The Walking Dead : Rules of Survival

Chapter 41: Ch 41 : Super strong combat power

"Sis? What are you doing?" Yangyang asked.

"What do you mean, what am I doing? I'm going down to help!"

"They don't need our help," Shen Feng said as he stepped forward.

I looked at him and Yangyang in confusion.

"How can they not need help? Do you know how many walkers are down there?"

"They have so many weapons, so many guns protecting them. What are we going to do with just a few broken knives?"

"Who says knives can't help? Come with me, let's go see if we can help!" I retorted.

Shen Feng and Yangyang seemed like they wanted to say something.

From their expressions, it was clear they believed that with so many of them down there, Suo Tian and the others could handle the situation, and there was no need for us to risk ourselves and make it unnecessary.

At that moment, Xu Shu pulled out a dagger, ran over to me, and patted me on the shoulder, saying, "Chen Yang, I'm going with you."

I turned to her and nodded. "Okay, we'll go together."

Then, I turned back to Yangyang and Shen Feng and said with a hint of annoyance, "Are you two going to help or not?"

Shen Feng and Yangyang exchanged a look.

Both of them sighed, pulled out their own knives, and Yangyang said sarcastically, "Well, since Big Boss Chen has spoken, what can we say?"

I gave him a harsh glare, then turned to signal for Shen Xue to take care of Rongrong.

I also glanced at Jun Di, who was still sitting huddled in the corner.

I shook my head helplessly; that kid was pretty much done for.

The four of us, holding knives, quickly ran downstairs.

As soon as we stepped out of the stairwell, the overwhelming sensation of gunfire and explosions completely surrounded us.

Listening to the booming gunshots around us and seeing the synchronized team movements, I finally realized... maybe they really didn't need us.

I scanned the horde of walkers, which hadn't decreased much, and glanced at the snipers crouching on the car roofs.

If we recklessly charged forward with just knives, we'd probably end up hindering them, making them hesitate to fire for fear of hitting us.

At that moment, Suo Tian suddenly raised his hand and made a series of gestures.

Almost immediately, the gunfire stopped all at once.

Just as we were still bewildered, not understanding what was happening, Suo Tian made another gesture, then drew a dagger from the bag strapped to his leg and charged towards the nearest walker in front of him.

The black-clad people around us all drew their knives and put their guns down, quickly charging forward.

Even a fool would understand the meaning of Suo Tian's gesture now!

He was signaling for everyone to move forward and engage in close combat with the horde of walkers.

I turned to look at Shen Feng and the others, saying, "It's time to help!"

Then, gripping my dagger tightly, I charged forward as well!

What followed was a brutal battle between humans and walkers!

Walkers kept falling to the ground, and only the snipers on top of the cars continued to shoot.

The rest of us, all wielding knives, personally moved forward to stab the walkers' brains out!

Suo Tian's plan came at just the right time, because the walker horde was scattered.

Not only was shooting more difficult, but it also wasted a lot of ammunition.

Whether they were running low on bullets or not, it was always better to conserve ammo whenever possible.

At this point, it was much easier to just have everyone use knives to take them down!

With so many people, as long as we coordinated well, we wouldn't have to worry about being surrounded.

Moreover, there were at least four or five snipers on the car roofs providing cover for everyone.

People often channel unnecessary hatred onto things or people that had nothing to do with it, something I saw often before the apocalypse.

But after the apocalypse, it cleverly improved these things.

Humanity's hatred for walkers could not be diverted; it could only be taken out on the walkers themselves!

Scenes flashed through my mind non-stop—the female resident bitten to death, the neighbor bitten to death, Wai Zui bitten to death, the deranged Zhao Qiuting, and Xiao Yin who was bitten to death.

The bloody images filled my entire brain.

Looking at the walkers in front of me, their mouths open and roaring, their faces completely rotten and grotesque, a wave of anger and bloodlust filled my chest!

The movements of hacking at the walkers grew fiercer.

With each strike, the blood and flesh flying everywhere sharply stimulated my senses, and I was almost blinded by rage.

In front of the row of small buildings was a patch of grass.

Now that it was cold, the grass had withered, leaving only some dead branches.

At this moment, the ground was almost covered with a layer of black bloodstains, with brain matter and severed limbs scattered everywhere.

The black-clad people were all quite skilled, and their sense of teamwork was extremely strong.

They must have been specially trained for a long time; such coordination couldn't have been achieved overnight.

Although everyone's movements were fast, the number of walkers was sufficient.

After a long period of hacking, once the initial energy began to fade, I was left holding on through sheer mental strength.

This should not have been the case.

When dealing with walkers, unless it's an urgent situation, fighting while fatigued is a major mistake.

With so many people acting at once, this was clearly not an emergency.

But the fierceness in my heart had already surfaced.

I couldn't stop until I was fully satisfied with my strikes.

I wouldn't rest until it felt right!

Today, I was determined to push through to the end.

After quite some time, as I hacked down what seemed like the umpteenth walker, the area around me was finally clear, and no more walkers stood in front of me.

