Twilight - Dimensional Traveler

Chapter 8: Night Visitor

After a brief chat, Billy and Jacob left.

Mark watched the two figures disappearing in the distance and let a few thoughts wander through his mind.

Smiling, he turned and headed into the forest.

A few hours passed as Mark walked through the dense woods. Sunbeams filtered through the tree canopy, casting soft patches of light across the dark forest floor.

Now and then, Mark spotted common animals from the region.

Beep.

The sound came from the watch on his wrist. Mark turned his wrist to check the time—it was nearly noon, lunchtime.

Looking around, he searched for a good spot to rest and eat.

He didn't find anything ideal nearby, but checking his map, he saw a promising location a few minutes away from where he stood.

Mark calculated it would take him 30 minutes to reach the marked spot. He picked up his pace.

In less than 20 minutes, he arrived at a spacious open field where several deer were grazing near where he appeared.

Mark entered the clearing and found a large, flat rock.

He climbed onto it, set his backpack down, and began picking out something to eat.

Faced with a wide variety of options, Mark felt overwhelmed for a moment. After some thought, he made his choice.

He had bought hamburgers, fries, fried chicken, and Coca-Cola to drink.

The smell of the food made his mouth water. He quickly took a sip of Coke and started devouring his meal.

Within minutes, everything was gone. After letting out a burp, he lay down on the rock and closed his eyes to rest.

When he opened his eyes again, two hours had passed.

After disposing of the trash, he grabbed his backpack and continued along his path.

...

It was nighttime when Mark found a good place to sleep. During his journey, aside from wildlife, he hadn't encountered any humanoid beings.

After spotting an empty clearing, Mark set up a temporary camp. According to his calculations, he would reach Forks by tomorrow afternoon.

Using materials he'd bought from the system's store, he built a fire and decided to have soup for dinner.

Once everything was settled, Mark entered the tent, zipped it closed, and lay down to sleep.

Technically, he no longer needed sleep or food—but he did both out of habit and enjoyment.

If he didn't, he felt like something was missing. That's why he'd realized that being too powerful wasn't always a blessing.

Still, he was confident that nothing in this world could harm him, so he didn't set up a barrier or anything of the sort.

Late at night, no one knew exactly when Mark fell asleep. His breathing was peaceful, and only the sound of insects echoed through the dark forest.

Moonlight lit scattered corners of the woods—when movement stirred among the trees.

A figure darted through the forest in a swift, nighttime hunt—moving far too fast for the human eye to track.

She was heading toward Forks.

Even at high speed, she moved gracefully between the trees. That's when she caught a peculiar scent.

She was going so fast that when she stopped, her feet slid across the ground for several meters. Sniffing, she pinpointed the direction of the smell.

Curious, she ran toward its source. In just a few minutes, she stopped beneath the shadow of a tree a few meters away.

Her eyes fell upon a tent set up in the open space—her expression puzzled.

She hadn't expected anyone to be camping this deep in the forest.

It was the scent of the fading campfire that had led her here.

Just as she was about to move closer to investigate, she halted—she noticed movement inside the tent.

She stepped backward, deeper into the shadows to conceal herself, and watched silently.

Inside the tent, Mark was asleep when he sensed a presence approaching at incredible speed.

His eyes shot open, and he sat up quickly, waiting silently—he sensed the other figure was also waiting for something.

Mark felt it was up to him to make the first move. If the other was a hostile vampire, he could eliminate them, and that would be the end of it.

He opened the tent's zipper and poked his head outside, looking toward the source of the movement.

In that dark corner, Mark saw a pair of golden eyes staring back at him like polished gold.
