Chapter 498: You Look Like Him
(From Blue's Perspective)
"The King did not look mad," Luc said.
"Sit down, Luc, and drink some tea. We are finally back at the palace and I need some time to think," I said.
"But really, isn't it weird?" he said as he finally sat down. Evan had to go back to Trouvaille and promised to return within fifteen days. He spent more time here than in his own kingdom. Now that he was sure I had enough power to stand against the person he wanted to defeat so badly, I thought he would be very enthusiastic.
But his mood did not improve much and rather than his useful, confident, and chill self, he looked gloomy most of the time.
"Not when he will strike again. This time, it won't be Mazazine, I believe. The King did not look mad only because he was not being controlled anymore," I said and gestured to Perita who poured us tea. "Didn't you see how weak and confused he looked? He knew he had led the war, but he was not sure exactly why, or what he had been doing. He had lost his family.
Now, I guess he will just try to clear his head."
"But this doesn't mean it is over," Ruby said. She had her head resting on Luc's shoulder. "Azure… will surely try to do something else."
"Of course. I think he will try to find Demetrius now," I said.
"Where is he anyway?" Luc asked. "I have no idea whether he is even alive."
"He is," I said. "He is safe for now. I will try everything I can to get him to safety. It will take a while. I'm sorry, but I cannot give you more details. There is a lot of work.
I hope you two will help me as much as you can. I have contacted the duke and Iris. Iris will come to the palace tomorrow. I need her to oversee the state of our kingdom and our people and how much help they will need to recover from the war. It has not been a long time since our kingdom had been at war, but it did enough damage."
"… Blue, can Demetrius be saved?" Luc asked now. The terror in his voice did not miss my notice. Even talking about it seemed to break my heart. But did Luc not deserve to know the truth? He had been with him for a long time, and supported him. It was unfair for him not to know about his best friend.
"… He might or might not live," I murmured. It broke my heart to even say those words. A sob escaped me, but I regained my composure quickly. "He… was poisoned as I said before. The poison… We had no idea. There was no way to understand.
No doctor could trace it. But that night… His condition suddenly worsened. He was in pain and his body was getting cold… I did not know what to do, but I could feel it, you know. I could see it… I could see he was dying. I called Doctor Dimitri and he could not trace the poison. It was… just as if something invisible poison was pulling him towards death.
I told Doctor Dimitri to put him in a coma, so at least, we get a chance to save him, or… he might not have survived the night."
Ruby gasped and Luc was shaking his head. He looked mortified. "It cannot… No matter how much of an annoying bastard he is, he cannot die," he said. "He cannot die… He absolutely must live! Who will I taunt if he dies?"
He suddenly got up and grabbed me by the shoulders. "Where is he?"
"Luc, calm down…," Ruby started, trying to get him to back away from me.
"Take me to him," he said. His voice was low, but he was shaking. "I have to see him. Take me there, Blue. You must take me there. I have been with him my whole life and he has been there when I needed him.

I must be there. I have every right to be there."
I could not bring myself to decline. If not him, then who else had the right? I nodded slightly and he let go of me. He then looked at me guiltily.
"I… wouldn't have hit you," he said slowly. He knew the abuse I had to endure before Dem married me. "I just… It was wrong."
"I know you didn't. I would have cut your hands off before they hit my skin," I said, shrugging, but yes, I got a little… frightened. I just was not used to seeing him that way. I could not help but imagine the worst, even if I did not want to think of him in the same level as Draven or Father.
Actually, I did not need to think about it. The thought automatically came to my mind, even when I did not intend to.
"I was going to go to him now anyway," I said. "Will you come with me now?"
"Yeah, of course," he said a little awkwardly. He still looked like he felt guilty. Ruby also gave a nod. She would come as well.
I gave Perita a signal. She was to stay here and make sure no one came to my office. There were guards outside, but I trusted her more.
I took Ruby's hand who held Luc's hand and then, that one feeling came back. I felt a little nauseous, as I felt every time I used teleportation. I never could get used to it.
When we reached the small cottage, I tried to balance my breath so I would not feel too dizzy. Ruby had gasped once again and Luc was muttering something.
"How is it going?"
"I found the poison," Cyan said, who was working with a lot of tubes on the table. There were ancient books, notebooks and ink on the table. He had been working on the poison and the antidote. He had finally managed to separate the poison from the blood and now, he was working on its structure. It was easy to separate the blood and the poison when the quantity was little.
But to properly relieve someone from the poison, he needed to make a real antidote. "However, it is really hard to… understand its structure. How was it made?"
"You cannot do it?" I asked.
"I never said I can't. But I cannot guarantee you when," he said.
"We don't have much time in hand, Cyan," I said. "He is dying, you know it too."
"I don't even care if he lives or not. I am only doing this because it is interesting. I never could make invisible poison," he said. "Or a poison that makes itself invisible from our eyes upon entering the target's body."
"I care if he lives or not, Cyan. If he doesn't, I will maybe make sure you don't have the opportunity to find things interesting anymore," I said sternly.
"… You look a lot like Azure," he said.
"I am his daughter," I replied. "It is bound to happen, no?"
