Chapter 210: Chapter 210: Equipment Upgrade, Faith Armor
The Bone Armor Wizard glanced at him.
"Obviously, his opponent is superior in both physique and energy control. If he doesn't win, then it's a surprise."
After speaking, the Bone Armor Wizard glanced at Richard and casually said, "I bet this fight will end in ten moves."
The Giant Wizard shook his head. "Too fast. Unless they know each other very well, it'll at least take fifty moves to decide the outcome.
I've seen that bone guy fight; he's not weak."
"To me, Richard will probably finish this in three moves."
A voice suddenly came from behind the two wizards. They turned around and saw Jimmy holding a bottle of wine, leisurely drinking.
"Master, why did you arrange such a battle?" the Giant Wizard asked.
Galon Club usually arranges battles of equal strength to help its members improve.
"Why?" Jimmy took a sip of his wine. "Haas is a bit too rash. I'm using this chance to wake him up.
These two have fought ten times already. Richard has been improving, while Haas has stayed stagnant.
But when they first fought, Richard was no match for Haas."
Jimmy squinted at the arena, then said, "It's starting."
On the arena, the two veteran opponents immediately threw aside any testing and went all-out from the beginning.
A dark glow enveloped Haas, and his speed increased to the point where even Richard's Dragon Eye could barely keep up with his movements. His bone claws, now covered in runes, were sharp enough to tear through space.
However, Richard showed no sign of panic. In fact, he even sighed inwardly.
"Same move as last time. You haven't made any progress at all."
Richard closed his eyes, and his muscles and magical energy immediately merged.
In the next instant, Richard sidestepped the bone claws that came from behind, and his right fist lightly collided forward.
Breaking Mountain Fist.
Boom!
Haas' body flew backward, and the bone armor on his arm shattered into pieces.
"That's it."
Richard said lightly as he looked at Haas.
Haas stood up from the ground, his face full of disbelief. He looked at Richard, then glanced at his broken arm, confusion in his eyes.
"How did you see through my attack?"
"Because of the flaw in your move. Your combat habits are already clear to him."
Jimmy flew down to the arena and waved his hand. The debris and dust from the battle quickly gathered into a pile.
"Your move is fast, but the speed makes it hard for you to control the direction, greatly reducing its flexibility. And your fighting habits always involve sneak attacks, with your dominant hand being the right one. Richard has fought you ten times—I'm sure he has noticed these details."
Jimmy looked at Richard, who nodded slightly.
"That's right."
Jimmy downed the rest of his wine and turned to Haas.
"Haas, when you two first started fighting, the gap between you wasn't that big. You were even at an advantage at the time. But now, you're not on the same level anymore."
Haas' face turned red at Jimmy's words.
But what could he say? The one speaking was Jimmy, a peak third-ring wizard. His wisdom and experience far surpassed Haas's.
Haas lowered his head slightly, a mix of emotions surging inside him.
Jimmy walked over to him and patted his back. "Haas, battles are never simple. Keep working hard, kid."
...
After returning from the arena, Richard stopped by the commercial district to buy more alchemy materials. These past few years, he had been planning to upgrade his equipment. Although being a technical advisor might not sound like a front-line fighter, data collection still required being on the battlefield.
Back at the wizard tower, Richard took out his magic staff, which had been fused with refined gold.
Refined gold was one of the highest-quality alchemy materials, and there were countless alloy formulas for it in the wizarding world. Nearly every alchemy wizard had their own recipe.
Richard was planning to use a formula from a secret text.
He intended to use the refined gold to create a set of alloyed inner armor. The alloy made with this formula had excellent defensive properties against various types of attacks.
If all went well, Richard would have some refined gold left over to add to his staff.
Richard separated the parts of the staff that were infused with refined gold.
Materials: Refined Gold Alloy
Extractable Material: Refined Gold
Extraction Cost: 80,000 Mana
With the Miracle Furnace in hand, Richard could refine the refined gold without any loss.
After spending 80,000 mana, Richard obtained a block of refined gold the size of a human head.
But this was just the first step.
The alloy required precise ratios, especially for the multi-metal alloy Richard was making. Each material's proportion had to be extremely accurate.
For this, Richard purchased and crafted an entire set of refining tools.
It took him an entire month to prepare.
With the tools ready, Richard began refining the alloy. As various materials melted and fused in the furnace, a new alloy was born.
The black gold, after refining, took on a silvery-white color, and if held up to light, a faint golden hue could be seen.
This alloy had high resistance to both elemental and physical attacks, especially physical ones.
