Chapter 12: A Bond Blossoms
Kanata sat cross-legged on Jisso's bed, his purple eyes glinting with mischief as he tilted his head toward her.
**Kanata:** "So… are you not going to sleep with me?"
Jisso looked at him, flustered, her cheeks heating up.
**Jisso:** "T-That's not the case!"
Kanata leaned back, crossing his arms with a smug expression.
**Kanata:** "Don't worry, I'm not like Rai. You're safe."
**Jisso:** "No, no! That's not what I meant!"
Kanata rolled his eyes dramatically, gesturing for her to move faster.
**Kanata:** "Come on now. Don't waste my precious sleep time."
With an exasperated sigh, Jisso gave in.
**Jisso:** "Fine…"
She climbed onto the bed, settling herself next to Kanata. She shifted awkwardly, trying to keep some distance between them, but his casual demeanor wasn't helping.
Kanata turned to her, a teasing glint in his eyes.
**Kanata:** "You're hot."
Jisso immediately turned red, her eyes widening.
**Jisso (blushing):** "W-What do you mean by that?"
Kanata blinked, confused by her reaction.
**Kanata:** "I mean your body's boiling. Your temperature is high."
**Jisso:** "R-Really? And what do you expect my body to do when I'm forced to sleep next to a boy?"
Kanata smirked, clearly amused by her flustered state.
**Kanata:** "How should I know how your body works?"
**Jisso (huffing):** "Shut up!"
She playfully pushed him, but Kanata barely budged, his smirk only growing.
**Kanata:** "You know, you're more like a child than an adult."
Jisso shot him a sharp look.
**Jisso:** "And you're any better? Same case for you!"
Kanata straightened up, his expression suddenly serious.
**Kanata:** "I'm a man."
**Jisso (rolling her eyes):** "No, you're not."
Kanata narrowed his eyes at her, leaning closer.
**Kanata:** "Shut up."
**Jisso:** "You're the one who started it."
Kanata's eyes glinted with mock irritation, and he leaned even closer, their faces just inches apart.
**Kanata:** "One more word from your mouth, and I'll kiss you."
Jisso froze, her heart skipping a beat.
**Jisso (stammering):** "What?"
Before she could react, Kanata closed the gap, pressing a soft, unexpected kiss to her lips. Her mind went blank, her cheeks burning as his lips lingered for a moment before pulling away.
Jisso pushed him back, her face a mix of shock and embarrassment.
**Jisso:** "This is not what I wanted!"
Kanata smirked, his voice dropping slightly.
**Kanata:** "But I really wanted it."
Jisso crossed her arms, trying to regain her composure.
**Jisso:** "Why? Don't tell me you've never kissed a girl before."
Kanata's expression turned slightly sheepish, and he rubbed the back of his neck.
**Kanata:** "No, I haven't. That was my first kiss."
Jisso blinked, confused.
**Jisso:** "First kiss? Then how do you even know how to kiss?"
Kanata shrugged, giving her a lazy smile.
**Kanata:** "I read about it in one of those romance books Rai keeps lying around."
Jisso stared at him, trying to process his words.
**Jisso:** "So… you've never experienced loving someone before?"
For the first time, Kanata's playful demeanor shifted. He smiled bitterly, his eyes dropping to the bed.
**Kanata:** "No… I haven't. And you're the second girl I've met in my life."
**Jisso:** "Second? Who was the first?"
Kanata hesitated, his voice quiet as he answered.
**Kanata:** "Your mother."
Jisso's jaw dropped.
**Jisso:** "Wait… really? But I thought… first one was *your* mother."
Kanata's eyes widened in genuine surprise, his purple irises gleaming in the dim light.
**Kanata (shocked):** "My mother?! Where did you get *that* idea?"
Jisso looked at him, just as shocked by his reaction as he was by her assumption. The room fell silent as they stared at each other, both unsure of what to say next.
Kanata sat quietly at the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on a distant point on the floor. His usual playful demeanor was gone, replaced by an unfamiliar vulnerability.
**Kanata (softly):** "She left me when I was born."
Jisso froze, her heart sinking at the pain laced in his voice.
**Jisso:** "I'm… I'm sorry, Kanata. I didn't mean to upset you."
Kanata shook his head, letting out a faint, bitter laugh.
**Kanata:** "It's fine. I'm used to it. I've always known that I'm bad luck for everyone."
**Jisso (firmly):** "No, you're not. Don't say things like that."
Kanata remained silent, staring down at the edge of the bed as if lost in thought. Jisso hesitated for a moment, then leaned forward and gently lifted his face so that his violet eyes met hers.
**Jisso (softly):** "You know what? You're the one person in my life who makes me feel free. Like I'm just… with a friend. Someone I can be myself around."
Kanata blinked, a faint smile beginning to tug at the corners of his lips.
**Kanata:** "Really?"
**Jisso (smiling):** "Yeah. Back home, I used to hang out with my friends all day. No matter how long we stayed together, I never felt tired. That's the same feeling I get with you."
Kanata tilted his head slightly, studying her as if trying to process her words.
**Kanata:** "So… you're saying I'm like one of your friends?"
**Jisso (nodding):** "Of course. I mean it."
Kanata's smile widened, the usual playful light returning to his eyes.
**Kanata:** "Then… you're my first-ever friend."
Jisso's eyes widened in surprise. The words hung in the air for a moment, and suddenly everything made sense—the way Kanata often distanced himself from others, the defensive walls he built around himself, the rare moments of sincerity he let slip.
**Jisso (softly):** "Kanata…"
She hesitated, then smiled warmly at him.
**Jisso:** "From now on, we're going to spend more time together, okay?"
Kanata's face lit up with excitement, a grin spreading across his face.
**Kanata:** "Okay! I'd like that."
Jisso let out a small yawn, covering her mouth with her hand. Kanata's grin softened into a fond smile as he leaned back against the pillows.
**Kanata:** "Looks like someone's tired. Let's get some sleep. Tomorrow, we'll start spending more time together."
**Jisso (smiling):** "Right."
As they settled under the blankets, Kanata pulled Jisso into a gentle hug, resting his chin on her shoulder. She hesitated for a moment, then reached up to run her fingers through his soft purple hair, her touch comforting.
For the first time in a long while, Kanata felt a warmth that he couldn't quite put into words—a sense of belonging he had never experienced before.
**Kanata (murmuring):** "Goodnight, Jisso."
**Jisso:** "Goodnight, Kanata."
As the moonlight bathed the room in its soft glow, the two drifted off to sleep, their bond growing stronger with every passing moment.
