Chapter 11: Chapter 10 Seiji's Plan 3
Near The Garrison Branch HQ
--
Trost District –
In the streets, Merchants and Vendors had begun to close up as the sun set over the city, soon to welcome a bustling nightlife.
In Trost, the land area around The Garrison HQ was highly sought after. Not for its wealth but its proximity. Frequent patrols, providing a higher level of security than the parts of town farther out.
At the very least, people here didn't have to always be on guard against getting kidnapped by Slave Traders.
Near the Garrison entrance, Two Merchants were closing up shop for the day.
Tossing the newspaper aside that recorded the recent Failure of the Survey Corps, one sighed in boredom.
"Nothing ever happens around here".
His companion, a bald, middle-aged man, snorted. "What more could you be looking for? The Colossal Titan?"
The younger man chuckled—until his father-in-law's expression darkened.
"Hmph! Maybe you should've joined the Survey Corps. Fed yourself to the Titans before you married my daughter."
The young man winced, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. "I… I didn't mean—"
It happened then.
BOOM!
A loud explosion resounded throughout the streets, startling everyone who heard it.
Both men froze, then turned their gazes back to see an explosion had occurred on the upper floors of The Garrison Branch.
Instantly, their eyes went wide in disbelief.
"Oh my …".
The explosion wasn't large. Barely contained to a single area.
Still, it instantly drew attention. A woman dropped her basket, apples rolling across the pavement.
"The Garrison? It's on Fire".
Loud murmurs followed as people pointed and discussed.
The packing Civilians all stopped whatever they were doing. Gathering a crowd, they all observed the Garrison Branch HQ, murmuring among themselves.
"Great. Just what the hell are these Idiots doing now?"
Immediately, a citizen cursed under his breath, just loud enough for those beside him to hear.
"The Garrison is at it again".
"Who knows. Perhaps someone accidentally set something on fire".
"It's probably some kind of safety drill".
The male who spoke watched as the Garrison soldiers guarding the gate looked at the explosion and ran into the building. Their expressions clearly alarmed.
"… That doesn't look like a drill. If it is, though, these guys are really good actors".
----
Inside The Building,
---
Heavy boots pounded against the stone floor as a squad of Garrison soldiers sprinted through the dimly lit halls of the branch HQ, the scent of smoke thick in the air.
"Captain, what's happening?" one soldier asked, breathless, struggling to match the pace of their leader at the forefront.
"I don't know," the captain admitted, his jaw tight.
The soldiers exchanged uncertain glances as they ran. The explosion had rocked the building mere minutes ago, yet no one had given an official order. Whatever was happening, it wasn't a drill.
"Could it be an accident?" another soldier suggested.
The captain exhaled sharply.
"No. The explosion came from the Archive Room—a secured area. If something detonated there, it wasn't by chance."
The Garrison Branch HQ was a place for Garrison soldiers to refill their empty Maneuver gear tanks. Hence, it had a large area dedicated to doing so.
But that was on the east wing. The explosion happened in the West wing. In that direction, there was nothing to accidentally blow up. Meaning, this had been premeditated.
The realization sank in. The soldiers glanced at each other uneasily.
"… From the looks of it," the captain continued, voice grim, "the Garrison is under attack."
"What?!" someone blurted.
The Trost Garrison Branch had at least a thousand stationed personnel.
Minus the number out on patrols, assignments and guarding the walls, a minimum of a hundred would still be left. Not to mention, the Garrison Regiment was an official Government Department.
Not even the most suicidal gangs in the Underground within Wall Sheena would be dumb enough to attack it.
No one. Which begs the question,
"But… who would be stupid enough to do such a thing?"
"I don't know. I just hope this is one big fiasco".
The leader thought, a bad premonition welling up within him.
They rounded the next bend—
And stopped.
Every soldier froze in place, eyes going wide with horror.
"…. By the Walls …." The hallway was filled with bodies.
From one end of the corridor to the other, dozens of Garrison members lay sprawled across the floor, unconscious.
Some twitched, groaning weakly. Others lay motionless, only the slow rise and fall of their chests proving they were alive.
"…. It seems, I was right".
The silence was broken by the Captain. "… The Garrison Regiment is under attack …".
Gulp!
One gulped a mouthful of saliva.
The number of soldiers sprawled more than tripled their numbers.
"… My god".
"… But, who could have …".
