The Werewolf King's Bride

Chapter 510: His Father's Eyes

(From Evan's Perspective)

I held the boy in my arms, as his mother cleaned herself as much as she could with my shirt. Her legs were shaking. She should not have stood up so quickly, but I could not stop her. Not when she looked at me with those blue eyes full of determination. Her stomach was still big, not as much as before; slightly less.

Dion. Did I truly deserve to name this boy? I watched his face as he yawned. A chuckle escaped my mouth unknowingly.

"What?" Blue asked.

"He is cute," I said.

"I know, right?" she smiled. "He has to be cute. After all, he is my son."

'You are not wrong.'

She then walked up to us with her weak legs. Her steps were slow, but determined. She kissed the boy's lips gently and then all over his face.

I knew I could not have this woman. Even if her husband was not there, I could never have her. She would always choose a life where I was her friend. That line would always be there. It could not be crossed. None of us would ever try it.

She, because she liked me as a friend and not anything more than that, and me, because I did not want to lose her, even if I had to stay as a friend forever.

Then, I would just stay on the sidelines, if that meant staying by her side and seeing her smile, comforting her when she was sad, praising her when she did something great, and just, supporting her.

After that night, I felt very guilty and never called that prostitute again. First of all, it was not fair to Blue and I was just being creepy. And secondly, that woman was no prostitute. I found out she was the daughter of the very Duke of my kingdom and did that merely because she wanted to get pregnant to avoid getting married.

Thankfully, I fed her a pill when she was asleep, as I did with all the other women I slept with. I was the King. There was no way I would take any risk.

I did not recognize her because she was the youngest daughter and had not made her debut yet. Find adventures at My Virtual Library Empire

"Protect him, please. I need to go now," Blue said.

"What exactly are you planning? And why are you talking like that? Does your plan include laying your life down?" I asked. I could not hide the anger in my voice.

"… You never know what can happen. What if I die?" she said and then shook her head. "I will try not to. I don't want to leave my baby boy… Dion alone. I need to be there for him. I will try my best.

Just… protect him for now. Can you do that?"

I looked at her and then at her son and nodded. "I will. I promise."

She smiled and hugged me. I sighed.

I was pathetic.

She dropped her arms and kissed her son once more. It was as if she could not kiss him enough.

She stepped back and stared at her son for a while. Two drops of tears fell from her eyes and she quickly wiped them. When she removed her hands, she was no longer the woman who had cried just a while ago. She was the woman who had given birth just not even forty-five minutes ago, and she was the Queen this kingdom needed.

"Come back," I said.

She gave the barest nod as she disappeared. She was crazy. It was only a matter of time before I could see how far her craziness would take her, now that she no longer had to care for her son's safety. Her son was not in her womb anymore. It meant she could use the power she had to hold back. She could be herself, her true self.

"Your mother is crazy, little one. Your father is crazier. I guess I am the sanest person here," I said.

Newborn babies looked a little weird. But Blue's son was actually cute. Or maybe because it was her son, I found him quite cute.

I held him securely in my arms as I teleported to the cottage. I needed to keep him somewhere safe, however, it seemed the safest place for this child now was in my arms. I was the one who had been there when he was born. I was the one who held him first. It was not his father. When I held him, I knew at that moment that I would do anything for this child, maybe even more than his own father could do.

I let out a sigh of relief as soon as we reached the cottage. If Blue's father knew about this place, he would have come here to lure Blue. However, it looked like the secret was kept well.

"What the hell…?"

It was Blue's twin brother. His mouth was open and a glass bottle had fallen from his hand.

"Is that…?" Doctor Dimitri muttered.

"He needs cleaning up, I suppose," I said.

Hearing the commotion, the mistress of the magic tower emerged from another room. She clapped a hand over her mouth as her eyes found the baby in my arms. Everyone was gawking. Even Calix, Blue's guard, was shaking his head in disbelief.

"The timing…," Doctor Dimitri muttered.

"I don't know how to clean him. Please do it," I said. "The explanation can wait."

Doctor Dimitri took the baby from me. Dion started crying right away, but stopped right after the doctor held him in a strange position.

He washed the baby gently with water and wiped him with a really soft towel. It was crazy how gentle someone had to be with a baby. I had never been more cautious in my entire life.

"What happened?" Lady Ruby asked.

I sat down on a chair and relaxed my legs. "The dark mages attacked. It was at the same time that her pain got worse. We went to the servants' quarters underground. I wanted to come and get Doctor Dimitri, but she said we did not have that much time. Perita went to lead the knights and well, the prince was born at that place."

"Only you were there? No doctor? Or maid?" Lady Ruby asked in disbelief. I shook my head and she threw her hands up in frustration. "Where were the maids? You should have taken at least one of them.

They know what to do."

"Blue did not want to. She feared any of them might want to harm her. I would be there, but you cannot save two people at once. What if one maid drove a knife through the child?" I said. It was something Blue had told me for weeks when I suggested she kept a maid close. She said she could not trust them.

She had a feeling the people around her wanted her dead, and her child as well.

"How did she…?" she muttered.

"I don't know either. It just happened," I said. I still could not believe I actually grabbed the child. It was an instinct. I had not known what to do, but my instinct did.

"Where is she?" Cyan asked.

"She left," I said. "She is a Queen. She cannot ignore her duties."

"What do you mean?" Lady Ruby barked. "She literally just gave birth. Don't tell me she went that way, right after…"

"She did," I nodded. "She told me to bring Prince Dion to King Demetrius and left."

The mistress of the magic tower adored Blue. She had been Blue's personal maid at first, before marrying the master of the magic tower. She loved her Queen and always respected her. She would have yelled at me more if it was not for the newborn who cried every time someone raised their voice. For the sake of the child, she kept quiet and held the baby in her arms as she sat in one corner of the room.

"Maybe you should at least help her, King Ford," she said silently as she cradled the baby in her arms. "We cannot leave her alone. Luc is there. But he doesn't know… all of this."

"I promised her I will stay with her son," I said. "I cannot leave the baby alone here. What if her father finds this place? I promised her I will save her son. I have to keep my word."

She sighed. "His name is Dion, isn't it?" she asked.

"Yes. Dion it is," I said.

"He has His Highness's eyes," she murmured.

"He opened his eyes?" I asked in surprise and went straight to him. He had opened his small eyes. And yes, he did have the King's black eyes. A part of me wished he would have Blue's beautiful blue eyes. I wished he would look like Blue for the most part, but in the end, he got two prominent parts of his father.

I could feel the way King Demetrius would have looked at his son and his wife, knowing he was the one who had Blue as his wife and had a son with her. No man would be happier than seeing the love of his life having a child with him who looked just like him. It was a feeling full of arrogance and domination, but I craved it nonetheless and could not help but feel a pang of jealousy.
