Chapter 5: Origin of the disaster
Cris leaned back in his chair, finishing the last bite of his meal. The taste was nothing special, but after going so long without food, it felt like a feast.
As he set the plate down, he turned his gaze to the AI hologram standing before him.
"Trixie, right? Can you tell me more about this world? I only know bits and pieces from the memories I inherited."
The AI blinked, her eyes glowing faintly. "Of course, Master. This world is called Neo. The current date is 2,3,4392.
Over the centuries, advanced technology reshaped civilization. However, a mysterious event changed everything."
Cris furrowed his brows. "What kind of event?"
Trixie's expression remained neutral. "A meteor impact. Several meteors struck Neo, each carrying unknown properties that disrupted the balance of the world.
Chaos followed. Societies collapsed, and many areas became uninhabitable."
Cris exhaled sharply. "A meteor... That explains why everything seems abandoned. Do you know anything more about it?"
Trixie hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. "I lack comprehensive data.
I was created within this shelter and do not have access to external information beyond my designated functions."
Cris sighed, rubbing his temples. "So basically, I'm on my own in figuring this all out. Great. What am I supposed to do now?"
Trixie's holographic form flickered slightly as she responded. "You can rebuild this place into a new shelter. I will assist you in managing resources, construction, and security."
A notification suddenly appeared before Cris, glowing in front of his vision.
[New Quest: Restore the Shelter - Step 1] [Objective: Go to the supply room and eliminate the unknown entity inside.] [Reward: Basic construction tools and more blueprint access.]
Cris stared at the message, his stomach twisting at the mention of an 'unknown entity.'
"Eliminate? Wait, what do you mean by 'unknown entity'?"
Trixie tilted her head. "The shelter detected an anomaly in the supply room. It is unclear whether it is a malfunctioning drone, an animal, or something else. Proceed with caution."
Cris let out a deep breath. "Of course, it can't just be easy. Alright, guide me there, Trixie."
The AI nodded. "Understood. Initiating navigation. Follow me, Master."
With that, Trixie's form moved ahead, leading Cris through the dimly lit corridors of the shelter. His grip tightened as he prepared for whatever was waiting for him behind that door.