It happened then—
CRASH!
A soldier flew into view from the next bend at the end of the corridor. His body hit the wall hard, the impact sending a sickening echo through the halls. He slumped to the ground, out cold.
Instantly, everyone's faces changed drastically.
"Arm yourselves". The leader roared. "Prepare to face the enemy". The squad tensed, hands instinctively reaching for their weapons.
"..".
It was silent at first. Then,
Then—footsteps.
Slow, steady, unhurried.
A figure emerged from the hallway. Dark hair, fair skin, dark clothing.
'… A … kid?'
The squad captain was stunned, certainly not alone in his shock.
"Is that … The Enemy?"
"... It's just a kid".
"Is he alone?"
"Impossible …. how do you explain all this?"
Everyone else shared the same surprise. That surprise heightened when the looked in their direction.
No other reason, just the color of his eyes. Never before had they seen something similar.
"...".
A strange, almost suffocating silence filled the hallway. With the Garrison soldiers not knowing how to react.
".... More of you, huh? …". Eventually, the silence was broken by the intruder.
His silhouette cut an imposing figure against the dim light granted by the sun outside the windows. Cloaked in shadow, his eyes burned red—an unnatural glow in the darkness.
That seemed to snap them out of the trance.
"... Hey, kid. Who the …". One spoke immediately. Drawing his blade forward in a threatening posture, when …
It was a blur. Nothing any of them could register with their eyesight.
One moment, he was nearly sixteen meters across the hall. In the next, he was right before them.
'What the …'.
BANG!
The soldier who spoke felt his stomach lurch. Impacted by a strong force, his feet left the ground, slamming into the wall two and half meters behind him.
'… How did he? …'.
Everything went black right after.
"I apologize, …".
The kick landed on another.
BANG! ".... but it's your turn".
The voice fell into the ears of the rest of them. The captain went wide-eyed, and felt something sweep his legs before he could utter a word.
Then a leg slamming him deep into the pavement.
His back hit the floor, The ground under him cracked a bit. It hurt like hell.
A black shadow flashed through the rest of them. Punches landing were they should, sweeping them in all directions.
It was barely ten seconds. Just like the others.
----
Seiji's POV
----
The last one fell. A female soldier. His hand wasn't the least bit lighter.
In his last life, he was a staunch believer in feminism.
What a man can bear, a woman can bear as well.
'… The eight squad'. The young Uchiha thought. '... Or is it a group? Not everyone I attacked should be alongside their original squad ... Why am I thinking of this anyway? ...'.
It had been five minutes since he attacked the Garrison.
Since the female officer sounded the alarm, he had lost count of how many soldiers he had beaten up.
Rico Brzenska. A familiar attack on Titan character.
In the anime, her first appearance was alongside Kitz Woerman when they nearly killed Eren, Mikasa and Armin.
Nearly blasting their only hope for survival to smithereens. Luckily, Eren changed to the Attack Titan Form and blocked the shell.
Subsequently, Armin begged and Pixis arrived in time to stop Kitz from dooming them all to destruction.
Seiji remembered the anime clearly. The actions of The Garrison soldiers who had surrounded Eren's group, driven by fear and horror was something Seiji had seen before.
It was the same thing the Konoha Elders Council felt towards the Uchiha clan.
Fear, fear of their power. Their potential.
The difference being that the Konoha council understood what the Uchiha could do.
The Garrison Soldiers, however, knew nothing when they tried to kill Eren, their actions driven purely by fear.
Fear from knowledge or Fear from Ignorance.
In direct comparison, Seiji couldn't decide which one was worse. Nevertheless, he had already been forced to run away from the Ninja world due to the former.
Now? He certainly wasn't going to give any room for the latter.
Human beings naturally feared what they didn't understand. Preferring to destroy it if they saw it as a threat.
In the Court Farce in Season 1, Eren could tolerate being beaten by Levi all to dampen their fear towards him.
During his last life, Seiji had simulated himself in the same scenario and came to the same conclusion.
Nine times out of Ten. Even if he was killed by Levi later, everyone else in that building would pave the road to the underworld first as compensation.
Now, he was actually here. But not as Eren but as an Uchiha with a Mangekyo Sharingan.
If a similar scenario emerged, he would undoubtedly, wipe out Paradis Island's military system before the Titans could get the chance.