I panted heavily, my hands propped on my knees to catch my breath.

My white down jacket was now covered in a sticky mess of brain matter and blood, and it was nearly impossible to see its original color from the front.

"Are you alright?" A young man in black uniform crouched down and asked.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." I waved my hand at him, still catching my breath.

"You're pretty impressive. You look so thin, but your strikes are so quick," he said, seemingly in much better physical condition than I was.

Despite having hacked at walkers for so long, he appeared as if nothing had happened to him.

I looked up at him.

He had a young face—nothing particularly striking, but there was a clean feeling about him.

My impression of him improved a little.

I pulled the corners of my mouth into a faint smile, took a deep breath to steady myself, and then said, "It's not about being quick or not. The more you hack, the more you figure it out."

He chuckled twice and curiously asked, "My name's Nan An—'Nan' like in the south, and 'An' like in safety. What about you?"

I glanced at him and grinned, "You must have used that line to impress girls before, huh?"

"No way! I've always been in the team. It's hard to even see girls throughout the year," he scratched his head, laughing.

Just as he was about to speak again, his eyes darted over to the direction of Suo Tian.

Suddenly, he wiped the smile off his face and said, "Gather the team. I'll head back first. We'll talk later if we get the chance," and then quickly ran in that direction.

Following his gaze, I realized, unknowingly, I had hacked my way all the way from the small building to the road...

I stood still for a moment, took a few deep breaths, and looked back at the black-clad people gathering together.

Although I was a little too far to see where Nan An was, I immediately spotted Suo Tian.

He stood silently among the crowd, while the man with the thick beard beside him kept shouting loudly at the group.

Shen Feng and Yangyang called me to come back, and as I approached them, I could finally hear what the bearded man was shouting, "Do you guys even know what coordination means? Do the snipers understand the concept of cover fire?! What's going on with you all? So many people, so many guns, so much cover, and you still let Xiao Zheng get bitten!"

The Xiao Zheng the bearded man was talking about must have been the black-clad person we saw earlier upstairs who got bitten.

I quickly looked around, trying to spot where Xiao Zheng was.

I scanned the open ground in every direction but couldn't find anyone.

Just as I was puzzled, my gaze stopped, and I was almost stunned in place!

The person who had been bitten was standing among the black-clad group, his body upright.

If it weren't for his pale face, I almost wouldn't have noticed him.

He had been bitten like that and was still trying to stay in formation?

After the bearded man shouted a few more things, he yelled something else, and then Xiao Zheng slowly stepped forward, taking two steps out of the formation.

I stared intensely at his face, hoping to discern what he was thinking in that moment.

But unfortunately, there was nothing—Xiao Zheng's face showed no expression at all.

Perhaps the lack of expression itself was the greatest expression, as he faced the hellish despair of his past with a trace of calmness.

Looking at Xiao Zheng's pale, youthful face, my nose felt sore.

This kid... he should be only a few years older than Yangyang, right?

Suo Tian, who had been silent all this time, took a few steps forward and stood next to Xiao Zheng, whispering something to him.

After hearing it, Xiao Zheng's body stiffened noticeably.

Hesitantly, he slowly raised the arm that had been bitten.

Suo Tian glanced at it, nodded, and then said something else to Xiao Zheng.

Finally, Xiao Zheng's expressionless face shattered, replaced by a mixture of despair and unwillingness.

Once Suo Tian finished speaking, he made a hand gesture toward the team and walked back toward the building.

Xiao Zheng remained standing in place, his hand still raised, his eyes fixed on one spot.

The bearded man walked up to him, patted him on the shoulder, and sighed.

He shook his head as he removed the gun from Xiao Zheng's shoulder.

When the gun was taken off, Xiao Zheng instinctively grabbed at the sling.

But he didn't grab anything.

He just looked sadly at the bearded man, who took his gun and retreated to the side.

After the bearded man stepped back, the remaining black-clad individuals also distanced themselves, leaving only one person standing in place.

The person who stayed behind walked up to Xiao Zheng, gave him a hug, then slowly began to back away, facing him.

Then... slowly raised the gun.

My heart almost instantly turned into a knot—they were preparing to personally send Xiao Zheng on his way!

I raised my leg, ready to step forward to stop them, but was yanked back by Shen Feng.

He shook his head at me and said, "He's destined to die; it's only a matter of time. Rather than letting him turn into a walker and then killing him, it's better to give him release now."

I choked on my words, unable to speak, glancing at Shen Feng before looking back at Xiao Zheng.

He stood there, his head already lowered.

The black-clad person in front of him had already aimed at him, and I was suffocated by the scene, almost unable to breathe.

Bang!

After a spray of blood, Xiao Zheng collapsed to the ground.

My heart seemed to drop into an abyss with the sound of that gunshot.

I didn't know what words could describe the feeling I had at that moment.

Xiao Zheng was undoubtedly a strong person, but now he could only helplessly lie on the ground with his shattered skull.
