Chapter 231 - A Small Plot Detail

At this moment, Mai Dongzi had a reason for having Uncle Zhuang take the elderly members of the family to Blue Water Star.

Mai Dongzi remembered a small plot detail: someone once reported to Prince Arthur that two people from an extremely harsh marginal planet had miraculously survived, only to later die from a lack of food.

After reuniting with Uncle Zhuang and her maternal grandparents, Mai Dongzi, driven by her emotional attachment, became deeply concerned that the two elderly individuals would not survive the apocalyptic purge. As she pondered how to help them through the crisis, this small plot detail came to mind.

Although it was only a brief mention—just one or two sentences—Mai Dongzi had a habit of pausing to analyze the hidden information in such details. Because of this, she remembered it so clearly even now.

She also recalled her analysis at the time: during the apocalyptic purge, the more densely populated a life-sustaining planet was, the more intense the cleansing would be. Except for children, almost no one could escape this phase.

Conversely, remote life-sustaining planets with sparse populations were likely to be overlooked. Those living there were not caught in the purge, allowing them to survive.

If marginal planets with extremely low populations could be neglected, then what about uninhabited, non-life-sustaining planets? Would they not be within the scope of the purge at all?

Recalling this small plot detail, Mai Dongzi came up with the idea of having Uncle Zhuang take the elderly to hide on a marginal planet. However, at the time, she had not yet decided on a specific location.

After all, uninhabited planets were not suited for human survival. If Uncle Zhuang was to take the two elderly people there for one or two years, he needed to find a relatively safe, adaptable, and strategically positioned uninhabited planet.

After reuniting with Mai Zixuan, Mai Dongzi confirmed with him that in all the records they had read, Blue Water Star was never mentioned during the apocalyptic purge.

However, in the later Dagula Star Human Alliance, Blue Water Star became the new imperial capital of the Blue-Black Empire and eventually one of the most prosperous planets.

This suggested that Blue Water Star was likely overlooked during the apocalyptic purge, or perhaps there were no significant figures on the planet at the time, which is why it was never brought up.

Upon confirming that Blue Water Star would become the most prosperous planet in the future, Mai Dongzi instructed Uncle Zhuang to go there and manage the land she had won from the Survival Live-Stream Game.

She had already received the title deed to this land two years ago, but she never had the time to take care of it.

Following Mai Dongzi’s instructions, Uncle Zhuang built a sturdy little fortress on the land, equipping it with the best protective shield available.

This way, when they eventually migrated to Blue Water Star, they would have a safe and secure home.

At the time, Blue Water Star had only around ten thousand people, most of whom were mercenaries seeking adventure, with a few immigrants.

However, ever since rumors of the apocalyptic crisis began to spread last month, most of the mercenaries who had been staying on Blue Water Star chose to leave, further reducing the already small population.

Mai Dongzi had Uncle Zhuang build the fortress not just to prepare for the future but also because she had a hidden strategy in mind.

A remote location with a sparse population had a higher chance of being overlooked during the purge.

Given the strength of Uncle Zhuang and her grandparents, staying on the imperial capital planet would only lead to certain death. Therefore, Mai Dongzi decided to take a gamble.

Last month, she had Uncle Zhuang take her grandparents and leave the imperial capital planet—officially heading to Shui Lan Xing, but in reality, they were going to one of its companion moons.

The companion moon was an uninhabitable planet with low gravity and small size, making it easy for a small starship to land and leave as needed.

Uncle Zhuang brought enough supplies to sustain the three of them for two to three years, planning to hide there for a year or two until the external situation improved.

Blue Water Star was already far from the center of the Blue-Black Empire and had a sparse human population. Its lifeless companion moon was even less likely to attract attention.

Of course, this was just Mai Dongzi’s speculation. She had analyzed the situation briefly—it was more of a gut feeling, but she couldn’t let others know. If too many people knew, it might lose its effectiveness.

During the years of oppression under Zhao Fanni, almost all of the Zhuang family’s friends and relatives had severed ties with them. This made it easier for them to leave without attachments.

However, Uncle Zhuang and the two elders were reluctant to leave Mai Dongzi and Zhuang Huaiya behind. They didn’t want to abandon them and escape on their own.

They hesitated until Mai Dongzi persuaded them with logic, and only then did they finally leave half a month ago.

Mai Dongzi had a reason for not letting Zhuang Huaiya hide with them.

The apocalyptic disaster was about to sweep across the entire Dagula Star System. Even after the apocalyptic purge, countless hardships would follow, and few people would survive.

However, those who managed to survive through multiple life-and-death struggles would experience rapid growth in their cultivation and strength.

While Uncle Zhuang and the elders could avoid the initial catastrophe, they would lose the opportunity to become stronger.

Besides, hiding was not a long-term solution. Once they could no longer stay hidden, they wouldn’t be able to survive without powerful cultivators to protect them.

If Mai Dongzi and Zhuang Huaiya could survive the apocalyptic purge, they would become much stronger than they were now and would be able to protect the Zhuang elders.

If the two of them didn’t survive, then the Zhuang elders would eventually meet the same fate, just a little later—reuniting with them in the afterlife.

This reasoning was undeniable, and Uncle Zhuang and the two elders were convinced.

Zhuang Huaiya had originally been frustrated and anxious because the apocalypse was imminent, yet his father chose to leave the highly fortified Imperial Capital Planet and instead took his elderly parents to a remote location.

But now, upon learning that his father was acting on his cousin’s instructions, his worries eased significantly—despite the fact that Mai Dongzi did not explain her reasoning to him.

His cousin’s premonitions were always accurate. If she had instructed his father and grandparents to go to Blue Water Star, it must mean she sensed that they would be safer there than on the Imperial Capital Planet.

After settling Zhuang Huaiya’s concerns, Mai Dongzi turned to Mai Zixuan and asked, “Why are you here too?”

For the past three months, Mai Zixuan had been seeing her almost every day and was aware of the apocalyptic crisis.

They had only been back at school for a day, so Mai Dongzi couldn’t understand why Mai Zixuan had come looking for her so soon.

Moreover, his expression seemed strange—a mix of excitement and unease.

Zhuang Huaiya had run into Mai Zixuan on the way and noticed his odd demeanor. Since Mai Zixuan seemed to have something private to discuss with his cousin, Zhuang Huaiya sensibly excused himself.

“Sister, I received a few really strange messages on my way back today.” Mai Zixuan said, his voice filled with excitement.

“I suspect… they were sent by Dad.”
