This Danzo Is Weird!

Chapter 104: 104. Victory After Victory

As the treaties signed between the Hidden Mist, Hidden Sand, and the Hidden Leaf gradually took effect, the tense situation along the borders of the Land of Fire quickly dissipated. The Hidden Leaf, at long last, welcomed peace.

Although everyone understood that this peace would ultimately be short-lived, the Hidden Leaf, having been mired in the quagmire of war for so many years, cherished this moment dearly.

Thus, when the villagers learned that the troops who had fought against the Hidden Sand and Hidden Mist would be returning home today, the streets were immediately lined with people.

That's right, although Danzo had left the frontlines early, he ultimately waited to reunite with Minato and Fugaku before slowly making his way back to the village. His excuse to Hiruzen Sarutobi was that he had sprained his ankle and couldn't travel quickly.

Hiruzen was extremely annoyed by Danzo's flimsy lie, but there was little he could do. After all, he couldn't just send ANBU to drag Danzo back, could he? That would be a huge embarrassment for the Leaf's leadership and tantamount to openly declaring war on Danzo. This was not something Hiruzen, as Hokage, wanted to see.

To put it simply, if the Leaf needed Hiruzen as the Hokage to play the role of the sun, then Danzo, as the leader of the Root, had to play the role of the shadow. Hiruzen was the tree growing above ground, while Danzo was the roots buried deep beneath. Without Danzo handling the dirty work, Hiruzen's position would not be so secure.

As for replacing Danzo with Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado? Ha. They were fine as advisors, offering suggestions and slacking off, but if they were to take charge of the Root, the entire Leaf would likely be infiltrated and turned into a sieve.

In short, given the current situation, Danzo, the "Darkness of the Shinobi," was irreplaceable. So, what Hiruzen was most worried about now was what would happen if this root buried deep underground decided to grow toward the surface and bask in the sunlight? Hiruzen wanted to do everything in his power to prevent this. He didn't want to lose his position as Hokage, nor did he want to lose Danzo, his old friend.

As he pondered this, a series of dark figures finally appeared at the village gates. It was the triumphant border defense forces! Having merged with the troops from the Land of Rain and the southern part of the Land of Fire, this group numbered around a thousand strong. The other shinobi remained stationed at the border to prevent any unexpected incidents.

At the forefront of the troops was none other than the greatest contributor to these three battles, the Hokage's advisor, the elder of the Leaf—Danzo Shimura, the "Darkness of the Shinobi"!

To his left was the rising supernova of this campaign—Minato Namikaze, the "Yellow Flash."

Next to him was Danzo's top disciple—Shisui Uchiha, the "Body Flicker."

To Danzo's right was the Uchiha clan leader, who had also made significant contributions in this campaign—Fugaku Uchiha, the "Wicked Eye."

To Fugaku's right was the branch family leader of the Hyuga clan—Hizashi Hyuga.

In addition, there were other standout shinobi like Kakashi and the father-son duo of Might Duy and Might Guy, as well as a number of well-known prisoners from enemy villages that Danzo had carefully selected.

Their appearance sent the entire Leaf into a frenzy. Villagers lined both sides of the streets, standing on rooftops and even climbing onto lampposts. They cheered, roared, and celebrated the Leaf's hard-won victory!

Amidst this sea of excitement, Danzo led the troops along the central street of the Hidden Leaf Village, finally arriving at the Hokage Building located on the central axis.

There, Hiruzen Sarutobi, dressed in his Hokage robes and wearing the Hokage hat, stood solemnly, awaiting the triumphant return of the troops. Behind him was the massive Hokage Monument, each face representing the glorious history of the Leaf, the hardships and indomitable will of the village's predecessors.

In this atmosphere, the villagers couldn't help but feel a deep sense of reverence.

Then, under the watchful eyes of all the villagers and the Hokage Monument, Danzo, standing at the front of the procession, raised his arm high. In the sunlight, he spoke each word with clarity and force:

"Everyone, we have won!"

