This Danzo Is Weird!

Chapter 55: 55. Victory is Won, Not Negotiated

"Lord Danzo, are you sure about this?"

At the port controlled by Konoha, Minato Namikaze stood with a face full of concern as he looked at Danzo Shimura.

Danzo was holding a piece of paper, which was rapidly being consumed by flames.

From the half-burnt remains, one could still make out the characters for "Transfer Order".

That's right—this was the emergency order just delivered by an Anbu ninja, officially transferring Danzo from the Southern Front to the Western Front.

It wasn't just Minato who was stunned—even the Anbu who had brought the order was completely bewildered.

However, given Danzo's infamous reputation within the village, the Anbu found himself too afraid to speak up immediately.

Danzo didn't answer Minato right away. Instead, he turned his gaze to the Anbu ninja.

"If I'm not mistaken, your name is Kuroda, correct?"

As one of Konoha's Hokage Advisors, Danzo knew every Anbu operative by name.

Just from the mask and codename, he had already deduced Kuroda's true identity.

The Anbu's eyes flashed with fear, but he quickly nodded in confirmation.

Danzo stared at him for a moment before speaking in a calm yet chilling tone:

"So, Anbu Kuroda, tell me… will you be resting here for a few days, or will you be returning to the village immediately to report back to the Hokage?"

Danzo's voice was calm, but in Kuroda's ears, it sounded like the whisper of a demon.

He was almost certain that if he chose to return to the village and report Danzo's insubordination, he would be dead before he even got back.

No—even before reaching Konoha, he would likely "meet with an accident" along the way…

But if he chose to stay, then as an Anbu ninja, he had no excuse for failing to deliver the Hokage's direct orders.

As Kuroda struggled internally, Danzo spoke again.

"Of course, there's another option.

Perhaps, while on your way here, you were attacked by Kirigakure forces, and the orders were lost or destroyed in the chaos."

As he spoke, Danzo crushed the last of the ashes in his hand, his meaning unmistakably clear.

Even if Kuroda were an idiot, he would understand what Danzo was implying now.

Now that he had received Danzo's assurance, Kuroda immediately bowed and declared:

"Understood, Lord Danzo. I was attacked by Kirigakure forces along the way, and the orders were accidentally lost."

Hearing this, Danzo nodded in satisfaction and patted Kuroda's shoulder.

"Good. You've had a rough time. Get some rest.

As for Kirigakure, I will personally avenge you!"

"Yes, Lord Danzo!"

At this point, Kuroda had no other choice but to follow Danzo's lead and leave to "rest."

However, as soon as Kuroda left, Danzo immediately ordered Fugaku Uchiha to use genjutsu to control him, preventing him from having any second thoughts.

As Fugaku left, he cast a glance at Danzo, a newfound sense of respect in his eyes.

"So this is the power of an old-guard hawk?

Even the Hokage's direct orders can simply be ignored?"

With everything now settled, Danzo finally turned back to Minato, who could only offer him a bitter smile.

Danzo knew that Minato Namikaze was a ninja with a strong sense of morality. Loyalty to the Hokage and the village had always been one of his guiding principles.

If it weren't for everything Danzo had done recently, which had gradually changed Minato's perspective, he would have already stood up to oppose him.

"Minato, are you trying to say that I should obey Hiruzen's orders and negotiate unconditionally with Kirigakure?"

Minato shook his head. "Although I don't fully agree with the Hokage's decision, outright ignoring his orders like this… it doesn't seem right."

Danzo let out a contemptuous laugh.

"Let me tell you something, Minato—the higher-ups of Konoha are all fools!"

The moment he said this, Danzo noticed Minato looking at him with a rather peculiar expression.

Feeling a little awkward, Danzo coughed and added, "Except for me, of course."

But almost immediately, Danzo's expression turned cold and ruthless again.

Staring at Minato, he spoke in a harsh and unyielding tone.

"This may sound cruel, but everyone has value, including those who have died in this war."

"If we fail to extract enough benefits from our enemies, then their sacrifices will be meaningless!"

Danzo's words carried a weight of absolute conviction, successfully forcing Minato into deep thought once again.

"Think about it—if Kirigakure can attack us without consequences, what happens next time?"

"The next time they have internal strife or face international turmoil, won't they simply choose to attack Konoha again? After all, if they lose, they won't suffer any serious repercussions!"

At this point, Danzo slammed the table hard, his voice filled with anger and disdain.

"That's why I say—Hiruzen Sarutobi and the others are aiding the enemy! They are appeasing them! They are nurturing and funding Konoha's future enemies!"

"I acknowledge that this war has cost Konoha dearly, and many people want it to end as soon as possible—to negotiate peace and put an end to the conflict."

"But this kind of compromise is cowardly! It's weak!"

"Now, more than ever, we must be tougher! We must cripple our enemies as much as possible! Otherwise, the sacrifices of our fallen comrades will be in vain!"

"If we don't bleed now, then it will be our children and our descendants who will bleed in the future!"

"The more we fight now, the less our future generations will have to suffer!"

"Victory is won through battle—not through negotiations!"

Hearing these words, the young Minato was completely stunned.

In truth, anyone who thought deeply about the situation could understand this logic.

But the risk was simply too great.

After so many years of war, everyone was exhausted. Deep down, they just wanted peace.

And that had led to this ridiculous situation—even after winning the battle, they were too afraid to demand too much from the enemy, worried that pushing them too hard would trigger another war...

But for Danzo, that logic simply did not apply.

"We've already paid such a heavy price, suffered so many losses, and fought so hard to win this war…

And now you're telling me that we shouldn't demand territory, reparations, or even keep the prisoners and spoils of war?

Are you kidding me?!

Wouldn't that mean all this fighting was for nothing?!"

"No way. If we're going to fight, we fight until we achieve complete victory!

An incomplete victory is just another form of defeat!"

Danzo's passionate and unwavering speech finally won Minato over.

"I understand now, Lord Danzo."

For the first time, there was a different kind of light in Minato's eyes.

Just as their discussion ended, Hizashi Hyuga arrived with urgent news from Kirigakure.

"Lord Danzo, Kirigakure has sent envoys with a message.

They are inviting you to a meeting tomorrow at noon—to take place on an island in the sea between the Land of Fire and the Land of Water."
