Wizard: I Can Refine Everything

Chapter 3: Heroic Spirit Army

Although, before participating in the war, Richard had already simulated many battles. From simple ones to dangerous ones, from Elemental Balanced World to Element Imbalance World, he had "seen" them all.

But once he got to the battlefield and looked at the markers on the map representing human lives, Richard still felt a tinge of nervousness in his heart.

"Chief Commander, the group of Fortress 43 has fully evacuated."

Beside the map, an old Wizard reported this to Richard, who was observing the map.

"Hmm. I know."

After speaking, Richard marked a cross at the location of Fortress Group 43 on the map. On this map, many such marks had already been made, forming a continuous area.

Contrary to what the King of Mayfly thought, Richard retracting the line wasn't to guard the Teleportation Gate and wait for the Mayfly to court death on their own.

His retreat had a simple purpose: to preserve the living forces and reorganize and retrain these wizards.

Although the Wilderness World held no strategic value and a decisive victory for either side wouldn't affect the war's situation, it's precisely for this reason that Richard intended to experiment with his ideas.

A long time ago, Richard conceived the idea of a mixed-species corps.

By mixing Wizards with native creatures, it could compensate for the insufficient number of Wizards and the incomplete utilization of Energy.

Defining Wizards merely as Shaping Magic gun turrets was a waste, especially when native creatures, with Alchemy Magic Equipment, could unleash attacks not inferior to the Magic Concentrated Fire of the White Wizard Army.

In Richard's view, Wizards should be positioned as accompanying priests. During war, Wizards would provide various augmentations to the team, and when fighting was necessary, they could also unleash considerable combat power.

But this idea was based on Wizards like Richard himself, "old Wizards," and Richard doubted whether the newly trained Wizards had such capabilities.

Luckily, the Wilderness World was an unimportant world, and fortunately, Richard also had the fearless Heroic Spirit Army.

Even if his idea failed, it wouldn't impact the war situation, nor would it personally affect him.

Anyway, according to the data, the Day of the End was already set up. If it couldn't be defended, they would retreat and blow up this world.

Looking at the red crosses on the map, Richard muttered to himself, "If the opponent is smart, he will definitely stretch the front line, and if he's a bit smarter, he would certainly both surround and stretch the front line."

On the map, the occupied territories of Wizards and the Galaxy Mayfly, when magnified, looked like a big mouth biting a ball.

But unfortunately, the Wizards were that big mouth.

If the Wizards had enough troops, they might be able to set off from both sides and envelop the Galaxy Mayfly in a big dumpling. But unfortunately, the Wizards' troops were insufficient even to maintain the front.

So, the protruding parts on both wings had to retreat.

"So now he will probably attack at this, this location."

Saying this, Richard pointed at the weak points on both sides of the large mouth. Then he moved his finger to the center.

"Here, he might force an attack, and whether to stretch the line or delay forces, both would be good choices."

On the battlefield, the side with more manpower and resources tends to have more options and can force opponents into the choices they want.

If relying only on the leftover forces from the previous commander, losing the seven hundred thousand Wizards in the North would seem almost inevitable in this situation.

Unless Richard intervened, the Wizards simply didn't have enough troops to provide reinforcement.

But if Richard intervened, the war would immediately escalate. As a Great Wizard who had been in the Five Rings for only a few decades, Richard was unwilling to show himself openly.

The King of Mayfly was not a native; even if he could summon reinforcements, being a bit cautious was always wise.

"Fortunately, I still have enough troops at hand; otherwise, it would really be difficult to manage."

While speaking, Richard's figure suddenly vanished, and when he reappeared, he was in the plaza outside the command post.

As the defending side, although the Wizards held air superiority in the Star Realm, the command headquarters was still constructed safely underground. Important facilities including Teleportation Gates, warehouses, and the command post were all built underground.

On the plaza, vehicle convoys transporting supplies came and went busily. Wild Beastmen, Wizards, Synthetic Beasts, and some minor Clans diligently worked in a well-ordered manner.

"Although there are some strategic issues, the previous one was indeed adept in management." Richard muttered to himself.

Arriving at the broadcast room, Richard spoke into the microphone: "Attention everyone, attention everyone. All staff on the plaza, please stop working and temporarily leave the plaza with your tools. I repeat, all staff on the plaza, please stop working and temporarily leave the plaza with your tools."

The orders from the broadcast left everyone on the plaza stunned, puzzled by such instructions. But what the broadcast said must be genuine, so these staff members just followed accordingly.

Ten minutes later the plaza was cleared, leaving only wheel tracks from the AAirship terminal.

Richard nodded in satisfaction, and soon, the Holy Light began to emanate from him. He slowly ascended into the sky like the rising sun in the morning.

Under the Holy Light, one by one, Heroic Spirit Warriors gradually "emerged" from the Holy Light. Within moments, nearly five hundred thousand Heroic Spirit Army had appeared.

