Chapter 51: Kingpin End
Inside, the tower went on full alert. Panic spread through the control room. Security scrambled. Turrets came online. Backup squads were armed and ready.
Alex and Cypher didn't care.
They reached the bottom of the stairs. Alex looked up at the tall tower and let out a calm breath.
"So," Cypher said, "what's the plan?"
"We walk in," Alex replied. "Tell him we're here to return the favor. If he doesn't like it… we destroy everything."
Cypher smiled. "I like that plan."
Two guards at the entrance raised their rifles.
"Stop right there!" one shouted.
Alex didn't stop.
"Last warning!" the other yelled.
Cypher didn't speak. She just moved her hand.
Three dark tendrils came up from the ground and slammed both guards into the wall with enough force to crack it. They were out cold.
Alex placed his hand on the scanner. A beep. Then sparks. The glass doors shattered as his energy short-circuited the system.
They walked in without hesitation.
Alarms went off. Red lights flashed. Guards ran.
Cypher summoned three lesser demons from her shadow. They were hunched, black-skinned creatures with sharp claws. They ran ahead, attacking any guard in their way.
The entire lobby was cleared in minutes.
No one dared to come close after seeing the security feed.
Top Floor – Kingpin's Office
Kingpin watched from the cameras. His jaw clenched in anger as he saw the balant disresepect.
"They're walking right in," one of his men said, shocked. "They're not even trying to sneak."
Fisk turned from the screen. "Get the heavy weapons ready."
He walked to his wall safe and entered a code.
"And bring me my armor. If they want a war…"
The safe clicked open.
"Then they'll get one."
INSIDE FISK TOWER – LOBBY TO UPPER FLOORS
Alex and Cypher stepped past the ruined lobby. The air was thick with the metallic tang of blood and burnt circuits. Red emergency lights blinked rhythmically, bathing the scene in ominous flashes. Security alarms blared overhead, but neither Alex nor Cypher seemed fazed.
The elevator doors were locked down.
"No patience for elevators anyway," Alex muttered, kicking open the door to the stairwell.
Cypher followed, her shadowy coat billowing like living smoke. Her sharp eyes scanned the surroundings, detecting movement two floors up.
"More company," she said.
Alex smirked. "Good. Let's test how deep that abyss of yours goes."
FLOOR 5 – THE FIRST INTERCEPTION
Halfway up the first set of stairs, armed mutants burst through the doors above them. Six in total, their powers as diverse as their appearances. One had glowing red fists; another's skin gleamed like metal. A woman stood at the back, her hands sparking with electricity.
"Stop right there!" one of them barked, his voice trembling slightly.
Cypher tilted her head and raised a hand. The shadows around her surged forward like liquid darkness, swallowing the light in the stairwell. The mutants hesitated, trying to sense her movements, but it was too late.
Tendrils erupted from the shadows, grabbing two of the mutants instantly. They screamed as the darkness dragged them into a swirling abyss that had formed beneath Cypher's feet.
"What—what is this?!" one of the remaining mutants yelled, firing a plasma blast at her. The energy hit her shadow shield but dissipated harmlessly.
"Your worst decision," Cypher replied with an eerie calmness.
The abyss under her grew larger, stretching up the walls. The mutants panicked, attacking with their powers. Fireballs, lasers, and electric bolts flew toward her, but every attack was consumed by the void.
The metallic mutant charged at Alex, fists swinging. Alex sidestepped, his movements swift and precise, and slammed the hilt of his blade into the man's neck. The mutant crumpled to the ground, gasping for air.
The others weren't so lucky. Cypher's shadows engulfed them one by one. Their screams echoed briefly before fading, their bodies absorbed into her abyss.
When it was over, the stairwell was silent. Cypher stood in the center, her aura pulsing with newfound energy.
"They're part of me now," she said, her voice almost a purr. "Their strength, their power—it all feeds the abyss."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Efficient."
FLOOR 10 – ANOTHER WAVE
As they ascended, another group of attackers awaited them—eight this time, all mutants, each one clearly more seasoned than the last. One man wielded a massive energy cannon, while another floated in mid-air, his body surrounded by crackling blue flames.
"You've made a mistake coming here!" the floating mutant shouted, throwing a fireball at Alex.
Alex deflected the attack with his blade, the energy dispersing harmlessly. He grinned and stepped forward.
"No," he said. "You made the mistake by standing in my way."
Cypher didn't wait for orders. Her shadows shot forward, faster and more aggressive this time. They split into multiple tendrils, slamming into the mutants before they could react.
The man with the energy cannon managed to fire once, but the blast curved unnaturally mid-air, sucked into the void surrounding Cypher.
"I don't think so," she said, smirking.
One mutant—a woman with crystalline skin—managed to dodge the tendrils and rushed toward Alex, claws extended. Alex caught her wrist mid-swing, twisting it with enough force to make her scream. He swept her legs out from under her, pinning her to the ground with his foot.
"You picked the wrong fight," Alex said coldly, knocking her unconscious with a swift strike.
Cypher's abyss expanded again, swallowing the remaining mutants. The shadows seemed hungrier, their movements more fluid and predatory. Within seconds, the entire team was gone, their powers consumed by Cypher's growing strength.
FISK TOWER – 62ND FLOOR – KINGPIN'S OFFICE
After tearing through wave after wave of security, mutants, and weaponized defenses, Alex and Cypher finally reached the top of Fisk Tower.
The 62nd floor.
The hallway leading to Kingpin's private office was long, clean, and eerily quiet—lined with reinforced steel doors and surveillance cameras. The air smelled like ozone from burnt wiring and broken tech. Auto-turrets hissed from hidden wall slots, opening fire the second their sensors locked onto movement.
