Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Changing the Timeline
A plane with a transport ship in tow slowly landed on a plateau somewhere in China. Several young people watched from the shadows.
"That's the Academy's plane, but why is there a transport ship behind it?" one of the observers asked with puzzlement.
"The Professor didn't notify us about any changes, so it should be okay, Bobby," a girl beside him replied. If Professor Xavier and his companions had encountered trouble, he could have used his psychic abilities to warn them before anything happened.
After all, the Professor had been using the brainwave enhancer, which allowed him to instantly connect with minds across the globe. If something had gone wrong, he could have alerted them immediately.
"Still, we should be careful. Kitty, you and Bishop get ready. If it's Sentinels, we need to move fast."
"Got it..."
Under their watchful gaze, the plane landed smoothly. Storm was the first to exit.
Behind her, Logan, Charles, and their former enemy Magneto walked out one after another.
"Storm! Professor! It really is you!"
Bobby exclaimed in surprise, his voice signaling to the others that they could lower their guard.
"Bobby! You're standing on your own now. And Kitty, Colossus—it's been too long."
Storm embraced Bobby, delighted to see her former students again.
"It has been a while," Bobby agreed. "But what's with the transport ship behind you?"
Just as he asked, the transport ship's cabin opened, and many people descended from the vessel.
Those exiting the ship carried various unusual weapons but appeared to be in high spirits. If they hadn't been wearing prison uniforms, Bobby and the others might have mistaken them for another team from the Academy operating in secret.
"Who are they...?"
"They were rescued by an old friend of the Professor's, and now they've been invited to help with the Professor's plan," Storm explained.
At the mention of the plan, Kitty looked at Charles with excitement.
"Professor, your theory was right—we succeeded!"
It turned out they had been using Charles's method to escape danger. Whenever Sentinels discovered them, they used Kitty's ability to alter the past, keeping themselves safe.
This strategy had allowed them to survive the Sentinels' relentless hunting until now.
"I see you've trained them well over the years, Charles."
Marcus's voice interrupted their conversation. Bobby and the others turned to look at him. His casual demeanor made them furrow their brows.
Before they could respond, Charles turned with a smile.
"We couldn't forget the foundation you provided us all those years ago."
Marcus's training sixty years earlier had formed the basis of the Academy's curriculum. Over time, they had built upon those fundamentals with additional training methods.
Every mutant who had studied at the Academy had received a version of this training, which had produced many powerful X-Men over the years.
Hearing Charles's words, Bobby and the others were stunned. According to the Professor, they'd been trained using methods this man had developed?
But the Professor and his colleagues were in their seventies or eighties. Could this man really be the same age? Looking at Marcus, their minds raced with questions. They seriously wondered if he possessed powerful healing abilities like Logan.
Inside the temple, Charles explained his plan to everyone. He intended to use Kitty's ability to travel back fifty years and change the course of history.
The freed prisoners from the transport ship busied themselves building defenses around the temple.
Though they didn't fully understand Charles's plan, they knew he aimed to alter their fate.
Everyone worked diligently, gathering materials and reinforcing the temple's structure.
Meanwhile, Marcus began extracting energy from both the transport ship and the plane. These vehicles served no further purpose, so rather than letting them go to waste, he decided to use them.
Soon, Marcus emerged from the transport ship with a satisfied smile and walked toward the X-Men's plane.
"Is it just me, or is he draining energy from our vehicles?"
Bishop commented while holding his weapon. As a mutant who could absorb and release energy, he was particularly sensitive to such things.
According to his perception, the transport ship had been completely drained, and the plane's energy levels were rapidly declining.
"Your intuition is correct," Storm nodded. She had noticed what was happening when Marcus extracted energy from the transport ship. "Though the Professor and Magneto know him, they don't seem to know much about him."
Storm found it odd. Both the Professor and Magneto typically understood mutants quite well.
Yet they knew surprisingly little about Marcus. Even when Charles told Logan about his past before the memory loss, he hadn't provided many details about Marcus.
After extracting the Aya Stars, Marcus disembarked from the plane. The combined energy from both vehicles had provided him with four more Aya Starss. He now possessed twelve in total—enough to create three battle armors.
But this wasn't the time to craft new armors. Suppressing his excitement, he walked toward Storm and the others.
"Hey, your name is Ororo, right? May I see that whip of yours?"
The whip at Storm's waist looked familiar to him. It appeared to be one of the weapons he had left behind.
"Whip?"
Storm was momentarily confused before untying it from her belt.
The Professor had given her this whip, claiming it was very effective. According to him, it had been left by an old friend. Could it be connected to Marcus?
"Ha! I knew it. I can't believe Charles kept this whip for sixty years."
The moment he took it, Marcus confirmed it was indeed the one he had crafted with Red Devil.
Though the whip had been significantly modified by Charles and his team—now covered with sharp metal pieces that twisted when swung to create more lethal damage—it was unmistakably his work.
Additionally, Storm's ability to control lightning made her the perfect wielder. The whip could achieve its full potential in her hands.
Marcus swung it through the air a few times, creating sonic booms with each strike.
"Not bad. Charles has maintained this whip remarkably well over the decades."
He handed it back to Storm.
"Was this your weapon?" she asked curiously.
"Yes, I made it sixty years ago and gave it away back then."
Marcus nodded slightly. The whip had been impressive in its day, but was now somewhat outdated.
Unless he took time to enhance it, the whip wouldn't meet his current combat needs.
However, the "Devil's Touch" (as he had named it) was perfectly suited for Storm and enhanced her combat effectiveness, so he had no intention of reclaiming it.
