Twilight - Dimensional Traveler

Chapter 20: Edythe’s Surprise

"Are you afraid of me? Want to run?" Edythe's voice rang out. "You can't. Because I'm faster than you."

Just as a gust of wind blew past, Mark pretended not to see anything and acted as if he was trying to find Edythe.

"I'm stronger, too!" Edythe appeared a few meters away and, with a punch, shattered a tree in half.

This time, Mark didn't fake it—his eyes widened in shock.

Since when were Twilight vampires this strong? he thought, staring at the missing half of the tree.

He swallowed hard and thought: This tigress is seriously fierce.

Edythe saw Mark's reaction and felt satisfied—at least he didn't run like a coward, she thought.

"You once asked me if I wanted to drink your blood. Remember?"

Mark, still stunned, snapped out of it when he heard her question. Just as he was about to speak—

Edythe appeared right in front of him, her gaze fierce. Mark noticed the color of her eyes and shut his mouth.

Edythe leaned her fangs toward Mark's neck, pretending to bite him—then whispered in his ear:

"I could drink your blood right now… turn you into a vampire… or drain you dry and kill you."

She pushed Mark back with one hand and smiled at him. Until that moment, Mark hadn't said a word.

"I need to show you something. Come with me."

Before Mark could react, Edythe tossed him onto her back and sped toward the mountain peak.

Mark felt awkward—he hadn't expected Edythe to carry a big guy like him on her back.

"Where are we going?" Mark asked.

"To the top of the mountain—where there's sunlight," she replied, speeding up.

...

Minutes later, they reached the mountain's summit. Without warning, Edythe dropped Mark.

Quick on his feet, Mark managed to avoid falling.

Edythe looked at him and stepped forward—surprised he didn't fall like she'd expected.

They walked to a spot bathed in bright sunlight. Edythe stepped into it, turned to face Mark, and asked:

"What do you think?"

Mark didn't respond immediately. Compared to the movie, he found it even more beautiful.

It was a soft, crystalline glow—as if her skin turned nearly transparent in the sun. He walked toward her, never taking his eyes off her.

"It's beautiful. Why do you look unhappy?" Mark noticed the sadness on her face and asked.

He gently cupped Edythe's face with both hands. Edythe gazed at him and opened her mouth—but couldn't speak.

"I already knew what you were. And I'm not afraid," Mark said.

"Really? Even though I'm an immortal monster who drinks blood?" Edythe said softly.

Mark smiled, released her face, and stepped back without saying anything.

Seeing this, Edythe reached out to stop him—but midway, she lowered her hand and watched him walk away.

She lowered her head, thinking that Mark was afraid of her, that he'd reject her. After all, how would a human ever want to be with a blood-drinking monster like her?

"Look at me—and don't blink, or you'll miss the show," Mark's voice reached her.

Edythe looked up and saw him smiling at her.

She didn't understand what he meant, but just as she was about to speak, her eyes widened.

Mark activated his Sage Mode of the Six Paths—blue flames ignited from his feet to his head.

It happened in an instant, giving Edythe no time to react. If I had to describe Mark now, he looks like Naruto when he activates his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode.

Eight black orbs appeared behind him, floating in the air, and a black staff manifested in his hand.

His eyes still gleamed blue, but it was a different kind of blue than Edythe had seen before.

If the earlier blue resembled a beautiful sky, this one was like a flowing river of pure energy.

"If you're a monster—then what am I, with the power to destroy the entire earth?" Mark teased.

Edythe took a small step back—not out of fear, but because the pressure Mark emitted felt like one movement could obliterate her without leaving a trace.

Mark stepped toward Edythe and stopped just inches in front of her.

The two gazed silently into each other's eyes.