These seven short words carried more weight than a thousand speeches. The pride and glory of the village erupted in the hearts of all the villagers at that moment.

"Long live Lord Danzo!"

"Long live the Hokage!"

"Long live Konoha!"

In an instant, Konoha was once again engulfed in a sea of madness. Countless people surged onto the streets, lifting the heroes of the Leaf high into the air!

—————

After the wild celebrations, the Hokage delivered an important speech regarding the campaign.

First, the Hokage acknowledged the performance of all the shinobi. He believed that during this war, the Leaf shinobi had embodied the Will of Fire, fighting with the spirit of burning themselves to illuminate the Leaf, and had ultimately achieved victory.

Second, the Hokage commended and encouraged individuals who had performed exceptionally well during the war, particularly the new generation of shinobi like Minato Namikaze, Hizashi Hyuga, and Fugaku Uchiha, calling on all villagers to learn from these young heroes.

Finally, the Hokage provided a detailed summary of the campaign, urging all villagers and shinobi to continue striving, to learn, embody, and spread the Will of Fire, and to contribute to the growth and development of the Leaf.

At the very end, the villagers erupted into enthusiastic applause, and Hiruzen Sarutobi smiled with satisfaction.

As for Danzo? He had used the Body Flicker Technique to leave just a second before Hiruzen began his long speech. He was now sitting in the Hokage's office, sipping tea.

Looking out the window at the excited crowd, Danzo's eyes showed a slight change.

"Come to think of it, this is the first time I've returned to Konoha since I transmigrated," Danzo mused.

"Is this the number one shinobi village in the world?" Danzo smacked his lips.

Glancing at the clock, Hiruzen and the others should be returning soon.

As Danzo expected, once the grand welcome ceremony ended, Hiruzen returned to the "Board of Directors" with his two advisors.

"You did a great job this time, Danzo," Hiruzen said as he entered, removing his Hokage hat and placing it gently on the table. He then took out his pipe, sat in the Hokage's seat, and looked at his old friend, whom he hadn't seen in a long time.

Danzo leaned casually on the sofa, leaning on his cane, not even glancing at the hat on the table that symbolized the position of Hokage.

Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado, the two advisors, also sat on either side, scrutinizing Danzo.

"You probably have a lot of questions, so ask away," Danzo said. "I have a lot of things to do and don't want to waste time here."

This straightforward statement was very much in line with Danzo's usual demeanor.

So Homura Mitokado didn't hold back either, staring at Danzo and asking, "Danzo, how did you get the Mangekyo Sharingan?"

This was something they were all curious about. After all, no one understood the power of the Mangekyo better than these second-generation disciples. If it weren't for this terrifying and twisted power, the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, wouldn't have been so wary of the Uchiha.

Unfortunately, Danzo's answer remained the same: "It was entrusted to me by Kagami before his death."

"If Kagami really gave it to you, how come we didn't know about it?" Homura Mitokado clearly didn't believe this explanation.

Not only him, but Hiruzen and Koharu also didn't believe it. But what did it matter to Danzo whether they believed him or not? Kagami's death was so long ago that no matter how much they doubted, they couldn't find any evidence to verify it. Moreover, Kagami had died on the battlefield, and his body hadn't been brought back, so even if they wanted to investigate, they had no way to do so. Unless they used the Reanimation Jutsu to bring Kagami back and ask him directly. But that was clearly unrealistic. None of them had the qualifications to become necromancers.

Thus, in response to Homura's questioning, Danzo simply sneered.

"I've already given you the truth. Whether you believe it or not is up to you."

Seeing Danzo's unyielding attitude, Homura had no choice but to drop the matter.

However, Koharu suddenly spoke up: "Even if these eyes were left by Kagami, he was still a member of the Uchiha clan. If you want to continue using these eyes, shouldn't you discuss it with the Uchiha clan?"

Just like Kakashi. Although Obito Uchiha had willingly given his Sharingan to Kakashi, the Uchiha clan might not be willing to let their bloodline limit fall into the hands of an outsider. Even now, the Uchiha clan was still debating whether to take back Kakashi's Sharingan.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to Fugaku about it," Danzo replied indifferently.

