Chapter 9: Aftermath
Scene 1: What Remains
Location: Camp Khidmat – Morning After the Attack
The sky was gray, the sun muted behind thick clouds of smoke.
What had once been the clinic was now rubble. The generator crackled. A faint radio played a broken song—something about love and war, irony thick in the air.
Hana moved slowly, like a ghost. Her clothes were torn, arms bruised, and her heart? Unrecognizable.
She looked around at the tents—some burned, some shredded, some eerily untouched.
They had survived.
But survival wasn't peace.
It was pain with a heartbeat.
Scene 2: The Dead and the Saved
Location: Memorial Wall
Rows of names were being etched on a temporary metal wall. Soldiers stood in silence. Doctors wept. Children clutched each other.
Hana stood still as Zayan approached.
She didn't look at him.
He didn't say anything.
Instead, he placed a single white flower beneath the name Captain Ibrahim – Surgeon, Humanitarian, Friend.
She whispered, "He died saving a child. Right in front of me."
Zayan swallowed hard. "He saved more lives than war could take."
Their fingers brushed.
And though they didn't speak love out loud, it echoed between them—soft, broken, and real.
Scene 3: The Letter
Location: Zayan's Tent
That night, a sealed envelope sat on Zayan's cot. The official stamp of command—red and final.
He opened it, hands trembling.
Transfer Order: Major Zayan AamirYou are hereby reassigned to Division Alpha – International Recon Unit. Deployment: Classified. Immediate effect.
He dropped the letter.
Leaving? Now?
He turned as Hana entered.
"I heard," she said.
"I didn't ask for it," he replied, defensive.
"I know."
"Then say something," he begged.
She stepped closer. "Don't leave like this."
"I don't want to," he said, voice breaking. "But I'm a soldier, Hana."
"I know that, too."
Silence.
Then her words, barely above a whisper: "Do you love me?"
Zayan's breath caught.
"Yes," he said. "God help me, I do."
She kissed him—not with passion, but with desperation. The kind that tastes like goodbyes.
When they pulled apart, her eyes glistened.
"Then come back," she said.
"I swear I will," he whispered. "Even if the stars fall."
Scene 4: The Departure
Location: Helipad – 04:00 AM
The chopper blades thundered. Soldiers boarded one by one.
Zayan stood at the door, scanning the crowd.
Hana appeared last, wearing a long scarf over her shoulders, eyes full of fire.
He walked toward her, one last time.
They didn't speak.
Their foreheads touched.
Time held its breath.
Then he turned, boarded, and disappeared into the sky.
Hana stood watching, hand pressed to her chest, whispering,
"Come back to me."
