Chapter 8: A Night to Remember
After their strong comeback against U.E. Sant Andreu, the mood in CF Igualada's locker room was electric. Laughter, jokes, and celebrations filled the air, but for Daniel, there was something else on his mind.
Sofia.
They had been getting closer—training together, studying at Academia Igualada, and now, grabbing coffee after matches. But Daniel still hadn't made a move.
That was about to change.
Later that evening, as he scrolled through his phone, a message popped up from Miguel.
Miguel: "Party at my place tomorrow night. Bring whoever. We deserve this."
Daniel smirked. A party wasn't really his thing, but then he saw another message come in.
Sofia: "You're going, right? It'll be fun."
Daniel hesitated for a second before typing:
"Yeah, I'll be there."
The Party
Miguel's house was packed. Music blasted through the speakers, and people from school and CF Igualada were scattered around, laughing, dancing, and enjoying the night.
Daniel arrived with Luis, immediately spotting Miguel in the crowd.
"Daniel! The goal machine!" Miguel shouted, pulling him into a hug. "Come on, grab a drink. We're celebrating!"
Daniel laughed, but his eyes were already searching for someone else.
Then, he saw her.
Sofia was by the balcony, wearing a simple white dress, her hair falling naturally over her shoulders. She looked effortlessly beautiful.
He took a deep breath and walked over.
"You made it," Sofia said, smiling.
"You said it would be fun," Daniel replied. "So far, you're not wrong."
She laughed, and they leaned against the railing, looking out at the lights of Igualada.
A Moment
They talked for a while—about football, school, even their dreams. Daniel told her about his struggles balancing everything, and she opened up about her own challenges after being promoted.
Then, there was silence. Not the awkward kind, but the kind that meant something.
Daniel glanced at her. "So, I was thinking... we should do this again. Just us."
Sofia raised an eyebrow. "Are you asking me out, Carter?"
Daniel chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "Maybe I am."
Sofia smiled. "Then maybe I'll say yes."
The Shadows Still Linger
The night continued, but as Daniel walked home, his happiness was short-lived.
That strange feeling returned.
Someone was watching him.
He turned around, scanning the empty street. Nothing. But he knew better.
The past wasn't done with him yet.
