Twilight - Dimensional Traveler

Chapter 7: Jacob

Bella didn't mind the interaction between the two—her mind was elsewhere.

When she heard the teacher say she would be sitting next to Edward Cullen, her heart began to race.

Mark, who had just helped out, watched Bella as she walked toward her seat beside Edward. Edward, however, didn't dare look at Bella.

He kept covering his nose, afraid he might lose control if he smelled her.

When Bella sat next to him, Mark noticed that she sniffed her hair, and kept glancing at Edward throughout the entire class.

Soon the bell rang, and Edward stood up with a rush of wind and walked away as if he were escaping.

Bella, who had planned to ask about the scent issue, could only watch helplessly as Edward fled.

"You don't stink, if that's what you're thinking. To him, you smell very good—almost too good."

Bella heard a voice in her ear just as she was about to turn and look back. Mark passed by her and left.

Mark didn't want to meddle in others' business; after leaving those comforting words, he walked off.

Ever since he arrived in this world with his system, his life had been just school and home.

Mark thought it was time to change that routine.

...

The next day, Mark noticed that Edward missed class, which he found strange.

It seemed that, even with his intervention, events were bound to play out as they were meant to.

Days went by, and Edward continued to skip school, and soon the weekend arrived.

Mark thought it would be fun to shake up his routine. Since coming to this world, everything had been reduced to school and home.

Today he prepared some gear and set out for a hike. The weather was also perfect for it.

After buying a few items from the system's shop, he left home—making sure to tell his dad he'd be staying out.

"All right, stay safe."

William said with a smile. To him, it was nothing unusual—he trusted his son and knew he wouldn't do anything reckless.

"Okay. Love you, Dad." After giving his old man a hug, Mark took a taxi to the Quileute tribal reservation in the Northwest.

Once there, Mark saw many tourists and a few guides from the Quileute tribe.

But Mark planned to go alone. With his strength, he feared nothing.

After getting a map, he compared it with his mapping skill and plotted out a two-day route back to Forks.

"You're new here—I've never seen you around before."

Just as Mark was about to set off, he heard someone speaking near his ear.

When he turned, he saw a long-haired boy.

For some reason, the boy was watching him closely. Mark activated his mind-reading ability and understood the situation.

"Yes, I moved to Forks a few months ago. I heard a lot of people come here to hike." Mark replied with a smile.

Jacob looked Mark up and down, about to say something, when a man in a wheelchair approached.

"Jacob, let's go!"

He looked at Mark and nodded.

"Hello, you're Dr. William's son, aren't you? You're really a handsome young man—just like your father said."

Mark was surprised to meet Jacob in this situation, but when he heard the man in the wheelchair address him, he smiled and replied politely.

"Yes, sir, he's my dad. My name is Mark Sanchez."

"I'm Billy Black, and this is Jacob," Billy said, extending a hand.

Mark reached out and shook his hand.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Black."

"Just call me Billy," Billy said with a smile.

After shaking hands with both, Jacob spoke.

"You like hiking in the mountains?"

"Well, it's my first time doing it—I think I'll be fine," Mark said with a smile.

"Well, our reserves have incredible views. Hope you enjoy it," Jacob said.

"I'm looking forward to it," Mark said politely.

Mark hadn't expected to run into these two here.

When he read Jacob's mind earlier, he discovered that both Jacob and Billy were suspicious of Mark.

They both thought he might be a vampire—even though Billy had only just met him. For him, only vampires could have such supernatural looks.

It was only after they shook Mark's hand and felt his warmth that they let their guard down.