As despite having past life memories, they had quite limited sway over his new one. At best, he wasn't as stuck up and arrogant as most Uchiha, but the pride that came with his identity and status as a warrior couldn't be diluted with merely three months of memory awakening.
This wasn't a novel, and he was no MC who would endure getting harassed for the "Greater Good Of Humanity".
The execution scene in that anime was the driving force leading him to do exactly what he was doing this instant.
Today, he would single-handedly defeat every soldier in the Branch Garrison Regiment. To make sure these idiots wouldn't have the will to even point a sword at him the next time they met.
Of course, he didn't kill anyone. That would be crossing the line. At worst, most of them would spend several months in bed.
It couldn't be helped.
Too many Chinese Web novels warned him not to take any chances. And Seiji wasn't going to bet on their reaction once they saw what he could do.
Ultimately, it was better to beat them now with said abilities. To avoid future drama and protect these Idiots from provoking him, so he wouldn't kill them in return.
'… I'm a really good person. Doing all this strenuous work, to save the lives of people like Kitz …'.
He thought as a paper bomb (Detonating Talisman) appeared in his hands.
Following which, he threw it at the nearby wall.
----
Outside, Garrison Square
A cluster of soldiers gathered in the Garrison Square, some shifting nervously while others exchanged theories about the sudden alarm and explosion. The lingering tension in the air made even the most battle-hardened among them wary.
"What's going on?" a young recruit asked. "Is it a Titan attack?"
"Inside the city?" a veteran scoffed. "Use your damn head. That explosion came from HQ. No way it's Titans."
"Alright, but … What does it mean?"
At that moment, the conversation was interrupted. From the distance, several sets of grappling hooks bit into the building's ledge, metal grinding against concrete as taut wires snapped under tension.
The air was sliced apart by the sharp whiz of high-tension cables.
Everyone looked up. Following which, a group of soldiers swung into the square on ODM gear.
"..... I saw the explosion from a distance. What happened?"
"Uh, Captain Dietrich". Like Rico, a squad Captain in the Garrison.
Ian Dietrich.
"Um, we're not sure Captain. Last we heard, there was an explosion in the West wing. Several squads have been sent to …".
"I'll tell you what happened". A voice came in at that moment, interrupting the soldier's report.
Ian turned his gaze.
"Rico? What happened?"
The woman ignored him but walked over, clutching her stomach. Her face carried solemnity.
"The Garrison has been attacked".
"What?"
"I know. It's hard to believe, but I was there. I saw the attacker. And after two minutes without response .".
At this point, she turns her gaze to the entrance of the building.
"... I'm pretty sure none of the soldiers sent in there are coming back out. There have been no official orders, and the only Captain still in the building is inside".
Ian understood. Currently, they were the two highest-ranking officers.
Until someone of a higher rank arrived, they were responsible for whatever happened next.
"Tch." Ian frowned deeply. "This is bad. If HQ has been attacked, we need reinforcements." He turned to a nearby soldier. "Get to Erwin Smith and Commander Pixis. Tell them the Trost Garrison has been compromised."
"Yes, sir!" The soldier saluted before jetting off with his maneuver gear.
Ian watched him leave, then turned to the rest of the soldiers. "The Garrison is compromised. We have an intruder in the base".
"What?" The explanation stunned everyone listening.
"An intruder? We've never had one of those, have we?"
"None that I recall. But this one's got balls". One chuckled.
In response to their discussions, Ian hushed them. "Everyone head in Teams of Three. Instantly sound the alarm the moment you …".
BOOM! It was another blast.
The sound tore through the square as another explosion erupted from the building.
The shockwave blasted outward, sending debris, smoke, and dust billowing into the air.
It wasn't large, just like the last one, with its only damage being to destroy the area around its explosion.
Everyone looked up. It was a hole in the wall, obscured by smoke and dust.
When the dust cleared, the remnants of a shattered wall came into view, and standing in the opening—his figure framed by the moonlight—was a boy.
'It's him'.
It happened then.
Before they could process their next move, the boy's body suddenly disappeared.
From the second floor to the ground in a split second.
The next, A rush of wind. A flicker of motion.
BANG!
A soldier went flying backward, his body flipping through the air before crashing into a stack of supply crates.
BANG!
Another was struck in the gut, crumpling to the ground, unconscious before he even hit the pavement.
The square descended into chaos.
