Wizard: I Can Refine Everything

Chapter 2: The Mayflies' Offensive

Boom!

The ghostly blue fireball exploded in the sky, scattering ashes formed from the corpses of the Galaxy Mayflies to the ground.

In the sky, the Mayfly battle group loomed like dark clouds over the battleground. Opposing them was a fleet of metallic spheres hovering in the air.

These metallic spheres varied in size, with the largest having a diameter of about two meters and the smallest roughly the size of a human head. The spheres were incredibly durable, and through Alchemy Enchantment, they could even withstand the united ray attacks of Second Level Mayfly battle groups.

In the sky, the larger spheres commanded the smaller ones, struggling to resist the Mayfly battle group's assault.

Though there were numerous War Fortresses on land, wielding fierce anti-air firepower, these fortresses were not solely focused on aerial defense, as they had their own enemies to contend with.

On the vast plains, hundreds of thousands of Giant Insects launched an assault toward the fortress group.

The smallest of these insects were the size of elephants, covered in purple-red shells all over. Yet their most notable feature was undoubtedly the sturdy half-meter-long horn at their front.

These subspecies of Mayflies were collectively termed Horned Mayflies by the Wizards. Regardless of structural differences, their ultimate goal was to rely on that horn to destroy the Wizards' War Fortresses.

In their war with the Wizards, the Galaxy Mayflies continuously learned. However, after billions of Mayflies were drained by the Wizards' War Fortresses, they finally discovered the fortresses' weaknesses, or rather, their relative weaknesses.

The War Fortresses excelled at defending against Energy and Elemental attacks, but their resistance to Physical attacks was relatively weaker.

Thus, the Galaxy Mayflies birthed the Horned Insects specifically aimed at the fortress groups.

The Horned Insects boasted extremely developed and efficient muscles; even newborn Horned Insects could surpass fully grown wild oxen in strength. As adults, these Horned Insects possessed strength rivaling the most powerful Rocky Magic Elephants under the Mayflies.

Their horns on the head held Demon-breaking properties, enabling them to easily shatter the Wizards' War Fortress enchantments through high-speed collision.

Moreover, these Horned Insects contained a unique vocal organ. After breaking the fortresses' enchantments, the Horned Mayflies would use sound wave resonance to further damage the fortresses' overall structure.

It was bluntly said that these Horned Mayflies were war machines designed specifically for War Fortresses.

To counter these insects, the Wizards revamped the building formulas of the War Fortresses. But this only slowed the Horned Mayflies' fortress destruction slightly. After testing, the Wizards decided to revert to the original formula and revise the War Fortresses' structure.

Grant a War Fortress more firepower.

As long as they destroyed all the Horned Mayflies before they approached the fortress, no matter how formidable the Horned Mayflies were, they were useless against the War Fortresses.

Alchemy Gun Towers within the War Fortresses continuously emitted ghostly blue fireballs, these fireballs drawing arcs as they descended from the sky, exploding into fireworks amidst the insect swarm.

But the insect swarm never halted.

Before the fortress group lay hundreds of remnants from War Fortresses already destroyed.

This wasn't the first time they were under siege; over the past month, they had suffered multiple onslaughts. And after enduring so many attacks, the fortress group was unable to halt the insect swarm's advance.

The battleground was perilously close to falling.

Buzz——Buzz——

On the battleground Commander's desk, a Communication Crystal Ball glowed red, vibrating continuously.

A hand swiftly picked it up from the desk, placing it beside a mouth with bristly beard.

"This is Elte, Commander of Battleground 32. May we retreat?"

"Zzzz... Headquarters commands, your division is to hold the line at all costs. Repeat, your division... What? Yes, Master."

The broken command stirred a flicker of hope within Elte's heart, staring at the Crystal Ball as if to pressure the headquarters' emissary through it.

"Headquarters commands, previous order revoked. Your division is allowed to retreat. Repeat, your division is allowed to retreat. Acknowledge, please respond."

Elte gazed at the Crystal Ball, slowly exhaling a foul breath.

"Battleground 32 acknowledges. My division will proceed to withdraw immediately. End."

Communication ended, Elte pondered the recent turn of events, his mind swirling with thoughts.

"Order revoked... What exactly happened at headquarters?"

...

At headquarters, a tall figure sat at the former Great Wizard of World Purifying Fire's seat, quietly flipping through documents handed over by others.

Beside him, the acting Commander of the battle zone, a student of the Great Wizard of World Purifying Fire, was packing his personal belongings, ready to return to the Wizard World for his vacation.

"Is this all?" The figure reviewing documents finished reading the last page and turned to the old Wizard beside him.

The old Wizard respectfully replied, "Master Richard, this is all the information."