To be honest, he wasn't worried about this issue. His relationship with Fugaku was different now. In the past, they had been adversaries, but now, Fugaku was eager for Danzo to become Hokage. That way, Shisui would be the Hokage's disciple, and there might even be a chance for a Uchiha to become Hokage in the future. Given this mutual interest, even if there were voices within the Uchiha clan opposing this, Fugaku would likely suppress them immediately.

Seeing Danzo's calm and indifferent attitude, Homura grew even angrier.

"What about your disciple? Why did you take in a member of the Uchiha clan as your disciple without consulting us?"

He fired off a rapid series of questions.

Danzo frowned and retorted, "Taking in a disciple is my business. Why should I need your approval?"

Danzo's counterquestion left Homura momentarily speechless, but he quickly shot back, "You have the right to take in disciples, but you chose a child from the Uchiha clan!"

He continued, gesticulating wildly, "Didn't you say that we should carry on our teacher's will and completely eliminate the Uchiha threat?"

Homura was actually quite aggrieved. After all, Danzo had always been the staunchest hawk when it came to the Uchiha, wanting to wipe out the "evil" Uchiha clan entirely. Homura and Koharu had always stood by Danzo on this issue, even opposing Hiruzen at times. But now, Danzo, the flagbearer of the anti-Uchiha faction, had suddenly switched sides, even taking in a Uchiha prodigy as his disciple. Who could accept this?

To this, Danzo simply chuckled.

"What our teacher and I wanted to do was eliminate the Uchiha threat, not eliminate the Uchiha clan! If we can integrate the Uchiha into the village and make them a force for the Leaf, then why should we oppose them?"

Danzo's words made the other three frown, especially Hiruzen. Although he had always played the role of the moderate when it came to the Uchiha, now that Danzo was no longer opposing them, he was worried that the Uchiha's influence might grow unchecked.

However, as Hokage, he couldn't openly express such concerns. Fortunately, he still had a pawn to do that for him.

"Danzo! Have you forgotten what our teacher said? The Uchiha are an inherently evil clan. They can never be integrated into Konoha!" Homura continued to argue.

Danzo shook his head.

"That statement is too absolute. Our teacher also said that Kagami was an excellent Uchiha shinobi who embodied the Will of Fire."

Homura seemed to have found a flaw in Danzo's argument and immediately pressed, "You're right, but Kagami was one of a kind. He's dead now!"

Facing Homura's aggressive questioning, Danzo still shook his head.

"I used to think the same way, until I discovered Shisui. He's Kagami's grandson, and he has the same great potential as Kagami."

"How can you prove that?" Homura still refused to let go.

But Danzo had no intention of continuing this argument. He fixed Homura with a cold stare and said, "I don't need to prove anything, and neither does my disciple. I believe that under Shisui's leadership, the Uchiha clan will fully integrate into the village. If you have any objections, you can go to the Naka Shrine and discuss it with Fugaku in person! But let me remind you of one thing—both Fugaku and Shisui have awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan."

This last sentence froze Homura's expression on the spot. Although he and Koharu had been praised in their youth as having "Kage-level strength comparable to the Hokage," over time, they had become engrossed in political affairs and neglected their training. Now, they were at best elite jonin. Facing two Mangekyo users with that level of strength? That was practically suicide.

Thus, Homura could only let out a cold snort.

Koharu, on the other hand, furrowed her brows deeply.

"If what you say is true, then we need to be even more cautious of the Uchiha. After all, that's two Mangekyo Sharingan."

Hearing this, a look of apprehension also appeared on Hiruzen's face.

"Danzo, what exactly are you thinking?" Hiruzen asked.

In response, Danzo simply said, "Not all Uchiha are Madara Uchiha, and not all Mangekyo possess his level of power. If the mighty Leaf is so intimidated by two Mangekyo, then we might as well hand over the title of the number one shinobi village to the Hidden Cloud."
