Chapter 10: Letters and Promises
Scene 1: A Silence Too Loud
Location: Camp Khidmat, Medical Tent
It had been ten days since Zayan left.
Ten days without messages.Ten days of pretending she was fine.Ten days of stitching wounds and ignoring her own.
Hana sat alone during lunch, pushing rice around her plate. People spoke around her. Laughed. Grieved. Healed.
But her mind was in a helicopter somewhere, chasing a face she couldn't forget.
"Dr. Hana?"
It was Nurse Shanzay, holding a worn-out envelope.
"This came for you. Delivered by military courier."
Hana stared at it. Her name in thick strokes. Zayan's handwriting.
Scene 2: The Letter
Location: Her Private Tent
She lit a candle before reading, hands trembling.
My Dearest Hana,
If you're reading this, it means I've made it out… or I didn't.
I don't know which version of me you'll remember—the arrogant soldier or the man who couldn't stop watching you when you laughed.
This mission is dangerous. Classified. Even I don't know the endgame.
But I needed you to know this…
Loving you changed me.
I once believed strength was silence. You showed me it was compassion.
You once said war doesn't allow love.
I think war creates it. Between chaos and calamity… you were my peace.
If I return, and you'll still have me, I'll never leave again.
If I don't… know this:You were the greatest chapter of my life.
Always,Zayan
Tears streamed down her face. Her fingers clutched the letter like it was his heartbeat.
She didn't sob. She simply whispered, "You better come back."
Scene 3: Unexpected Visitor
Location: Base Perimeter – Late Evening
That night, as the wind rustled tents and stars blinked overhead, an unfamiliar jeep rolled into camp.
Hana watched from the gate.
Out stepped a woman in military attire—calm, sharp, graceful.
"I'm Captain Meher Aamir," she said. "I believe you know my brother, Major Zayan."
Hana's breath caught. "You're… his sister?"
"Yes. And I'm here because he asked me to find you if anything happened."
Her voice was steady. Too steady.
"Wait," Hana said. "What do you mean 'if anything happened'?"
Meher handed over a sealed file.
"He's missing."
The world tilted.
"No," Hana whispered, her knees buckling. "No, no, no…"
