Warframe Voidwalker : Multiverse Journey

Chapter 77: Chapter 77: Familiar Faces

Marcus's greeting caught everyone's attention. They stared at Xaku [Resonance of the Void] standing atop the transport ship with confused expressions.

What was this being? They had never seen anything like it before.

Charles, seated in his hovering wheelchair, descended from the plane.

Upon seeing Marcus and the destroyed Sentinel beside him, Charles finally understood why he had detected thoughts about a strange skeleton in the minds of the freed prisoners.

"You are..."

They were completely unfamiliar with Marcus's transformed state as Xaku, but his greeting made them curious. Who was this figure before them?

"Me? Oh right, you haven't seen me like this."

Marcus waved his hand, collected all the energy reactors around him, and his body gradually returned to human form as the energy surrounded him.

Seeing Marcus in his human appearance, Charles and Erik fell into deep thought. The young man before them looked strikingly familiar.

"Well... it seems you've forgotten me?"

Their expressions made it obvious—they didn't recognize Marcus.

"By the way, Logan, what year is it now?" Marcus asked.

Logan eyed Marcus with a puzzled look. He too felt a strong sense of familiarity, but couldn't place it. He took a drag from his cigar, searching his fragmented memories and finding nothing about this stranger.

"It's 2023 now. You look familiar—were you my friend before I lost my memory?"

"2023?"

Marcus raised his eyebrows in surprise. He'd only been away for a few years, yet sixty years had passed here?

"That's quite something. No wonder you don't remember me. The last time we met was sixty years ago."

His remark triggered something in Charles and Erik. They had been trying to recall recent allies, not someone from six decades past.

"You... weren't you killed in the explosion after Shaw's death?"

Erik asked in disbelief. They had witnessed Marcus being caught in that blast, the explosion seemingly obliterating him completely.

His words made Storm roll her eyes. How could Erik claim someone was dead when meeting them for the first time?

But looking at the Professor and Magneto's reactions, this man who had transformed from a strange armored being back to human form was clearly someone they once knew.

"I was indeed caught in that explosion, but here I am, alive again."

Marcus smiled and waved his hand dismissively. His old friend had lost his memory, and his former employer had grown old.

"I have to say, seeing you all so aged makes it awkward to joke around like old times."

Except for Logan, everyone showed signs of aging. Facing such a group, the kind of banter they once shared didn't seem appropriate anymore.

"We never expected to meet you again after sixty years."

Charles had figured it out. Marcus's ability had a suppressive effect on other mutant powers, and his weapons possessed extraordinarily destructive capability.

The Sentinel robots that replicated mutant abilities posed a massive threat to other mutants, but to Marcus, they were hardly different from ordinary machines.

"Are you planning to take these people to hunt Sentinels?"

"Yes," Marcus nodded, holding up an energy reactor. "I need the energy from these reactors, so I have to hunt these big guys."

His answer startled several of them.

Charles and Erik took it in stride, knowing Marcus's abilities. When facing Sentinels that couldn't use their copied powers, Marcus's combat prowess would be devastating.

But Logan, with his lost memories, and Ororo standing beside him were bewildered. Where did this man get the confidence to casually talk about hunting Sentinels?

"I have a proposition that might interest you," Charles said with a smile.

"No thanks. I didn't collect my fee last time, which was generous enough."

Marcus intended to refuse Charles's invitation. If not for the Sentinels forcing mutants into hiding and flight, he would have demanded his payment with interest.

"What if I told you there are continuous waves of Sentinels where we're going?"

"Oh?" Marcus raised an eyebrow, looking at Charles with renewed interest. "Is it because your feet no longer touch the ground that your IQ has improved? Or does baldness enhance intelligence? This offer is much more tempting than before."

"If there really are continuous Sentinel attacks, I'll help you."

Rather than searching for Sentinels everywhere, it would be more efficient to find a fixed location where they came to him. This would streamline his collection of energy reactors.

But first, he had one more task to complete.

Under everyone's watchful gaze, Marcus's body transformed into pure energy and rushed toward the newly captured transport ship.

Shortly after, numerous prisoners ran out of the vessel and gathered around Charles and the others.

The transport ship gradually descended to the ground as everyone watched. Soon it dimmed, and the hull became covered in rust.

Clang!

The hatch of the transport ship suddenly flew off, and Marcus emerged.

He had extracted the energy from the ship's engine and its many reactors. The engine alone had yielded two Aya Starss, and the reactors combined had provided another two.

The Aya Starss in his possession had increased from four to eight.

It was enough to shape two different armors, but Marcus decided to wait. After this business was concluded, he could carefully consider which armors to create.

After exiting the now-scrapped transport ship, Marcus waved his hand and prepared to board the remaining vessel to leave with Charles.

The freed prisoners had no objections. In this world, death awaited them everywhere. Following Marcus seemed their best option.

After Marcus boarded the transport ship, Charles and the others returned to their plane. They now had enough allies.

If they followed the Professor's plan and found Kitty Pryde and the others, they could execute the strategy Charles had mentioned.

"Professor, did I know that guy before?"

After a long silence, Logan finally couldn't contain his curiosity.

He had lost many memories of his past. Though Marcus seemed familiar, he truly couldn't remember their connection.

"When we first met, you already knew Marcus. You were both powerful mercenaries back then..."

Charles and Erik began recounting events from sixty years ago, when they were still young men.

Meanwhile on the transport ship, Marcus sat atop the vessel as the liberated prisoners chattered below.

"So Mr. Skeleton is a mutant too! I never imagined he'd be so powerful."
