Warhammer 40k: Starting as a Rogue Trader

Chapter 169: Chapter 170: For Aiur!

Chapter 170: For Aiur!

After Lucan used the Divinity Machine to resolve the psychic overload problems for the remaining members of the Third Company, the Blood Ravens, as per Lucan's request, took their existing fleet and headed towards the Koronus Expanse. Traveling to the Expanse to fight for Lucan was the first payment on the debt of honor the Blood Ravens had to make.

And after arriving in the Expanse, the Mongorte Dynasty would also help the Blood Ravens find suitable candidates from among the Dynasty's many worlds to complete their recruitment plan. The remaining Blood Raven companies, scattered throughout the Halo Stars, also began to assemble in the Expanse as ordered.

The Stellar Pioneer was left behind at Malfi by Lucan to serve as a stable bridgehead for the Dynasty, while Lucan himself, along with Kerrigan and Artanis, jumped back to the Expanse first.

Lucan wanted to establish a new home for these Protoss from StarCraft in the Warhammer world, just like the Swarm's planet Char. An uninhabited and habitable planet would become the new Aiur. And Lucan already had a suitable planet in mind.

In order to unlock and load the third game program, the terraforming of planets had never stopped. Compared to transforming planets that had been heavily polluted by violent, unrestrained mining and industrialization, it was much faster to terraform pristine planets with relatively harsh environments. In the uninhabited star system near Char, there happened to be such a planet that was already halfway through the terraforming process. Although it was still some distance from being a truly habitable world, it was enough for the Protoss to temporarily settle here, and the terraforming would not stop.

The best part was that this place was secluded enough not to be disturbed by other factions, which could meet the initial development needs of the Protoss.

On the bridge, Artanis looked at the planet in the distance.

"Artanis, this is your new home. It will also be your Aiur."

"Aiur... Yes. I will lead the Protoss to make our home here."

A transport ship carried Lucan and Artanis to the Adeptus Mechanicus outpost that was conducting the terraforming. The original members of the Mechanicus and the workers had all been evacuated, leaving behind a considerable amount of supplies.

Lucan could use the Probe provided by the system to construct various production and military buildings, but the Protoss, unlike the primitive Zerg, were not so indiscriminate about their living environment. These Protoss had their own emotions and thoughts; they also needed to live and survive. These supplies would be a great help for their initial development.

The floating Probe waited quietly by Lucan's side. Lucan opened its construction list.

[Protoss Nexus: Consumes 50,000 Psy-crystals]

[Pylon: 500 Psy-crystals]

As the most fundamental Protoss building, the cost was higher than Lucan had imagined. But for the Protoss, it was a necessity. Probes needed to be produced from this building, and the Nexus was the center of the Protoss psionic matrix. It could even be called the heart of the Protoss.

Psy-crystals were consumed. On the cleared open ground, a huge, dark, and deep sphere of light suddenly appeared in this world. As time passed, a massive building appeared out of thin air before everyone's eyes. It didn't look like it was being built, but rather as if it had been directly teleported here.

The moment the Nexus was completed, psychic energy began to gather towards the building. Lucan felt that the psychic energy being drawn by the Nexus was the same purified energy from the area around his Sarr-Naga projection in the warp. This allowed the Protoss to draw on the warp's psychic energy without being directly invaded by its malice, which was an unexpected bonus for Lucan.

At 100 crystals per Probe, they were still cheap. As Probes began to emerge one after another from the Nexus and started to build Pylons nearby, Lucan found the 500-crystal price tag for each Pylon affordable. Looking at the nearly three million Psy-crystals he had saved up over the years, plus the spoils from the battle of Malfi, it should be enough to cover the initial construction of the Protoss base.

The Pylons were the energy source for all Protoss buildings. They also drew on psychic energy to power all Protoss structures and maintain their normal operation. In terms of social structure, the Protoss were more like a psychic race than any race in the physical universe of Warhammer, not even the Eldar, the psychic creatures created by the Old Ones, could compare. Psionics permeated almost every aspect of Protoss society; even their food consisted of various cosmic energies and this psychic power.

As the crystal network spread, other production buildings began to be constructed. Gateways, Stargates, Robotics Facilities, Forges, Cybernetics Cores, and other production and technology buildings were built one after another.

The Terran Starport had only cost Lucan 100,000 Psy-crystals. But the Protoss equivalent, the Stargate, cost him a full 200,000. The pain... The Psy-crystals he had worked so hard to save up felt like they were about to bottom out.

And those powerful units required not only metal but also a large amount of energy. This meant that Lucan needed to constantly expand the psionic matrix on Aiur to provide power for these Protoss creations. The construction time for Protoss warships and various heavy units was also double that of Terran units.

But what Lucan wanted most was the Spear of Adun. However, when he saw its production requirements, Lucan was stunned for a moment. The Spear of Adun was also known as the Arkship of the Protoss. It was not only a powerful weapon powered by a star, but it also possessed time-based technology. At the same time, it was a research base and a production base. It could be regarded as a mobile Protoss world, just like the Craftworlds of the Eldar.

And its production condition was just as its name implied: Lucan needed to conquer an Eldar Craftworld, and use the vast number of Eldar souls and psychic energy within its Infinity Circuit to bring it into this world.

It had to be said, this was a very harsh condition. The Eldar Craftworlds were few in number, and it was usually very difficult to find them. But now, these Eldar had started to appear in his territory. Perhaps there was a chance to do it!

Lucan transferred the authority for all the buildings to Artanis. As the true leader of the Protoss in StarCraft, Lucan believed he knew the Protoss better than himself and knew how to allocate resources more effectively. Professional work should be left to the professionals.

Lucan also began to provide Artanis with the manpower he needed. After returning to the Expanse, Rebecca and Verre, as per his request, began to collect soul stones from throughout the alliance and the Imperial territories in the Expanse. Although they didn't find any high-level Eldar soul stones, they found quite a few common ones. The people who owned the soul stones were happy to trade these things for more practical resources from the Mongorte Dynasty.

Combined with the soul stones obtained from the Blood Ravens, he already had enough to provide Artanis with an entire army.

Lucan began to link to his projection. He consumed all the resources converted from the soul stones in one go.

And with that, near the established Pylons, countless beams of light descended from the sky to the ground. One by one, the Templar of the Eldar were transformed from deconstructed energy signals into physical entities. The souls of the Eldar were replaced by the Templar, and the power of their souls became the tether that brought the Protoss into this world.

Watching the scene before him gave Lucan the feeling of watching a cinematic from Legacy of the Void. A full ten thousand Templar and two High Templar appeared, almost filling the entire area.

Artanis watched all this with excitement. He touched his severed nerve cords where the Khala once connected, and as these Templar arrived, one Protoss thought after another began to appear in the Khala. The Protoss would also rebuild a new Aiur here.

"For Aiur! My people, the sacred Khala links us, uniting us in desperation! Templar! Reveal your psi-blades! As the Firstborn of the gods, the Protoss shall once again fight for our great Creator!"
