When Dragon Balls Descend Upon Marvel

Chapter 46: Chapter 46: The Hunter

Shima Koji took out a bottle of whiskey, poured two glasses—one for himself and one for John Wick. Raising his glass, he said:

"To success."

John lifted his whiskey glass.

"It will be."

Just then, Akira arrived.

"Father, you called for me?"

But upon seeing John Wick, she froze.

"What is he doing here?"

Koji stood up and addressed his daughter:

"Mr. Wick is our guest."

Akira's expression shifted to anger.

"Father—"

Koji interrupted her:

"Come here."

Though clearly upset about her father's meeting with John, Akira still obeyed.

Koji gestured toward John.

"Wick, this is my daughter, Akira."

"Akira, this is your Uncle Wick."

Despite her reluctance, Akira greeted him:

"Uncle Wick."

John pulled a specially crafted three-stage bullet out from his inner suit pocket, placing it on the table.

"Koji, have Akira bring this bullet to William Castle, southwest of the Brooklyn Naval Yard. Someone there will receive her."

Koji nodded and told Akira:

"Akira, thank your Uncle Wick."

Instead, she looked to her father, concerned.

"What are you planning? I'm not leaving."

She clearly realized that if she was being sent away, her father must be about to help John.

Koji's expression turned stern:

"Akira, this is not a discussion. It's an order."

Though confused and concerned, she nodded.

"Understood."

Koji's face softened slightly.

"Take the token and leave immediately."

Akira picked up the bullet and exited.

······

From within the Osaka Continental, everything—from their conversation to the exchange of the bullet—was being observed through a Dragon Ball by Smith Doyle.

He didn't mind John's recruitment attempts. Since Koji chose to send his daughter for refuge, Smith had no reason to refuse her.

While he observed, the nine remaining Elders of the High Table had already dispatched their personal forces to New York and sent their Adjudicators to regional Continentals to recruit assassins.

At that moment, Fox knocked and entered.

"GOD, the injured brothers have recovered. Who's our next target?"

Smith tapped the desk in thought, then answered:

"Not long ago, the Marquis's forces attacked our HQ. If we strike now, we may be vulnerable to another attack."

"From what I know of the High Table, retaliation is imminent."

Fox nodded, but still asked:

"Should we recall our brothers from other outposts to reinforce HQ and avoid losing more bases?"

Smith shook his head:

"No need to recall everyone. But we do need to prevent further losses."

"Have our outpost members regroup with the Italian Mafia. They're among our next targets."

"Once we weather this next counterattack, we'll regroup again and take down three more factions. After that, the High Table will be on the verge of collapse."

Fox nodded again.

"Then we prepare for an ambush. What about the various Continental branches?"

Smith replied coldly:

"Once the High Table is dealt with, notify them to shut down and disband."

"If any refuse—destroy them."

Fox said nothing more and left.

Smith made his way to the training room to work on energy sensing. If he could learn to detect Ki, it would greatly boost his strength.

Elsewhere—

After exchanging farewells with Koji, John left the Osaka Continental, his helium balloon Pool floating beside him. His next stop: Hong Kong, to retrieve the next Dragon Ball.

But just as John exited through the backyard—

The Hunter and his German Shepherd were already lying in wait.

"John."

Hearing his name, John didn't look back. He raised his suit jacket to shield his head.

"Biu. Biu. Biu."

"Tang. Tang. Tang."

As bullets whizzed by, John identified their direction. He curled his body and rolled sideways, drawing his pistol and firing back.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The bullets struck the tree where the Hunter was hiding, but didn't hit him. Meanwhile, the German Shepherd crawled through the grass, stealthily approaching John.

John drew a second pistol with his left hand, flipped the safety, crouched, and fired single-handed toward the tree.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The tree bark splintered with every shot, but the Hunter stayed low and out of sight, silently counting John's bullets.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Click!"

Empty.

Hearing the telltale click, the Hunter blind-fired around the tree.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

John dodged the shots and moved closer to the tree.

The Hunter shouted:

"Get him!"

The dog lunged from the grass, clamping down on John's shooting arm and shaking violently.

As John struggled, the Hunter stepped out, aiming for a clean headshot. He wouldn't risk hitting his beloved companion.

In desperation, John punched the dog several times to no effect. Then, raising his left-hand pistol, he shot the dog in the head.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Three bullets shattered the dog's skull. John's arm was freed.

All of it happened in an instant.

The Hunter roared in anguish and rage, pulling out a shotgun from his back.

"AAAH!"

Fueled by fury, he aimed directly at John.

"BOOM!"
