This Danzo Is Weird!

Chapter 53: 53. Fugaku’s Unexpected Gift

In the world of shinobi, the title of "disciple" was far more than just a label—it was a form of inheritance.

This inheritance encompassed ideals, beliefs, status, and power.

Otherwise, how else could all four of Tobirama Senju's disciples have risen to become Konoha's Elders and Advisors?

If Shisui were to truly become Danzo's disciple, this direct master-student bond could very well allow him to represent the Uchiha clan in Konoha's core leadership in the future.

After all, as a Hokage Advisor, Danzo had never taken on a single disciple until now…

Fugaku suppressed the excitement in his heart and pledged to Danzo:

"Lord Danzo, rest assured—Shisui will never disappoint you!"

Danzo shook his head and countered, "Only Shisui?"

Fugaku suddenly realized what Danzo meant and hurriedly nodded.

"Of course! The Uchiha clan will not disappoint you either!"

Only then did Danzo reveal a satisfied expression.

"Then I can rest easy."

The moment Fugaku left, Danzo could no longer suppress the broad grin spreading across his face.

At that very moment, a system notification echoed in his ears:

"[Detected Uchiha Fugaku's gratitude, Skill Point +1.]"

"[Acquired Skill Pack: Mangekyō Sharingan (S-) x1.]"

Fugaku… had just gifted him a grand treasure!

Danzo slowly pulled away the bandages covering his right eye.

His once dull and lifeless pupil suddenly flared red, as three black tomoe began to swirl rapidly, like fish swimming in a whirlpool.

As their speed increased, the tomoe began to merge, forming an intricate pattern—

A complex three-bladed shape, filling his entire iris.

Only the very center of his pupil remained dark.

Feeling the immense surge of ocular power from his right eye, Danzo could barely contain his excitement.

"So this is the power of the Mangekyō Sharingan…?"

Danzo gently touched his eye, experiencing—for the first time—the true might of the Uchiha Clan.

Compared to the three-tomoe Sharingan, the Mangekyō wasn't just a step up—it was an outright transformation!

Danzo was confident that, with this eye alone, he could easily overwhelm nearly all three-tomoe Sharingan users.

This even made him recall that legendary battle in the original timeline—Sasuke vs. Itachi.

"Just how much did Itachi hold back to let Sasuke think he stood a chance?"

But no matter.

This "gift" from Fugaku had left Danzo more than satisfied.

After all, his next step was to negotiate a ceasefire with the Mizukage.

And the current Mizukage—Yagura Karatachi—was the Three-Tails Jinchūriki.

Since the Mangekyō Sharingan was incredibly effective against Tailed Beasts, this power boost couldn't have come at a better time.

Coupled with his Wood Release abilities, Danzo now felt far more confident in dealing with any unexpected developments during the negotiations.

The only regret was that he didn't seem to have gained any unique Mangekyō abilities.

"Is it because the system only granted a 'basic' version? Or do I need to meet specific conditions to awaken the eye's true power?"

Danzo pondered the possibility.

Still, even without a signature ability, the sheer enhancement in visual prowess was already a tremendous advantage.

But what truly surprised him was Fugaku himself.

"So he had awakened the Mangekyō this early?!"

No wonder both Sarutobi and I once saw the Uchiha as a serious threat to Konoha's stability…

But things were different now.

Danzo was no longer the cold-blooded schemer obsessed with Uchiha's destruction.

He was now a "benevolent leader", determined to save Konoha from its path of self-destruction.

If the Uchiha were to fall, it would be on the battlefield—not from the betrayal of their own village.

At Sea, North of the Land of Water

Two battered transport ships, barely escaping their doom, finally caught sight of the horizon.

By now, both ships were scarred and worn, held together only by the various reinforcement jutsu the onboard shinobi had used to prevent them from falling apart mid-voyage.

"We finally made it back..."

Sitting on the edge of the ship, Biwa Jūzō stared ahead, his eyes blank and unfocused.

Before that damn shadow of the shinobi world arrived on the battlefield, the once invincible Kirigakure forces never imagined they'd see a day like this.

To Kirigakure, between the cunning and ruthless Danzo and the cold, eerie Orochimaru, they would have preferred dealing with the latter.

Before the ships could even enter the harbor, masked Kirigakure ANBU had already appeared on the waters ahead.

At the same time, thick mist began rising from the surrounding sea, creeping in like a massive maw slowly swallowing the two ships whole.

This was Kirigakure's unique inspection protocol for incoming ships.

If the vessel belonged to an ally, it would be allowed entry after inspection.

If it carried enemies, it would be silenced within the mist.

But in their defeated and terrified state, the returning remnants of the Mist forces were already on edge.

The sudden inspection sent panic through the crowded decks, escalating into a small commotion.

That was, until Mei Terumi and Ao stepped forward—bringing the chaos to an immediate halt.

After all, during their desperate retreat, Mei Terumi had proven her authority—with both her power and the lives of those who opposed her.

Accompanied by Ao, Mei walked straight to the ship's bow, glaring into the mist at the dark silhouettes beyond.

"We are the forces retreating from the Land of Fire. I am Commander Mei Terumi. I have urgent matters to report to the Mizukage."

Her voice was icy cold.

The disastrous failure of this retreat had already shattered her mood, and the reckless incompetence of certain shinobi had only pushed her patience to the limit.

After confirming Mei Terumi's identity, the Kirigakure ANBU finally granted her passage.

However, they only allowed her alone to proceed.

Everyone else—along with the two transport ships—was subject to further inspection, to ensure that no Konoha spies had infiltrated Kirigakure under the guise of the retreating forces.

Mei didn't care in the slightest.

At this moment, her only priority was meeting the Mizukage and discussing what to do next.

---

Inside Kirigakure

The mist-shrouded village was eerily silent.

Perhaps because of the ongoing war, the streets were deserted, giving the village an almost lifeless atmosphere.

When Mei finally arrived at the Mizukage's office, she was immediately met with a far heavier atmosphere.

"Lord Mizukage. Elder Genji."

Mei's voice softened slightly as she addressed the two figures seated before her.

The Fourth Mizukage, Yagura Karatachi, sat at his desk, his short, pale-green hair framing an innocent, doll-like face.

At first glance, he looked almost harmless.

Seated beside him was a stark contrast—the aged, battle-worn Elder Genji, a relic from the First Shinobi World War.

With his white hair and withered frame, he looked as if he was already one foot in the grave.

"It's you, Mei Terumi. Take a seat."

Elder Genji's voice was hoarse and weary.

"Yagura and I have already been briefed on the situation. From now on, you will assist Yagura in handling peace negotiations with Konoha."

"Negotiations...?"

Mei's eyes flickered with mixed emotions.

After a moment of contemplation, she nodded.

"Understood."