Richard tested it slightly, and found that when the alloy was three millimeters thick, it could resist piercing damage of up to 300 energy units. If Richard enchanted it, this number would increase by about 50%, making it able to withstand 450 energy units.
The only downside was that the material lacked energy-absorbing properties. When faced with blunt force damage, it performed less effectively than against piercing damage.
With the alloy complete, Richard moved on to enchant it and arrange various rune arrays.
He was very meticulous about his defensive work, and designing the rune array alone took him three months to perfect.
Once the design was complete, it took him a year and a half to craft the full set of armor.
During this time, aside from meditating and practicing combat techniques at the arena, Richard dedicated all his other time to crafting the armor.
And it was all worth it.
The armor he created was silver-white and resembled a knight's plate armor. Initially, Richard had designed it as a chainmail with armor plates to form the rune array.
The benefit of chainmail was that it was easy to repair—if a plate broke, it could simply be replaced.
But the downside was that it was more difficult and complex to make, and Richard's craftsmanship wasn't sufficient to finish it quickly.
So he opted for the plate armor design.
Though this made repairs and replacing the rune array more complicated, it was faster to make and provided better defense.
Richard lightly tapped the center of the armor. The next moment, the lifeless armor began to move.
Spell: Activate Armor
The armor moved toward Richard and transformed into individual pieces that attached to his body, resembling a magical steel transformation.
Once fully worn, the armor adhered to Richard's body. While a mortal knight would use straps to fasten their armor, Richard only needed a spell.
This set of armor protected almost his entire body, except for his head.
A helmet was unnecessary for wizards, as wearing one would make them even more conspicuous.
After finishing the armor, Richard opened the Rift and entered the secret realm.
Inside the secret realm, the World Mushroom still towered over the landscape, but the entire realm had changed drastically.
In front of the World Mushroom stood a massive fungal statue. The statue depicted Richard, with a crow standing on his shoulder.
This was Richard's divine statue. According to Ulysses, the statue was one of the most important elements of a god.
It not only helped gather faith more efficiently, but could sometimes serve as the god's eyes and ears, or even transform into the god itself.
Behind the statue, atop the World Mushroom, there was now a palace-like model. Inside the palace sat an oddly placed bird's nest.
Ulysses was currently napping in the nest.
Thanks to the World Mushroom's assistance, the realm lord's injuries had healed significantly. His strength had reached the level of a third-tier creature, but this also left him mentally drained.
The self-healing of Ulysses' soul had begun, but for Richard, this wasn't entirely good news.
Richard wasn't worried about Ulysses healing and growing stronger. He knew that it would take at least 2,000 years for Ulysses to fully recover to his peak third-tier form.
However, Richard was concerned about the mental toll. Soul healing drained mental energy, and the more intense the healing, the greater the mental consumption.
At the current rate, Ulysses would eventually enter a deep sleep.
But that was something for the future.
"Ulysses, where's the surprise you promised me?" Richard called out.
Earlier, Ulysses had volunteered to prepare a surprise for Richard after he finished his magical armor.
"Ha, who dares disturb the great lord of the crows!" Ulysses flew out of the nest and yelled loudly.
But when he saw that it was Richard, his tone immediately changed.
"Ha, has your magical armor been finished?"
Richard opened his wizard robe to reveal the armor beneath.
"Yes, it's done. So where's my surprise?"
Ulysses glanced at the armor and then spat out a beam of golden light. The light hovered in front of Richard and gradually transformed into a staff.
"What is this?" Richard asked curiously.
"Ha, remember the faith armor from the insect world? This is made from those things, and I guarantee you'll be satisfied."
Faith armor?
Richard was momentarily stunned before recalling the chosen one from the Insect Nest World. The insect had indeed had a few pieces of faith armor, but at the time, Richard had lacked enough faith power, so he had given those items to Ulysses.
"But we don't have enough faith power to use faith armor, do we?"
Richard glanced at the secret realm. Currently, all the Sacred Tree Spirits were his followers. But even if they all pooled their faith, there were only a few thousand of them. This wouldn't be nearly enough to use the faith armor, which consumed a lot of energy.
"Ha, don't compare my stuff with that insect! The insect may have figured out faith armor on its own, which is commendable, but compared to our gods, its methods are as crude as those of an apprentice!"
"My faith armor doesn't consume much faith power. You can use it freely; there will be plenty of power."
Seeing
Ulysses' confidence, Richard's heart lifted. He quickly asked:
"What does this armor do?"
A trace of smugness flashed in Ulysses' eyes as he answered mysteriously:
"Ha, the effect of this armor is luck."
