...

"A normal girl? I never believed that the famous Konjiki no Yami, famous for being ruthless and unfeeling, would become an ordinary girl" - Mikado said.

"I also couldn't have imagined that the most famous doctor in the entire galaxy would end up fleeing and taking refuge on a planet as primitive as Earth and that she would end up being a school nurse" - Yami said.

"Touché" – Mikado said.

"Tou... what?" – Yami said confused.

"It doesn't matter. I just want to say you're right. I never imagined I'd end up in this situation, but here I am. Wanting to help people in need and annoy those filthy nobles, I ended up running away and taking refuge here... Life takes many turns—you know that better than anyone" - Mikado sighed.

"Yes, I know. And don't worry, those nobles deserved the treatment you gave them. Most of them are disgusting and see women as nothing more than collector's items" - Yami said.

There were few things in life she hated, and perverts were definitely among them.

"Yes, you might be right" - Mikado nodded.

Those filthy nobles had oppressed her entire race while they lived in luxury, drowning in lust. They were simply disgusting and unworthy of respect. That's why, when she became a doctor with a name known across the galaxy, she decided she would only charge the nobles.

"Anyway, what made you change your mind? I mean, you also left your old life behind to become a normal girl here" - Mikado asked.

"Are you up to date on the latest galactic news?" – Yami asked.

"I have contacts who keep me informed about what's happening in the galaxy, so yes, I'm fairly well updated" - Mikado nodded.

"Then you must know that Princess Lala found a fiancé, and that her fiancé is a human" - Yami said.

"Sato Akira, a second-year student at this school. Yes, I know. I also know that Lala-sama transferred here just a few days ago" - Mikado nodded again.

Naturally, she was aware of everything and had recognized Lala the moment she saw her.

"I... I was hired by a filthy noble to kill Akira" - Yami said.

"Oh, I see. So what happened? Did you have a change of heart?" - Mikado asked.

"I tried to kill him, but... he defeated me" - Yami replied.

Hearing that, Mikado was stunned. Akira had defeated Konjiki no Yami? The famous assassin known for completing every mission? One of the most powerful beings in the galaxy?

"How did he manage to do that?" - Mikado asked, intrigued.

"He has... a strange device that allows him to transform into different monsters with unusual powers. He beat me using one of them" - Yami explained.

"What? A device that allows him to transform into monsters with special abilities? That kind of technology is far beyond human capability. In fact... no one in the galaxy has been able to develop something like that—not even Tearju. Are you sure about this?" - Mikado asked, even more intrigued.

"I'm completely sure. Besides me, he also defeated Kurt the Silent" - Yami nodded.

"Kurt the Silent? It seems those nobles are starting to act quickly... Still, you haven't told me why you decided to stop being an assassin" - Mikado said.

While Akira's mysterious device certainly caught her attention, there were more pressing things she wanted to understand. Of course, she was curious and wanted Akira to show it to her somehow. But how could she ask him if they didn't even know each other? Easy: one day, she could summon him to the infirmary, and after being honest with him, he might show her. After all, who could turn her down with a body like hers? Until now, all men had tried to possess her—without success—because Mikado was still a virgin, and would remain so until she found the right man. Was time running out just because she was older? Hardly. Mikado belonged to an extremely long-lived race, and her physical aging stopped at 35. On her home planet, she would still be considered very young.

"Akira defeated me, but he didn't kill me. Instead, he offered me a chance to leave the life I was leading. He said I deserved to live a normal life… and I... I accepted" - Yami explained.

"What? He convinced you with just a few simple words? I don't mean to sound rude, but Akira-kun probably isn't the first man who's tried to persuade you like that. So… why did you listen to him?" - Mikado asked.

"I... I just believed him" – Yami said.

There were other reasons, but... It was not the time or place to say them.

"I see... even so, you know that, as a former assassin, you still have to pay for your crimes" – Mikado said.

"I'm aware of it" – Yami nodded.

"Then you should know that Akira-kun said you could live like a normal girl, even knowing you'd have to pay for your crimes. That can only mean one thing. You realize that, right?" – Mikado said.

"I know..." – Yami nodded, somewhat embarrassed.

She began to blush.

"You're actually willing to become his concubine. How is it possible that you accepted so easily?" – Mikado asked in disbelief.

She just couldn't understand it. How could Yami agree to become Akira's concubine? According to what she'd heard, Yami had only known him for a few days, and yet—after being defeated—she simply accepted his proposal, knowing what it meant? Just thinking about it gave her a headache.

"This... I..." – Yami tried to say.

What could she say? She had accepted for a reason she herself didn't fully understand. But she had accepted it, sealing her fate then and there.

"Anyway... I suppose you have your reasons, so I won't press further. Now tell me—why did you come here? I mean, I don't think you came just to see me. Right?" – Mikado said.

Trying to understand why Yami agreed would get them nowhere. Everyone has their own reasons and secrets, and perhaps Yami didn't want to reveal hers. Pressuring her wouldn't help, so Mikado decided to leave that topic aside and ask why she was really there.

