What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

Chapter 559: Research Station Archive

I kicked off the ledge and let myself float down two levels before I grabbed onto the side to stop my fall.

Using that as leverage I pulled myself up and floated back into the derelict station, taking a moment to use the light from my Power Armour to inspect the floor I was on.

Since the power had been turned on, the station was now lit up albeit just barely since some of the light sources were destroyed by the fire.

Still, it was at least bright enough that I could see without just relying on the power armour's light.

Seems this was supposed to be a canteen of some sort, which I guessed must be one of the things the sign was pointing to when we first saw it outside the Living Quarters.

The only thing was that this place had been split in half so the other half of the canteen must be floating off on the other side of the broken station.

Additionally… Since the artificial gravity hasn't returned online and neither were the life support systems, I could only assume that they were also on the other side.

Actually… Not that the life support systems would make a difference considering that big hole here…

None of them were my goal anyway, so I simply went through the door and looked for the archives instead.

It wasn't that hard to find the place as I still had the map with me so I simply followed it until I found the door that should lead inside the station's archive.

The door was closed shut and there was a card reader at the side so I inserted the security card that we found into the slot, the reader's screen glowing green before the door slid open.

Lucky.

I pulled out the card and floated through the doorway, looking at the rows upon rows of data terminals which made this place look like a server farm.

"Ries? What am I looking for now?" I asked.

Ries hummed through the comms, "Hmm… There should be a main data terminal located somewhere in there. Just look for a console or something."

I kicked off the floor and floated up towards the ceiling to get a better view of the room.

I found the console in question easily enough since everything looked the same except for that one console that was placed in the middle of the room.

Kicking off the roof to propel myself to the console, I landed right beside it to see that the console seemed to be locked up by some glass covering the controls.

At the top, there was a keycard reader so naturally I slid the security card into the slot which made the panel slide open.

I then connected my Codex to the console and began downloading all the data that was stored here.

A screen popped up to show the download progress and just as I was about to ask if Amber was doing fine, I saw something move in the corner of my vision.

I immediately swivelled my head in that direction while pointing my left arm at where I thought I saw the movement, only to see nothing there at all.

Hmm… Was I just imagining it? Or was it the trick of the light reflecting off the data terminal?

"What is it, Boss?" Ries asked, no doubt seeing my actions through her screen.

"Nothing… I thought I saw something move over there…"

There was a pause before Ries spoke again, "You can switch to thermal vision Boss. Just instruct your power armour's AI to switch."

"Err… Thermal vision?"

Instantly, my vision changed and all I saw was a sea of blue.

I looked around the room, hoping to see if there was anything that might indicate I wasn't imagining things but aside from some small specks of red which came from the data terminal, I did not see anything else.

I switched back to normal vision and nothing seemed to cha-- Wait!! There it is again!!

When I was looking around, I spotted something dark hide behind one of the data terminals like a person ducking their head behind cover!

I immediately jumped in that direction, letting the zero gravity carry me until I was above that data terminal to check behind it.

When I reached there, I found… Eh?

It was the top half of a severed body laying on the ground.

Huh… Maybe all I saw was this corpse that had been floating around? The thermal vision also didn't spot any heat coming from it so I guess that was what I saw?

Right then, a notification came from my Codex indicating the download was complete and I shifted my gaze to my wrist to check the screen that was projected in front of it.

But as I did so, I noticed movement from the corpse and I turned back again only to see the disembodied corpse suddenly push off the ground and shoot towards me, his hands reaching out as though to grab me.

What the fuck?! Is that a zombie?!

I reacted on instinct as I raised my other arm to smack the flying guy across the face with the back of my hand, sending him crashing into the wall.

I then levelled my arm with the shotguns to point in his direction, watching as he tried to push himself off the wall to fly towards me again.

The shotgun let out a blast and I found myself flying backwards from the force since I was currently floating in zero gravity.

I checked behind me and tilted my body so that I was perpendicular to the wall, absorbing the impact with my feet when I reached it and stopping myself.

Maybe I should have just opted for the laser weapons instead…

I looked up at the zombie again and paused when I saw the damage that I did to it.

The shotgun pellets blasted off his face and upper torso but instead of blood and flesh, it exposed internal machinery and circuitry with sparks appearing at where the holes were.

I didn't notice it earlier but it seems like this wasn't a zombie but an android instead huh? The bottom half also had sparks flying out that I didn't notice earlier.

"Girls?" I called out, wondering if they saw what I did.

"An android…" Ries muttered. "I'm surprised that it was even still functioning…"

"Should I bring it back for you to inspect it?" I asked.

"That would be helpful, Boss."

I kicked off the wall to propel myself towards the destroyed android, my hand reaching out in preparation to stop myself from slamming into the opposite wall.

But right then, an alert came from within my Power Armour and the HUD's minimap was showing a red dot moving towards me from the side.

I turned and found another guy lunging towards me from the doorway. The fact that he wasn't wearing any space suit to protect him from space meant this guy must also be an android.

This time, I activated my Wave Blade and slashed it in front of me, cutting the android vertically in half.

I continued forward and felt my arm touch the wall, my course remaining unaltered despite my attack.

Are these androids the station's security or something? Maybe they got activated after we turned the generator on?

As I was thinking about that, I saw a few more faces appear at the doorway, all of them staring at me.

Unlike the previous two androids that still look human, these androids seemed to have their skin burned off so only the metal skeleton underneath remained and they were looking at me with those red lights that functioned as their eyes in those metallic eye sockets.

I gulped at the sight, right before all of them started launching themselves through the doorway to fly towards me, their hands all reaching out to grab me.

Deciding that I didn't have the luxury to hesitate right now, I pointed both my arms at the horde and started unleashing a barrage of kinetic rounds from both my shotguns and miniguns to tear through the androids.

Without warning, the lights around me suddenly shut off and the room was plunged into darkness.

Amber?! Don't tell me she was also attacked up there which forced her to stop supplying the generator with fire?!

Shit! All of you better get out of my way right now!! Amber needs me!!

I intensified my shooting and the dark room was lit up by the muzzle flashes from my guns, the red lights that were the androids' eyes snuffing out one by one as the kinetic rounds shredded through them.

Just as I was about to consider charging through them with my Wave Blades, an explosion came from my right and I chanced a peek to see Amber flying through the ceiling in a ball of fire.

Ah… She used her fire to melt through the ground to get to me I see.

"Tera!!! I'm here!!!" She screamed through the comms.

She waved her hands and the horde of androids in front of me were smashed into the wall, all of them crushed like pancakes in an instant.

Right… She didn't shut off the power because she was attacked… She shut off the power to get to me instead.

Well… At least I already finished the download…
