Chapter 548: The Secret Meeting
I looked around the place that was supposed to be my rendezvous with my mystery contact.
Seems like I was early since there isn't anyone here right now.
The meeting place was supposed to be some garden which I now realised was something I was seeing for the first time after coming to this universe.
Since the meeting took place deep in the night, the place was currently deserted.
Speaking of which, we had to go through a lot of security just to step foot on this floor.
I had to show them the proof that I was invited to meet someone here before they would let me through and they initially did not even allow my girls to follow me until we insisted on it.
I'm guessing they did not want to be the reason why I was prevented from meeting my client which might implicate them which was why they gave in.
Heck, they didn't even try to insist I had to take off my power armour either and seem to even be actively trying to ignore that fact.
For the guards to step aside like that, I have a feeling that whoever I was meeting must be some kind of big shot.
The girls went to hide somewhere while I stood in the middle of the garden wearing my power armour.
I figured that since the person shouldn't know what I looked like, this shouldn't be a problem and they would just assume the only person standing in the middle of this garden in the middle of the night would be me.
I waited… And waited… And waited…
I checked the time in the corner of my HUD, five minutes past the agreed time…
Guess this guy isn't the type to be punctual.
I was just about to start walking around the garden to see if I might have gotten the meeting place wrong when footsteps came from behind me.
Spinning around, I found a single young man flanked by two women in maid uniforms.
The man was wearing some really flamboyant clothes that were a deep purple in colour with green streaks running along the sides with ruffles along the edges of the jacket.
It kind of reminded me of those Victorian era types of clothing except this one looks more futuristic and pretty expensive.
Heck, even the maid uniforms the two women were wearing looked expensive as well with how detailed the craftsmanship looked.
The young man stopped a short distance away from me and the maid moved behind him to drop something on the ground which quickly projected light above it to transform into a regal looking throne which he sat upon.
He looked me up and down, "Hmm… So you're the one then?"
I pretended not to know what he was talking about, "Sorry… Umm… I'm the one that what?"
He huffed at me, "You don't need to waste my time with that. I am the one who sent that box to you to sabotage that four armed peasant so you can drop that pathetic attempt at an act."
Tsk… Fine then.
At least he's not even questioning why I was wearing power armour and he doesn't even look that worried… Like as if a walking tank in front of him was no big deal.
I straightened myself, "Fine then. I'm just here to collect the promised money and I'll be on my way."
He steepled his fingers in front of him, "Hmm… Not so fast…"
I fucking knew it, he's going to ask me to do something or some other crap before he will let me have the money…
He leaned forward in his chair, "You… Didn't actually gave her the drug, did you?"
I managed to keep my face blank but then I realised I was wearing my power armour anyway so he wouldn't be able to see my face anyway.
Thus, I simply acted confused by tilting my head at him, "What do you mean? Did I not win the competition?"
"You have, but you did not give her the drug, did you?"
I shrugged, "You wanted me to win by any means necessary, right? That's what I did. You didn't say that I must feed her that drug in order to fulfil your requirements."
"Incorrect. I specifically said to feed her the drug. I merely said that I do not care what method you used to feed that drug to her."
"But your primary goal was to make her lose the competition, right? Which was something I had accomplished anyway so it still works out."
He stared at me over the tips of his fingers before slowly leaning back.
"Which Family are you from?"
I blinked, "Family?"
"I told you to stop playing dumb with me, this is just wasting both of our time. The fact that I'm even speaking to you directly should show you how sincere I am in this, no? So stop testing my patience."
"I'm really sorry but I seriously don't know what you're talking about."
He paused to stare at me before narrowing his eyes, "Really? Do you really take me for some kind of idiot?"
"Err… No. I'm really just confused right now… I think there might be some kind of misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding you say? Then please, do tell me why you are here?"
I pointed at myself, "Me?"
"Do I look like I'm speaking to anyone else, right now?"
"I mean… Haven't we already established the fact that I'm here just to collect the money you agreed to pay me and nothing more?"
"That's not what I'm talking about, you obnoxious idiot. I'm asking why you are even on this station? Why are you sent here? Perhaps our goals might align and we might even be allies. I'm not averse to lending aid to one of our allies."
I shook my head, "I think there really is a misunderstanding here. I wasn't sent here by anyone. I just came here for some vacation, that's all."
Now it was his turn to look confused.
"Not sent by anyone? Are you telling me that you just so happened to come here, just so happened to meet with that four armed freak, just so happened to challenge her and just so happened to be a much better bartender than she is?"
"Err… If you put it that way, it does look a little unbelievable… But I honestly didn't expect this to blow up into something big. I only wanted to have a drink that night and saw on the GalaNet that her bar was a must visit place so I went there… Then I wanted to skip the queue and found out about the challenge so I decided to just try it out for the sake of it and then it escalated to something like that."
He was just staring at me with wide eyes and I don't even need to be able to read his mind to know that he's probably thinking about how ridiculous the situation was.
He finally leaned back in his chair and scowled at me, "Fine… Whatever. Then let me rephrase my question, which Family do you serve? Who is your master?"
"I… Do not have one? Oh! Wait! Are you talking about the Noble Families?"
"Who else could I be… Hold on, are you telling me that you are not a servant of a Family?"
I shook my head, "Nope, sorry. I'm just a normal person living in the Outer Colonies. I have never been to the Inner Colonies before."
He slammed his fist into the armrest of his chair and a shockwave actually blew out from there, causing a gust of wind to blow through the garden.
"Liar!!" He growled. "If you aren't one of us, then explain why can't I read your mind?!"
Read my mind? Oh, shit…
"I… Ermm… I don't kn--"
I couldn't finish my words when I felt myself suddenly lifted up into the air.
Looking down, I realised he had his palm pointed at me right before he swung it down.
I smashed face first into the ground, my entire body feeling like it was made of lead as I was unable to move.
An intense pressure pushed down on me and I could hear the armour around me cracking as I was held to the ground.
Slowly, the power armour started squeezing around me and I realised this must be how Amber's and Mara's enemies felt right before they died.
You couldn't even fight back, there was absolutely nothing you could do but lay there and take it when you're faced against a Psionic.
"I can't believe I wasted time on you," He growled, pushing even more force down on me. "Whatever, just die then."
Just as I felt even more force pushing down on my back, something flew out of the shadows and the guy immediately turned and raised his other arm, releasing me from his control to stop the giant slab of a broken wall from hitting him.
From the darkness of the trees, Mara floated out with even more debris floating around her.
"Hello… Brother…" She greeted with an upturned chin.
Ah fuck.
