Chapter 280: Manmeyer
[ Third Person POV ]
Manmeyer Manor
"This is it! The Manmeyer household....creepy, right?" The boy asked nervously as he took a step back from the manor.
The manor itself was simply majestic; it settled on top of a small hill that slightly overlooked the east side of the Holy City. Ken's mouth was agape as he continued to process the majesty of the mansion and tried to figure out what exactly made such a mansion creepy.
"Just look at the old design of the house. Who even uses that nowadays? The last time it was used was during the Old Age, and even then, major houses wouldn't even allow their slaves to touch those designs," The boy remarked.
Ken shrugged his shoulders and slowly began walking towards the entrance, and the boy quickly followed him behind.
During their walk towards the Manmeyer Manor, Ken told the boy about his adventures around the Grand Line. The boy would listen, and his eyes would widen with excitement whenever Ken mentioned something he had never heard of before. All in all, during the short time they interacted with each other, they managed to cultivate a small relationship. One akin to an older brother and a younger one.
"Isaac, keep your wits about you. Though you may be a World Noble, I don't think you're safe from whatever is waiting for us," Ken told the young boy as he felt something ominous in the distance.
Isaac Ethanbaron nervously nodded his head as he kept looking around. Almost every person within the vicinity remained unconscious, and only some of the World Government agents were slowly beginning to stir.
Ken's gaze remained sharp as he spread his Observation Haki around the manor. The ominous feeling that he had been feeling from the moment he entered the manor amplified as he finally took note of what he had been feeling.
'I'll just avoid it for now; there's no need to start a fight that can be avoided.'
Ken led Isaac towards a fleet of stairs that he assumed would have taken him downstairs, taking the duo down through the darkness that would eventually lead them to the Manmeyer family dungeon.
"Wow.....I've never been in a dungeon before. Grampa always told me that I needed to be an adult if I wanted to go into a dungeon," Isaac remarked.
"Well....there's a reason why he didn't want you snooping around down here," Ken replied.
As Ken said this, they were passing through various torture chambers that had been occupied. Within them, there were countless slaves of different races hung up by their arms dangling within. There were torches that illuminated the cells, and although the light illuminated a pathway, it was difficult to determine whether the cells' occupants were alive or dead.
Nonetheless, Ken continued looking around for any signs of his target. A couple of humans had closely fitted the description Ken was looking for, but they missed the mark by one way or another.
The dungeon was almost as vast as the manor that they were infiltrating. The pathway seemed almost never-ending, but Ken persisted in his search for Ginny. Even if he didn't find her in the Manmeyer Manor, Ken could investigate other possible locations.
"Hey," Isaac spoke for the first time in a while, "why is that cell more secure than the others?"
Ken turned to look at where Isaac had been pointing at. The cell that Isaac was talking about had a boarded cell that prevented anyone from getting a proper look at its occupants, and there weren't any torches near it, making it really hard for anyone to notice the cell to begin with.
The only reason Ken ignored it was because the prisoner was lying right in front of him. She was a brunette who had freckles similar to Ginny's.
"Let's find out," Ken muttered as he kicked the door in. The door broke in and revealed a dusty, dark cell.
Isaac grabbed a torch that had been hanging from a nearby wall to illuminate whatever was in the broken-in cell. The light gently landed on a young woman who lay on the ground unconscious. However, unlike the rest of the prisoners who had been trapped within the Manmeyer's dungeon, she remained unshackled. However, the injury that was on her leg snuffed any possibility of her being able to escape.
Ken's eyes widened as he slowly zeroed in on the prisoner's face; it was the exact copy of what Ken had been looking for all this time.
His initial shock turned into excitement before it slowly turned into dread as he reevaluated her injury.
"There's no way she's going to be able to move normally....I'm going to have to carry her," Ken muttered as he gently went to pick her up. However, his Observation Haki immediately warned him of an imminent danger approaching.
Lightning flickered around him. Ken immediately appeared right next to Isaac and gently shoved him to the side. Ken had already propped Ginny up somewhere safe before he moved to Isaac.
His arms were coated with Armament Haki as he crossed them right before him and tanked the blow from the mysterious figure. The blow was strong enough to send him through the walls of the dungeon.
"It seems that the Commander-In-Chief has failed in containing the situation....How troublesome," A male voice echoed from the entrance of the cell.
The flickering light that had illuminated the cell previously was promptly extinguished right after Ken had been sent flying into the walls of the cell.
The ominous presence that he initially felt when he entered the manor was now standing right before him. The sheer strength that the figure was releasing made Ken's brow furrow with a drop of cold sweat. Although he wasn't as strong as Former Fleet Admiral Kong, the figure's strength was pretty close.
Ken got back up before cracking his neck sideways; the blow he received wasn't serious enough for him to have raised worries.
"Who are you?" Ken asked as he readied himself for another fight.
"That isn't for you to worry about, young man," the figure replied before slightly bending his knees in a fighting stance. "The name of the Manmeyer Family won't be sullied because a pirate decided to break into our prestigious home."
No more words needed to be said; Ken immediately used Soru to appear right in front of the man. His lightning-coated fists glowed and revealed the man's partial face before Ken tried to land his fist right on the man's face.
However, the man raised his hand to block the blow, the resulting blow partially causing a shockwave that shook the entire room. The man immediately pushed back Ken's fist before sending his fist right on Ken's abdomen. However, Ken turned to lightning and reappeared right to the man's side before kicking the man's side.
The kick had lightning laced with it, so the impact generated more power than the man anticipated. Sending him crashing through the dungeon's cells as a result, although he wasn't sent as far.
On the other hand, Ken wasn't done just yet. He already knew he hadn't harmed a foe like him much. So he immediately followed the path of destruction with his arms laced with Haki and lightning.
He couldn't afford to perform large-scale attacks because Ginny and the boy were still within the confines of the dungeon. He would have relied on Isaac to help Ginny get out of the dungeon, but the kid was knocked unconscious thanks to the man he was fighting.
"I need to wrap this up fast...." Ken muttered to himself as he eventually appeared right in front of the man and landed another blow right to the man's chest before the man could even raise his hands to block.
Consequently creating a blow that would send him through another cell wall, but the man remained standing.
