Tohka Yatogami's: Marvel Journey

Chapter 18: Departure

"The darkness inside… Reverse Tohka, do you really exist?" Exiting the school, Tohka got back into the car, which slowly started moving away. She touched her chest uncertainly as the thought crossed her mind.

"Miss, are you alright?" At that moment, Hogan finally snapped out of the controlled state he'd been in.

"Damn, I almost forgot to check out which X-Men were there." Hearing Hogan's voice, Tohka suddenly realized that apart from Jean Grey and Professor X, she hadn't seen anyone she recognized.

"Jean, remember this: that girl might become our enemy in the future," Charles said to Jean Grey as he watched the car drive away.

"Why? That girl gave me a good impression," Jean asked in confusion, looking at the professor. Honestly, Tohka seemed like an innocent little girl who didn't know much about the world—someone unlikely to do anything bad.

"Just in case. I truly hope that day never comes." With a sigh, the professor rubbed his aching head. He had once tried to enter Tohka's mind to communicate directly, but within her mental space, a version of Tohka clad in black armor had struck him with a devastating blow.

The attack had left his psyche wounded. Charles couldn't forget the black-armored girl—she looked identical to Tohka but exuded an entirely different aura.

If Tohka resembled a kind angel, the other was like a demon of slaughter.

"Anyway, you need to learn how to wield that power without being consumed by it. You should know that girl has already mastered hers, while you, Jean, still don't dare touch it."

"I understand, Professor." Jean Grey nodded firmly. Tohka's presence had shaken her deeply—it was the first time she had felt a power that could rival her own.

"Good, that's reassuring. As for what the girl said about my old friend… I suppose I should reach out to him. Sometimes that level of intuition can be surprisingly accurate. I'll have to keep an eye on things."

Satisfied with Jean Grey's response, Charles slowly wheeled himself away. Tohka's warning was something he needed to take seriously.

"Forget it, let's go. I'll head to the American West. I've seen a lot of Western cowboy movies in the past."

"Understood, Miss." Hogan found Tohka's request baffling, but he decided to comply obediently. Inwardly, he prayed that his ample frame would be enough to endure whatever Tohka might put him through.

"So, this is the life of the rich, huh? It's really enviable." Sitting on the plane, Tohka quietly gazed at the clouds outside the window. In her previous life, she had never even been on a plane. She hadn't expected her current life to turn out like this… but, oh well, fate had its own plans.

"Forget it. Tony is Tony—there's always something good wherever he is."

"Miss, stop! You're not even old enough to drink legally. Here, have some food instead." Snatching the wine out of Tohka's hand, Hogan immediately placed a steak on the table in front of her.

Ordinarily, he wouldn't have been able to move that quickly, but the moment he snatched the wine from Tohka, he felt a sudden wave of danger. His instincts told him that if he didn't act, both he and the plane would be in trouble.

"..."

Staring blankly at her now-empty hands, Tohka didn't have time to say anything before her attention was drawn to the gourmet meal on the table.

Honestly, Tohka's taste in food matched American cuisine well, but she had a particular fondness for steak. Ever since she came to Tony's house, most meals had shifted to Chinese cuisine.

Seeing the steak, Tohka instantly forgot her earlier annoyance and happily began eating.

"As expected of a young lady—just give her food, and everything's fine." As Tony's driver, Hogan had excellent observational skills. He quickly realized the best way to handle Tohka was to keep her mouth busy with food.

"Hey, stop wasting time and hurry up!"

"Miss, wait for me! No, that's a bar—you can't go in there! Security, stop her, quick!"

As soon as they got off the plane, Tohka began running around, indulging in the local fun. They were now in a state bordering Mexico, an area with a high number of undocumented migrants. When Tohka initially chose this location, Hogan was startled.

He immediately notified Tony, knowing that Tohka's identity was a big deal. He wasn't confident he could ensure her safety in such a place.

To his frustration, Tony simply waved it off and agreed, telling him only to make sure Tohka didn't get scammed. If there was any danger, Tony said to leave it to Tohka, which left Hogan feeling even more exasperated.

He was a grown man, yet he needed to be protected by a young woman. What he didn't know was that Tony himself had been protected by her before.

"Huh? What do you guys want?" Trouble was inevitable wherever you went. Tohka was walking down the street, munching on a few burgers she'd bought, paying no attention to her surroundings. Before she realized it, she had wandered into a deserted area and was quickly surrounded by a group of men.

"Oh no, Miss, get out of here!" Seeing this, Hogan was startled. His worst fear had come true.

Tohka's appearance screamed "naïve rich girl," even though her identity had already been made public. Most larger gangs wouldn't dare provoke her, given Tony's influence and deterrence.

But the problem was with small-time thugs who didn't watch the news. They didn't care who you were—if you looked like you had money, they would strike.

"Ah, what do you want?" Tohka glanced at Hogan, who was standing protectively in front of her, then at the group of thugs surrounding them. Suddenly, she looked as though she had a revelation. "I get it—you're the starter treasure mobs from a novel, aren't you?"

"...."

"Miss, isn't this a bit much? Besides, these guys don't have much money to begin with." Watching Tohka count the cash she'd taken, Hogan felt his worldview had taken a serious hit.

Moments earlier, this petite girl had effortlessly taken down the group of burly men. That much Hogan could still comprehend, but what happened next completely shattered his expectations.

The usually slightly silly but endearing young lady suddenly transformed, exuding an air of streetwise ruthlessness.

She deftly searched the downed thugs, stripping them of all their money and valuables. As for the unfortunate group, they were promptly sent to the police station.

Starting tomorrow, this book might slow down to just one chapter per day. Managing two projects with 8,000 words daily is too much for me to handle.

I'll be traveling soon, so I need to stock up on drafts. I plan to visit the highlands, but I'm not sure if I'll experience altitude sickness.
