Chapter 212
Chapter 212 The Automatically Opening Door That Won’t Close
Tokyo Jujutsu High School, the dojo.
Rapid footsteps echoed on the clean wooden floor as a rather slender figure sprinted towards Satoru Gojo. Her smooth black hair tied into a high ponytail danced energetically behind her with each movement.
Yukinoshita Yukino leaped high, her legs creating a strong wind, and kicked lightly with her slender calf, striking the lighthearted white-haired man’s neck.
Satoru Gojo, the current strongest jujutsu sorcerer, effortlessly stopped her strike with a light raise of his hand.
He hadn’t activated his Limitless Technique and had not used curse energy to strengthen himself. Since they were merely practicing close combat, using a technique would be too unsportsmanlike.
As to why he was modernly the strongest again, it was because the former strongest had gone to another world line to tour and thus moved up in ranking, making second place the new first.
Unsuccessful at the first attempt, Yukinoshita Yukino used momentum to leap back, cutting through the air beautifully before landing on her feet, ready to charge out once more.
The two engaged in a series of intense close-quarters combat; their speed dazzling to the point of blurring vision. Unfortunately, there were no spectators aside from the two of them.
In the end, Satoru Gojo emerged slightly victorious, countering with a punch that struck Yukinoshida Yukino’s thin arm, pushing her away.
“Oh, what remarkable progress,” Gojo praised incessantly. “Even if I were to rate you as a Special Grade, it shouldn’t be an issue, right?”
At this moment, he wasn’t wearing his signature black eye patch; instead, sunglasses rested on his pointed nose, emitting a soft azure glow even through the tint, showing a pair of captivating eyes.
Recently, Yukinoshita Yukino came over occasionally to practice with him. At first, due to excessive caution, she held back. But every time, Gojo noticed distinct progress in the girl.
Now, without full seriousness, in close combat, Yukinoshita Yukino could match him.
“Thank you, sir Gojo,” Yukinoshita Yukino responded in a flat tone that implied she saw this as something natural.
“Speaking of Lin Qi, have you practiced with him too? How do you feel now he’s involved?” Gojo asked playfully.
The black-haired girl pondered, genuinely comparing the pressure of both men based on the severity expressed through tight creases in her brow.
After a while, Yukinoshita declared, “It seems Lin Qi exerts greater pressure.”
“…Ah.”
The expression of the white-haired man slumped instantly, revealing his frustration.
“Forget that, I have a mission for you.” Gojo’s emotions were swift and changeable, quickly reverting to his usual lighthearted demeanor, “I hope you can lead a team with Megumi and the other freshmen.”
“Why?” Yukinoshida asked doubtfully, “Is the mission very easy?”
“Why do you think that…?” He reached up to push back his slipping sunglasses, “Do you really believe Yuuji and co. are so weak?”
“Regardless of task difficulty, I want those cursed spirits exorcised, this is my condition, hence the ease should allow them some training. Leading them is a safety measure, isn’t it?” Yukinoshita explained.
“Besides, harder tasks might only serve as a burden, and they may even lose their lives.”
“Hahaha, that’s quite an insight,” the white-haired man laughed for reasons unclear to the narrator, perhaps finding humor in the situation, “By the way, the mission is estimated by supervisors to be at least Grade 2. That’s not exactly simple.”
“Minimum at Level Two… That must mean there’s potential for error in danger level prediction.” Yukinoshita nodded in understanding, “I see.”
“In that case, let’s go together then.” Gojo smiled.
There was an unspoken motive: Gojo planned for Yukinoshita Yukino, who knows the same techniques as Fushiguro Megumi, to assist the younger students. Megumi was set to learn from her during this mission.
…
“Soonji, August 11th, Kanagawa, Nitta Akira.”
“August 13th, Yokohama, Shimada Gou.”
“September 7th, Nagoya, Yamato Hirono.”
Nitta Akari, a blonde-haired assistant supervisor, passed a tablet with the victim profiles to Yukinoshita Yukino beside her and explained to everyone, “All three died identically, stabbed by curse spirits at the entrance to their apartment complexes.”
“And in the weeks prior to their deaths, they all complained about one thing: automated doors not closing properly, but the other residents didn’t face such issues.”
“This seems pretty spread out though,” the black-haired female remarked, passing the tablet to the backseat seatmates.
Indeed, the timing and locations were rather disparate. Even Fushiguro Megumi noticed, “Does this mean these weren’t caused by the same cursed spirit?”
“Um, could automated doors being stuck open be due to a cursed spirit?” Itadori Yuuji questioned, “Don’t sensors fail to detect them? Or is it cameras?”
“Actually, it’s the controller units of automated doors that malfunction under a cursed spirit influence.”
“Ah, controllers,” Yuuji responded, somewhat understanding.
“As for whether the cause is the same, we won’t know until we look at the remaining fragments,” said Kugisaki Nobara, touching her chin thoughtfully.
“So it could be possible they were all cursed before,” Itadori gasped in surprise, “Wow!”
“Good thinking, Kugisaki!” the pink-haired boy added, gazing in awe.
“Impressive, no?” Kugisaki smirked confidently.
Fushiguro Megumi, caught between them, couldn’t help but show an exasperated expression.
With the conclusion, they knew the next step. Yukinoshita spoke clearly, “So, we need to investigate our old junior high school.”
“Exactly. And also seek out those familiar to the victims. We need your perspectives as jujutsu sorcerers,” Akari confirmed.
The black car sped along the road, racing towards Juken East Junior High School in Saitama Prefecture.