"Actually, I... I'd like to ask you something important" – Yami said.

"…Then tell me. What's going on with you?" – Mikado asked.

"For the past few days... I've been feeling strange. Really strange" – Yami admitted.

"Strange? You might be sick, but let's not jump to conclusions. Tell me your symptoms" – Mikado said.

Apparently, Yami had come to see her simply as the school nurse because she hadn't been feeling well.

"My symptoms are..." – Yami began.

And then she explained everything she'd been feeling over the past few days.

"I can't believe it" – Mikado said once she had finished.

"Is something wrong with me?" – Yami asked.

"No... you're not even sick" – Mikado replied.

"Then... what's happening to me? Why do I feel like this? Why does my heart beat so fast and I blush whenever I'm near Akira? Am I allergic to him or something?" - she asked, genuinely confused.

Well, for starters, she believed she couldn't get sick—she had never fallen ill before—but she hadn't thought much about that. She'd been too preoccupied and confused by her feelings lately.

{Note: I'm not sure whether she can get sick or not. I checked wikis and even asked ChatGPT without a clear answer, so for now, I'll leave it uncertain.}

"Allergic to a person? Do you really think it's possible to be allergic to someone specifically?" – Mikado asked.

"I don't know, I'm not a doctor" – Yami said.

"Technically you're right, but you don't have to be a doctor to know what's wrong with you" - Mikado said.

"What's wrong with me?" – Yami asked.

Yami seemed desperate to understand what was happening to her, which surprised Mikado. Where was the famous Konjiki no Yami? Right now, all she saw was an ordinary girl who didn't even understand her own feelings. Was this really the same former assassin whose name once made thousands of powerful beings across the galaxy tremble? Where was the fearsome part? In front of her, she saw only a teenage girl asking for advice. What exactly had Akira done to change Yami so much?

"You're in love. It's as simple as that" - Mikado said.

Hearing those words, Yami was stunned. She, in love?

"You look surprised. Didn't you realize it yourself?" - Mikado asked.

"I… I've never felt like this before, so I didn't know what these feelings were" - Yami admitted.

Although a part of her had slightly suspected that what she felt for Akira might be love, she had quickly dismissed the idea. After all, she had never fallen in love. In fact, she had been known for her complete lack of emotion—a cold, ruthless killer devoid of mercy or compassion. That was how the galaxy saw her. That was how she saw herself.

"I see… I suppose that's normal, considering what I've heard about you: 'A cold and ruthless assassin, a being without emotions who kills without a second thought' -" Mikado said.

Yami was momentarily surprised, but she knew Mikado was right. That was how everyone had seen her.

"I imagine it must be hard. For someone who's never felt anything before, to suddenly have such strong emotions—emotions you've never known and don't know how to handle—it must be overwhelming" - Mikado added.

Yami had never expressed any emotions before. Suddenly being flooded with so many all at once, and in such a short time, left her completely lost.

"What do you recommend I do?" - Yami asked.

"Tell Akira-kun how you feel" - Mikado replied.

Yes, that was certainly the simplest option. But...

"I... I don't think I'm worthy of him... especially after everything I've done. I'd be content just being his concubine... I don't deserve his love" - Yami said.

Now that she had acknowledged her feelings, she was also struck by another realization: she wasn't worthy of Akira's love. She had committed horrible acts—things that would make anyone's blood run cold. How could someone like her, whose hands were stained with the blood of dozens, be worthy of someone like Akira? Someone who had never taken a life. Someone who had shown her kindness when no one else had. Someone who had helped her leave behind the job she had grown to hate. Someone so pure...

"Not worthy of his love? And who exactly are you to decide that?" - Mikado asked, raising an eyebrow.

"But I... I've killed so many people. I don't deserve to be loved by anyone, least of all by him" - Yami said quietly.

"Listen, maybe it's true—you've killed a lot of people. But... everyone deserves a second chance" - Mikado said.

"Even someone like me?" - Yami asked.

"Akira-kun already gave you a second chance. So why are you still hesitating? Why do you still believe you don't deserve to be loved? Tell me something—since you've been with him and the others, has anyone ever shown you disgust or treated you differently?" - Mikado asked.

Yami thought back. Ever since she started interacting with Akira and the rest, no one had ever looked at her with disgust. She had never talked about her past, and no one had ever asked about it. Even Haruna and Yui, who now knew the truth, hadn't changed the way they spoke to her. It was as if... it didn't matter.

"I... it's true. No one has" - Yami said.

"Then stop hesitating. You're free now to live however you want. Do you love Akira-kun? Then tell him. Live the life you want to live, not the one you were forced into" - Mikado said.

Those words struck Yami deeply. Mikado was right. Why let the past weigh her down when it was already behind her? She was free now—just a student, in a simple school, on a simple planet. If she truly loved Akira, then there was no reason to keep suppressing her feelings. It was time to turn the page and live the life she had always longed for deep inside... and leave behind the one that had tormented her for so long.
