Chapter 213
Chapter 213 – Chapter 22 We Are the Spiritual Club
“A funeral…?”
When the group arrived at the home of the three victims’ acquaintance, Morishita, they were shocked by the sign hung on the street.
“Are we too late…?” Yukinoshita Yukino’s face was rather grim.
“I’ll go check the situation,” Niida Akari said to everyone and hurried towards Morishita’s house.
After a moment, Niida Akari returned, his expression solemn. He sighed and said, “Like those three, he was murdered as well, though there are no automatic doors at his hometown. He couldn’t open the door despite it being unlocked.”
“This is troubling.” She pinched her forehead, “I asked Morishita’s mother; she doesn’t know the relationship between Morishita and the three people. This clue is now broken.”
Yukinoshita Yukino mused for a while, then said, “…Perhaps someone is secretly watching us, and destroying our investigation from behind the scenes.”
Her mind flashed with the figure in white, that girl with bob-cut hair who followed Mr. Lin Qi and then suddenly left during their battle in Shinjuku.
“For now, let’s go to school and see.”
The group drove to Ukami East Middle School.
It was class time, yet two delinquent boys were seen squatting in the school courtyard puffing away at cigarettes.
Snow之下雪乃 frowned immediately.
While comforting the disheartened Junior Supervisor, Itadori Yuuji and Kugisaki Nobara noticed the two delinquents and lit up instantly.
“There are two easy targets!” the former grinned, rushing over with a thumping gait and pointing his thumb at the duo, “Let’s give them a good beating and question them afterward!”
“Huh!?! Where did you come from, peasant lady?”
One had dyed yellow hair, the other styled with a plane-head, both showing classic displeasure with strong-tongue remarks.
But upon seeing the four others approaching, their expressions turned abruptly fearful, like Sichuan opera transformations.
The two straightened and bowed respectfully, shouting in unison, “You’ve worked hard!”
Kugisaki Nobara and Itadori Yuuji were surprised and started to put on airs.
“Oh, aren’t they quite well-mannered.”
“Presence is always evident.”
Until the latter half of the sentence came out, “Graduated and haven’t seen you in a long time, Senior Fushiguro!”
Their imagined grand scene shattered, turning heads with dissatisfaction directed at the hunched youth.
Fushiguro Megumi silently turned away, “I attended middle school here.”
“Though it’s surprising, the key point isn’t that! Look here!”
“What did you do? What did you do in your middle school days?”
They grasped his head, forcing him to turn.
Ignoring the tussle, Yukinoshita Yukino frowned deeply and walked toward the delinquents, her clear voice, cold as Siberian winds, slicing through the air, “Firstly, extinguish those cigarettes.”
Hair-dyed yellow and plane-head both shivered and instinctively followed the order from that seemingly angelic maiden, obediently extinguishing their smokes.
There was a sense that this beautiful woman was even more terrifying than Senior Fushiguro…
“We have questions for you, please answer honestly,” Yukinoshita Yukino stated.
“You go ahead, then.” The two trembled under the pressure from the black-haired woman.
“Is it Kinota Tetsuichi, Shimada Chika, Yamato Hiro, and Morishita Ryoji? Have you heard of these names?” Yukinoshita Yukino asked.
“No,” replied Dye-hair delinquent, shaking his head.
“Me too… wait, Morishita Ryoji, I know him. I think I heard his name from my older sister!” Plane-head delinquent commented.
“Who is your sister?” Yukinoshita Yukino asked.
“Tajimi Shiori, in the same year as Senior Fushiguro. I am Tajimi Koushi,” he answered honestly.
“Fushiguro-san,” the black-haired woman called out, rescuing Itadori Yuuji and Kugisaki Nobara from tormenting Fushiguro Megumi.
“The funeral of Mr. Morishita was held nearby. Other details, I don’t know, must inquire with sister. Tajimi Koushi shook his head.
“Then, let’s not delay further,” Yukinoshita Yukino nodded firmly, “We will visit your home now.”
“Eh? Now?” Tajimi Koushi seemed caught off guard.
At this moment, an aged bespectacled man with white temples took notice of the gathering crowd in the courtyard.
“Hey, you all. Who are you? Outsider students aren’t allowed in the school without permission,” he yelled as he ran toward them.
Halfway, his steps gradually slowed. He gazed at the hunched boy, eyes slightly dazed behind glasses, “Fushiguro…?”
“…Hello, Mr. Watanabe,” Fushiguro Megumi nodded lightly.
“Sure enough, is everyone here your friends?” Mr. Watanabe pushed up his glasses, smiling again on his previously stern face.
“We have an entry permit,” Niida Akari, standing aside, pulled out a document from his suit pocket.
“Oh, so you are the ones,” Mr. Watanabe nodded. His gaze fell back on familiar Fushiguro Megumi, “Looks like you’re not just visiting old grounds.”
After a conversation with Mr. Watanabe, and the addition of information from the nearby delinquents, a crucial location surfaced—Hachijuhachi Bridge in Sendai City, known as a famous spot for suicides.
Supposedly, a notorious trial among delinquents involved bungee jumping from Hachijuhachi Bridge.
Kinota, Shimada, Yamato, and Morishita had all undergone this challenge, later found unconscious under the bridge a day after.
“So the next clue points to Hachijuhachi Bridge, then?”
The mist gradually cleared, as if nearing the truth.
The group then followed Tajimi Koushi to his home, meeting his sister, Tajimi Shiori—a short-haired fringe-wearing girl with freckles.
“You’re investigating Hachijuhachi Bridge?” Tajimi Shiori looked stunned, her expression uncertain, “Isn’t it related to Morishita san’s death?”
“Do you know something?” Yukinoshita Yukino asked bluntly.
“I…去过,” she stammered, “on a night in junior high, I went to Hachijuhachi Bridge.”
“Has anything strange happened at your home recently, things only one can notice?” Niida Akari asked.
Heeding her words, Tajimi Shiori’s fear intensified, “Our family runs a local specialty shop; when I return home, the automatic door is always open. While my parents say it’s a coincidence, I know… There’s definitely something strange.”
She hugged her arms tightly, “I’m scared, afraid of being killed like Mr. Morishita…”
“No, no, you’re just overthinking it…” Niida Akari tried to reassure her but was interrupted by Yukinoshita Yukino.
“Thank you for your information. Our university club is the Spiritual Club, very interested in mysteries of this sort. If you could tell us more similar eerie incidents, it’d be greatly appreciated.”
“Aside, let’s have this girl accompany you tonight. Tell her everything you’ve experienced in supernatural encounters,” the black-haired woman patted Kugisaki Nobara’s shoulder.
“That’s true… hearing that you’re members of the Spiritual Club made me feel much calmer, and I no longer suspect every little thing,” Tajimi Shiori confessed.
Alone, she still felt some fear. Coincidentally, she was scheduled to watch over the store that night. Thus, she nodded in agreement.
“Then, Shiori tonight is entrusted to you,” Yukinoshita Yukino winked at Kugisaki Nobara.
In other words, protect her.
After tonight, the matter should be settled…

That Boisterous Summer:
