovery. They couldn't wait to see the look on Su Lian's face when she finds out the truth about her sweetheart.

On the other side, the main character of their unfounded gossip was trying to bring up a safe conversation with her man.

Everything depended on the mood and environment. From Chen Kai's unruly image, she knew her attitude toward him affected him harshly. It was a bittersweet feeling knowing how her existence affects someone else in such a way. She had to find the right time to tell him how she felt and her decision.

"H-How is work?"

Her awkward start to the conversation made him laugh.

"We aren't entirely strangers on a blind date, my Lian. It's okay. Let's leave the heavy talk for after dinner, right?"

Chen Kai's response was his normal teasing self when it comes to her. The past Chen Kai had that same innate talent to make her happy and calm. His low and steady voice was a drug to her, always having her blush whenever he teased her. This time it was no different.

"Right!"

His low laugh filled the confines of the car, bringing her back to the beginning of their official relationship. This 'Li Yun' isn't a bad person, he's genuine and not different from the other Kai.

"Not everyone can adapt to new things, especially something as this," he said softly.

Su Lian sighed and tiredly rubbed her forehead. "It was confusing and I couldn't help but feel tangled. I knew what I wanted but my worldview on things made things hazy. I'm sorry, Kai."

"I understand." He wanted to ask the big question but stopped himself. He did suggest leaving it for after dinner talk but now….

"Can you tell me about your… um… travels?" The uncertain request was cute.

"… Life on other stars is just like the light novels……"

All the way back to the Sleeping Dragon Villa, Chen Kai vividly told her about his past lives.

Only the good side of course.
