When Dragon Balls Descend Upon Marvel

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Recruitment

Shima walked through the kitchen and headed up to the rooftop terrace. There, he instructed two sumo guards:

"Stand watch here. Don't let anyone inside."

The guards nodded. Shima pushed open the door and walked over.

On the rooftop terrace, a small outdoor dining setup had been prepared. Seeing the man in front of him accompanied by a floating blue cat balloon, Shima remarked:

"You've really changed. I didn't expect you to take a liking to this kind of toy."

"I thought you'd find peace... but clearly, things didn't go as planned."

John Wick turned around to face Shima, remaining silent.

Shima gestured toward the table and continued:

"The High Table executed the controller of the New York Continental for helping you."

"My daughter fears we'll be next."

John finally spoke:

"I'm sorry about Winston. I will avenge him."

He sat at the table. Shima poured tea for both of them and asked:

"Have you considered how this ends?"

John looked at him, unsure whether to share the Assassin Alliance's recent victories.

Shima continued:

"The High Table will never stop."

"You know this. It only brings death."

John took a sip and replied:

"I'll kill them all."

Shima chuckled:

"I believe you'll try. But no one can kill them all. Not even you."

He added:

"Do you want to die? That's your choice. But only those who live with dignity can die with honor."

John answered:

"We left dignity behind long ago, my friend."

Shima was silent for a moment, then sipped his tea.

After a pause, John said:

"Koji, I'm sorry to bother you like this."

Shima replied with a wave of the hand:

"True friendship is tested in hardship."

John looked at him and said:

"I need something from you. In exchange, I'll give you a reason you can accept."

Shima raised an eyebrow:

"What is it?"

John reached into his suit and pulled out the Four-Star Dragon Ball.

"I know you possess a similar item with five stars. I need it."

Seeing the item in John's hand, Shima didn't look surprised. He took the Five-Star Dragon Ball from his coat and placed it on the table.

"Once I heard you and Komora were searching for these, I figured you'd come. If you need it, take it."

John nodded and pocketed it.

"Thank you, Koji."

Then he said:

"If you want to keep your daughter safe, I can recommend a place."

Shima frowned:

"With our identities, where is truly safe in this world?"

John replied:

"I've joined the Assassin Alliance. Recently, we took down three Elders of the High Table and the forces behind them—Komora, Marquis Gramont, and the Casablanca Elder."

Shima was stunned:

"How... how is that possible?"

"And this Assassin Alliance—I've never even heard of it. The only force I've known that dared oppose the High Table was the Hand."

John realized that the Osaka Continental wasn't as informed as its New York counterpart.

"You can try contacting those three. You'll quickly find out they've gone completely silent."

Shima waved over a guard and whispered instructions. The guard ran off.

John began explaining:

"Yes, the Alliance has existed for over a thousand years. They've clashed with the High Table before, and now they're moving again."

"It's unbelievable—but real."

Shima was visibly shaken. Awe and respect for the Alliance and its mysterious leader filled him.

"Jonathan... you want my daughter to go there?"

"Do you believe the Assassin Alliance can defeat the High Table completely?"

John didn't answer directly. Instead, he asked:

"What do you think of my strength?"

Shima thought for a moment:

"Very strong. Among all assassins I've met, you're the best. Even those I thought could match you—I believe you'd win in a life-or-death battle."

John nodded and said:

"And yet... in the Assassin Alliance, I don't even rank."

"If they wanted to assassinate me, I probably wouldn't even see them coming."

Over the past days, John had come to understand the Alliance's terrifying capabilities—their sniping from extreme distances, their bullets that could curve—if they wanted him dead, it'd be inevitable.

As for their leader, GOD, to John, he was beyond comprehension. Calling him the new Captain America would be an understatement. After all, even Steve Rogers needed a shield—this man could take bullets bare-skinned.

Shima covered his mouth in disbelief.

"What do you want me to do?"

John replied:

"Worst case, send your daughter to them. I have a few slots and already spoke with the leader."

"Mid-level plan—remain neutral. The High Table will definitely rally their forces for war. You stay out of it."

"Best case—choose the right moment to betray the High Table and show the Alliance your stance."

Shima took a deep breath. He knew the world was about to change forever.

At that moment, the guard returned and informed him that Komora and the Marquis were unreachable. As for the Casablanca Elder, their branch was already considered mysterious, but the Morocco Continental confirmed major upheavals.

Suppressing his dread, Shima said:

"Call Akira up here."

As the guard left, Shima turned to John:

"I'll take both the best and worst options."

John smiled in approval:

"Koji, trust me—you've made the right choice."
