Chapter 220
Chapter 220 – Chapter 29 – Bad Luck on a Rainy Night
“Haa!”
Hachiman Hikigaya lay down in the bathtub and let out a long sigh.
Warm water seeped through his body, the pores on his skin opening up to release the fatigue accumulated over the day.
Even from the living room sofa, Komachi Otoshi heard his sigh clearly and let out her own surprised exclamation, “It’s rare, big brother actually sounds so tired from work.”
“Yeah… I didn’t expect it to be this hard,” Hachiman commented back, feeling the same sentiment as Komachi.
He initially planned to just go along with the flow, but even doing just that left him exhausted. Just fulfilling the basic duties of being an executive committee member was already tiring enough.
They said there was a month of preparation time, but he couldn’t delay until the last minute like light novel authors who finish writing at the deadline, he had to complete all tasks a few days early and still allocate time for rehearsals.
His work was heavy, his time tight.
“Shouldn’t I exploit the other members to lighten my load? Isn’t that part of my duty as the executive committee leader?”
Muttering to himself, he tried to empty his mind.
Ding!
Suddenly, his phone on the side of the bathtub rang. He reached for it and froze upon seeing the caller ID.
After a moment of silence, Hachiman answered, “Hello, Mr. Ijichi. Is there anything you need?”
“Apologies, Hachigan-san. We’ve got a task for you,” Kiyotaka Ijichi’s serious voice came through the phone, “It’s urgent.”
“Isn’t there another juju sorcerer for this?” Hachiman asked stiffly.
“There’s always a shortage in our field,” replied Ijichi, “And the location is near Chiba, which is closer to your area.”
“I see. Please send me the details by email,” Hachiman sighed and agreed reluctantly.
“You’ve received it. Check your mail,” Ijichi said before ending the call.
Hachiman quickly checked the mission details sent by Ijichi. Rubbing his temples in frustration, he let out another heavy sigh.
He understood why Yukinoshita Yukino transferred schools now.
Sigh, bad luck on a rainy night indeed.
Though struggling with the executive committee’s tasks, he knew which were more important – those concerning lives.
…
“Wait!?”
Yuigahama Yuigahama looked shockingly at Shizuka Hiratsuka, who brought the news.
“Ou-chan took leave? Why? Is he sick?” She asked anxiously.
“Calm down first.” Hiratsuka shook her head with amusement, stopping her rapid inquiries, “He’s not sick. Ou-chan took personal leave. Can’t say what he went out for.”
“Oh, is that so…” Yuigahama blushed slightly, realizing her behavior.
“Are you worried about him?”
“No, no way!” Yuigahama’s blush deepened.
“Then hurry back to work. With the chairman absent, you need to take over his responsibilities, vice-chair!”
Komachi suddenly changed her tone, causing Yuigahama to smile uncomfortably and return to her desk.
“Everyone heard, Chairman is out today, help him with the workload!” Hiratsuka addressed the other committee members laughing.
“Sure,” they replied half-heartedly, amused.
They saw Komachi’s concern towards Yuigahama.
Yet, in students’ eyes, Teacher lost her intimidating aura.
Unless she uses force.
She’s known as “Iron Fist Teacher”. She’s gained a nickname that sticks.
Angry, she’s scary.
With a final joke, they focused on their tasks.
In front of Yuigahama lay a stack of documents. Her head throbbed from looking at them.
So, Ou-chan worked that hard…
She realized the volume of work the chairperson did, explaining why no one wanted the position first.
Without Hachigan around, she had to handle his responsibilities, asking him via messages for any unclear points.
…
“Whoa, can’t other juju sorcerers take these jobs?”
As he opened the car door, Hachiman saw a familiar face waving at him in the backseat, and his lips twitched involuntarily.
“Only juju sorcerers of rank two and above take solo missions; rank three typically work in teams,” Ijichi explained.
“It’s been a while, Hachigan-san,” Junpei Yoshino greeted with a smile.
“Quite a while!” Hachiman replied casually from the passenger seat, noticing the drastic change since last time, “You look different altogether.”
Yoshino had gone on missions with Nanami Kanou during their visit to Jumonkan previously. During the battle in Shinjuku, Hachiman hadn’t seen Yoshino either. They only met when Itadori Yuuji invited him out to play.
He didn’t know where Itadori found his address, but he visited one weekend accompanied by Megumi Fushiguro and others.
When he saw unfamiliar faces then, Hachiman wanted to politely decline, but Komachi’s pressure forced him to join.
Back then, Yoshino had long fringes covering his right cheek, appearing listless and confused.
But now, his black hair was cut short. His energy seemed restored, always smiling warmly.
“Why cut your hair?” Hachiman asked curiously.
“The scar from burning by a cigarette lighter was removed by Inasa Narukose, and long hair was unnecessary to hide it anymore, so I cut it short,” Yoshino explained happily.
“Besides, I wanted a new look to mark the start of my new life.”
