Chapter 7: The challenge of the bells I.
In just a few seconds, with a sudden puff of smoke, Sensei appeared.
"Sensei, you're late!!!"
"Yeah, Sensei! You should have arrived earlier!!!"
Facing Sakura and Naruto's complaints, Kakashi gave his usual excuse.
"I got lost watching the birds."
Then, he began analyzing our bodies with a sharp gaze.
"Did you eat? Even though I explicitly told you not to?"
As he spoke, he released a powerful killing intent and an Elite Jounin-level chakra wave.
The chakra itself had no effect on me or my brother, as we were on the same level—perhaps even above him—but the killing intent was still annoying.
I responded in kind, releasing my own killing intent, which wasn't much weaker than his. It also helped relieve the sense of danger and hostility.
"Sensei, we decided to eat despite your orders, understanding that a ninja should never go into training or a mission on an empty stomach. Since you mentioned yesterday that we might have a training exercise, we chose to have a small meal."
I spoke calmly and confidently.
He looked at me for a moment before finally easing his energy and responding positively.
"Good. Remember that."
"For today's activity, each of you four will try to take these bells from me."
As he spoke, he moved slightly, making the three bells on his waist jingle softly.
"But, Sensei, there are only three bells?" Sakura asked, quickly noticing the missing fourth one.
With a wicked smile, he replied:
"Well... the one who fails to get a bell will return to the academy."
Everyone, except me, of course—because even after twelve years, I still remembered this iconic scene, at least the key points—reacted with shock.
That's why I had already planned ahead and made a few preparations.
My teammates, or at least the two more excitable ones, immediately protested, but Kakashi didn't care in the slightest, and I held my brother back.
"Remember, attack with the intent to kill! Three, two, one—begin!"
He announced while pulling out a book.
The moment the match started, Sasuke and Sakura dashed at high speed and hid in the forest.
Meanwhile, Naruto and I stayed behind.
"I'll take you on alone, Kakashi-sensei!!!"
Foolishly and slightly arrogantly, Naruto declared his challenge. Still, I could see hints of caution and awareness—he wasn't acting recklessly.
Over the years, I had warned him enough, and since I had helped him in training multiple times, he wasn't entirely reckless anymore.
Sensei kept the book in hand and glanced sideways at us.
"Uzumakis and their bad judgment."
Ignoring him, we sprang into action.
Naruto used his favorite technique, creating more than twenty shadow clones. Ten rushed at Sensei using taijutsu, while five remained on standby, observing his movements. The last group started weaving hand seals, preparing to use ninjutsu.
As for me, I swiftly formed hand signs and created a water blade, sending it slashing toward him with sharp force.
Sensei dodged effortlessly, but I didn't stop there—I immediately followed up with a wind blade jutsu to complement the first attack.
By then, Naruto's clones had finished preparing. As they closed in on Sensei, he was forced to jump and engage them, striking one after another. Meanwhile, the remaining clones took the chance to fire wind bullets. Some attacks destroyed a few clones due to their lack of coordination, while I focused on forming my own strategy.
Their battle lasted a while, but in the end, Sensei overwhelmed Naruto's clones by using Fire Release jutsu, hand seals, and a mix of kunai, shuriken, and taijutsu. At the very least, he had finally closed his book.
Of course, given my brother's massive chakra reserves, he kept summoning more clones—but then, in an unexpected move, Sensei emerged from the ground and grabbed Naruto.
However, the one he caught was just another clone.
The fight continued for a while longer until the ultimate jutsu was unleashed.
"A Thousand Years of Death!!!"
Watching the scene, I was momentarily speechless and slightly embarrassed—but I kept my focus on Sensei.
Seizing the distraction, I activated the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu, creating eight clones.
Three used wind blade jutsu, while another three wielded water blades.
Two clones enhanced their speed with the Body Flicker Technique and closed the distance for close-quarters combat.
Six sharp elemental blades cut through the air, aiming to slice through him.
Meanwhile, my clones moved their hands in a peculiar manner, murmuring in their minds:
"Phantom Hand."
As if my hands had become intangible, they advanced with a chilling aura, capable of draining life with a single touch.
Sensing danger from multiple directions, Sensei finally closed his book, a serious expression appearing on his face.
His body flickered, dodging the attacks, while my ninjutsu and taijutsu were redirected to strike at him. Moving with great speed and strength, he swiftly eliminated my clones.
Unlike Naruto, however, my clones showed more coordination and had a better grasp of taijutsu. Still, an Elite Jounin's level—even when slightly suppressed—was not easy to surpass.
Of course, I was well aware of that.
I created two more shadow clones, both moving their hands rapidly, channeling all their energy into their next wind jutsu.
"Wind Style: Wind Bullet!"
Four massive wind bullets shot forward.
Immediately, Sensei placed his hands on the ground, creating a dome of earth to shield himself from the attacks.
Suddenly, I felt danger from behind. I activated Body Flicker to dodge, but the threat didn't disappear.
"Nine Lotus Style: Second Lotus—Defensive Lotus!"
A lotus-shaped projection appeared behind me as my arms instinctively blocked a kunai and a kick.
A portion of my chakra was consumed—as expected, my martial arts manual was based on Wuxia techniques, and some of them required energy to activate.
Seeing this, Sensei spoke.
"An unusual taijutsu style... I don't recall seeing it in the library."
I responded calmly.
"One day, while exploring the village, I found an old training ground where it was hidden. Since I discovered it, the Third Hokage allowed me to keep the manual, as long as I promised to pass it on if I ever found a worthy student."
In reality, I had written the book myself, making it look ancient before presenting it to the old man.
After all, a combat style this complete needed a proper backstory. Luckily, I had convinced Grandpa to let me keep it. He never tried to take it away—perhaps partly because he trusted that I wouldn't betray the village, given my status as the Fourth Hokage's child and a Jinchuuriki.
Nodding at my explanation, Sensei engaged me in close-quarters combat.
But in the end, with a shadow clone appearing behind me, I lost the match.
Even though my taijutsu held its own and had various advantages over the styles here, Kakashi's versatility with jutsu and his vast experience still surpassed mine.
"Well, I lost this one. I'm leaving."
With a puff of smoke, my body vanished, revealing it had been a clone all along.
Watching me disappear, Kakashi reopened his book and mused to himself:
"I might have underestimated her, which played a role in this outcome. She has an unusual way of concealing her presence and chakra... Her sensory skills were also remarkable. Given the way she set up certain distractions, she likely planned ahead to keep me from noticing. A solid strategist."
Satisfied, Sensei turned his attention to the forest, beginning his pursuit of the remaining students—just as the Spartans did in the ancient world.