Richard slowly descended from the sky, returning to the command post. Naturally, the numerous Wizards in the command post had already noticed the grand scene orchestrated by their chief commander.

"Sir, what are these?" an old wizard stepped forward and asked.

"The Legion," Richard replied calmly. "Assign them numbers, equip them with weapons and gear... No, I estimate our stock won't be sufficient."

"Not enough?" the old wizard was surprised. "Sir, I think you must have mistaken the data; our warehouse can at least equip five million clans."

"Yes, I know," Richard nodded calmly. "But I have twenty million of such soldiers."

"...Twenty million?"

The old wizard was somewhat in disbelief; he was a genuinely old wizard, having lived nearly five thousand years, even older than Richard.

He considered himself knowledgeable and had seen various miraculous abilities. Even the methods of a great wizard amazed him.

But now, he was at a loss for words.

He believed Richard wasn't lying to him, so Richard truly had the capability to conjure a two-million-strong legion. Even if these twenty million were cannon fodder, just manifesting a legion of that size from thin air was enough to overturn his understanding.

"Let the logistics issue another five million in equipment... No, I'll give you a list later; make sure you request the items on it promptly.

Additionally, inform the 94th and 96th fort groups at the northern salient connection to be prepared for steadfast defense."

"Yes, Commander General."

"By the way, you've been reporting the news recently, what is your name?"

"Abel Frederick."

"Very well, Abel, you will be my secretary from now on."

"Yes, Commander General."

Under Abel's arrangement, the numbering of the Heroic Spirit Army was quickly completed, and their equipment was swiftly replenished. The warriors of the Heroic Spirit Army, who had used wizard civilization's alchemy weapons in the world of the Four-Eyed People, were naturally familiar with using them again now.

Richard approached the Legion Commander of the Heroic Spirit Army to inquire whether they lacked any handy equipment.

The Goblin Army expressed hope to acquire more Annihilation Hand Grenades, while the Werewolf Army wished to use Dao Artifact Long Swords.

Although the wizard civilization's alchemy weapons had evolved over countless generations due to years of war, those changes were primarily for the wizards. Among the clans, only the Wild Beastmen's equipment would iterate alongside the wizards', with the remaining clans having equipment that might not change for a century.

Therefore, in terms of equipment choice, gear produced by goblins and the Immortal Country was, in some respects, superior to wizard equipment.

Upon receiving the requests, Richard completed the materials list and handed it to the battlefield logistics department, instructing them to transfer it to the logistics world.

Once this was completed, the arrangements for the Heroic Spirit Army were laid out before Richard.

According to the staff department's suggestion, these Heroic Spirit Army units should be dispersed among various fortress groups to assist the wizards in defense duties. Although the current manpower of wizards was not as stretched due to the narrowed defensive perimeter, this was relative.

Despite the clans, Synthetic Beasts, and even Alien Slaves outnumbering the wizards, their loss ratio was significantly higher. The emergence of the Heroic Spirit Army could effectively fill this gap.

However, Richard personally believed that these army units should be centralized and take the initiative to annihilate the attacking Mayflies.

Watching enemy forces crash against fortresses might be satisfying, but defense meant losing the initiative on the battlefield. Once the Mayflies concentrated their forces, they would be forced to respond, exposing even greater vulnerabilities.

Purely defensive actions would only lead to gradual failure, and only by taking the initiative could they turn the tide of the battlefield.

Both parties had valid points, but ultimately Richard, as the Chief Commander, overruled the senior wizards of the staff department.

Though often jestingly called the external brain of the great wizard by many wizards, the staff department was supposed to help the great wizard abandon foolish decisions. However, if the Chief Commander insisted on a certain action, the staff department could only comply.

Soon, the legion was mobilized.

Following Richard's intent, the Heroic Spirit Army began mixed training with the Wizard Army. Although the Heroic Spirit Army internally also had priests, these priests served no major purpose for them.

The priests' divine arts could disperse the army's fears, allowing soldiers to remain calm, even fervent. Additionally, they could provide minor healing, like stopping bleeding or reducing pain slightly.

Yet, for someone to become a soldier in the Heroic Spirit Army, unless faced with influence from the rules, they would not experience fear. Their bodies might bleed, but it was just a simulated illusion, and the pain was weaker than when they were mere mortals.

To kill a soldier from the Heroic Spirit Army, structural damage was needed. For example, cutting a soldier in half, smashing them to pieces with a hammer, or using a powerful soul attack to tear their soul apart.

Otherwise, even without a head or with their heart removed, the Heroic Spirit Army could fight like undead creatures.

The enhancement provided by the wizards was different.

Using elemental witchcraft, wizards augmented soldiers with elemental protection; wind elements made their bodies lighter, earth elements rendered their attacks heavier, and fire elements allowed their attacks to carry elemental impacts.

Additionally, mind links could make the Heroic Spirit Army's coordination even more intimate. During squad operations, the wizards' reconnaissance magic was far superior to conventional instruments.

For the Heroic Spirit Army, wizards were more practical than priests.