"This is all..." Richard glanced at the documents in his hand, sighing wearily.

"The situation is worse than I imagined."

World 03245, also known as Wilderness World.

This is a small world balanced by the Four Elements, named Wilderness World by the Great Wizard who conquered it due to its flat terrain and lack of mountains.

According to the data Richard obtained from the database, there should be four million in the Wizard Army here. But upon arrival, Richard found that the four million figure was quite inconsistent with reality.

According to the General Command statistics, there are only three and a half million in the Wizard Army. And this number is continuously decreasing.

This was why Richard modified the order earlier, instructing all Wizards to retreat from position thirty-two.

To prioritize land over people at this time is a pure path to self-destruction. Еnjоying thе stоry? Find mоrе аt МV-LЕМРYR.

Due to Wilderness World having no special minerals and not being a Hub World, both civilizations have only one World Master stationed.

In the previous battle, the King of Mayfly launched a major offensive on the Mayfly side, attempting to execute the Great Wizard of World Purifying Fire using the Mayfly Sacrifice Rule and completely driving the Wizards out of the world.

But because of the existence of the Wizard Equal Exchange Rules, the King of Mayfly was taken down in a mutual destruction with the Great Wizard of World Purifying Fire.

Thus, before Richard's arrival, theoretically neither side of the war has a World Master stationed.

"If Jimmy's battle data aren't wrong, the Galaxy Mayfly's cross-dimensional transmission device efficiency isn't much superior to that of the Wizards."

In the war with the Wizards, the technology of the Galaxy Mayflies kept advancing. This immature wormhole technology of the Galaxy Mayfly saw massive improvement after acquiring the Wizard's Portal.

Though in terms of construction difficulty and material throughput, wormhole technology remains inferior to teleportation gate technology, the time consumed for individual travel is nearly identical.

"Have the Mayflies been attacking frequently lately?" Richard suddenly asked the old Wizard beside him.

"Yes, Commander, the insects have been attacking ferociously recently."

"Then it matches up." Richard muttered to himself.

"These Mayflies are testing if our Great Wizard has arrived."

...

On the other side of the battlefield.

The massive Expedition Nest towers on the horizon like a black mountain peak.

Countless Mayflies come and go on the peak, continuously delivering various nutrients and information to this grand structure.

Inside the Expedition Nest, a large black Mayfly floats in the air. This Mayfly is nearly three meters long, which, barring special subspecies, is considered a giant among Mayflies.

He has three pairs of insect wings, eight segmented limbs, and antennae on his head resembling stiff hair. At the end of his tail, four slender and flexible tail threads extend.

He has a pair of red compound eyes, and at this moment, these blood-stained eyes are full of contemplation.

"Retreat...these Wizards have actually retreated."

In the reports from the front line, his recently organized multiple attacks have all resulted in success.

Upon realizing they were outmatched, the Wizards did not stubbornly hold out as before, rallying other positions and elite forces for reinforcements. Instead, they opted to abandon the positions, retreating en masse.

This combat style, compared to the previous Wizard combat style, is not identical, but drastically different.

"It seems a new Commander has indeed arrived."

The change in combat style allows him to almost ascertain that the Wizards' Great Wizard has arrived on the scene. Moreover, he can also determine that this newly arrived Great Wizard is not someone easy to deal with.

Wilderness World is a barren world; after many years of mining, the Magic Stone Veins have been exploited to three-fifths. And since the war started, the resources in this world have been mined by the Alchemy Army to nine-tenths.

The remaining resources are not beyond the capacity of the Alchemy Army to mine, but rather because those areas were already occupied by the Mayflies at the time.

Thus, the vast tracts of land in this world are actually of little use.

The Wizards only need to protect the Teleportation Gate, using the Fortress to gradually consume the Mayflies' living forces.

This world holds little value, but if the consumption is high enough, even the Mayflies will cease their attacks.

However, according to the data, the previous Commander of this world did not view things this way. The previous Commander nearly refused to yield an inch in the last war, and it was precisely this mindset that prompted the previous King of Mayfly to contemplate driving the Wizards completely out of this world.

Everyone knows what happened later.

The two mutually destroyed each other, and both sides of the war welcomed their new Commander.

After a moment's thought, the black Mayfly came to the map and began to issue new orders.

"114, 115 two Third Level and a Half battle groups strike E3 position of the enemy. 142, 145, 154, 164, four Third Level and a Half battle groups make a strong attack on enemy positions E51 and 53. 32, 45, 68, 97 four Third Level and a Half battle groups conduct pinning actions, blocking reinforcements on E56 and 52."

He wants to retreat, but I won't let him retreat. Spread the battlefield and let me see how many men he still has."
