Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Golem Modification Plan
In Richard's laboratory.
"This is a symbol I've found recently, and I think applying it to your golem should work perfectly."
Richard, facing Anna, held a loose block of earth engraved with a rune. He injected magic into one of the runes, and after a while, the loose block became solidified.
"What's the use of this?"
Anna stared at Richard's block, not fully understanding.
It's just a block of earth engraved with a rune. While the rune had solidified it, it didn't seem to have any use for her golem.
"Wait, don't rush."
Richard smiled and casually broke off a small piece of the block, damaging one of the runes. Then, he used magic to form some sand.
"Watch carefully; this is the key."
With that, Richard placed the broken block onto the sand. Miraculously, the block began to autonomously absorb the sand, quickly restoring the piece Richard had broken off and even repairing the damaged rune.
"T-this... This is memory-based! And it has some degree of activation!"
Anna gasped in surprise at the block's transformation.
Richard's rune could have a significant effect on her golem. If used properly, her golem could autonomously repair itself by absorbing elements, as long as its core remained intact.
Seeing Anna realize the rune's value, Richard nodded in satisfaction. This rune was the most complex one he had extracted from the Mountain Heart Rune. Initially, he hadn't thought it would have any use and had planned to store it as knowledge.
But now, he had discovered it could be applied here.
"This rune can remember the state of the earth element and repair it to some degree. If paired with the right rune array, it could greatly benefit your golem."
Anna looked at the block in Richard's hand, her thoughts swirling.
It was true—this rune was perfect for her golem. But since it was Richard's discovery, she would need to offer enough valuable knowledge in exchange.
What knowledge could she trade for it?
"Are you thinking about what knowledge to exchange for this rune?" Richard placed the block aside on the experimental table, a slight smile on his face.
Anna nodded, furrowing her brow, uncertain about what knowledge she could offer.
"Don't rush to think. I have a proposal for you."
"A proposal?"
Anna looked at Richard, not sure what her ingenious, sometimes unpredictable, junior would come up with this time.
"For this rune's knowledge, I can offer it to you for free. However, I need you to develop something based on my idea and sign a contract with the Merchant Guild to sell it."
"Something?"
Richard pulled a notebook from his pocket, tearing off a page and quickly sketching something on it.
It was a very simple golem design, mostly a framework with little else.
"Anna, this structure needs to be entirely self-repairable. Do you think it's feasible?"
Anna frowned as she looked at Richard's design.
"I'm not sure, but I can try. What do you need this for?"
Richard smiled slightly, a glint of intelligence in his eyes.
"Of course, to make money. If we can mass-produce this, we'll probably make a fortune."
If this works, the stone golem army from the Enlightenment Era might make a comeback.
...
With Richard's commission and knowledge in hand, Anna left his wizard tower.
Meanwhile, Richard began focusing on his own tasks.
The coliseum on the 11th floor was still packed, and Richard sat in the audience, quietly watching two second-ring wizards battle it out.
Over the years, Richard had continually participated in various activities at the Galon Club, and he had fought many of the club members.
These members, with their extensive experience in physical combat, helped Richard learn something new with every battle. These wizards focused on physical evolution and were more than willing to share their techniques, unlike most wizards who treated such knowledge as secrets.
These small techniques were not hard to master, but if a wizard were left to figure them out on their own, they might need many battles to come to the same conclusions.
At times, Richard felt that the Galon Club was more of what an academic organization should be.
Before long, the battle in the arena ended. The winner was celebrated, while the loser lay quietly on the ground.
Soon, the audience dispersed.
The winner walked over to the loser and helped him up.
During the battle, they were opponents, but once it ended, they returned to being club members.
The club members adhered to the principle of mutual assistance.
"Hey, Richard. You've been coming to the club more often lately. Have you finally realized the joy of the physical evolution path? Are you planning to focus entirely on it?" Jimmy laughed loudly as he noticed Richard.
Richard shrugged. "Master, we wizards are all about flair. How can I walk just one path?"
Jimmy shook his head. "Any path is profound. Walk both paths, and you might find neither lasts."
Then, Jimmy greeted a few familiar wizards. There were a lot of wizards at the arena today, so they would have to wait for their turn.
Jimmy gathered a few wizards together and then sent a few messages via a crystal ball.
Soon, he regretfully told two of the wizards, "You two won't be able to fight today. There are no suitable opponents."
Club battles required opponents of equal strength to truly bring out the best in each wizard.
Hearing this, the two wizards could only leave, and the remaining four wizards could be split into two groups, each having similar strength.
Richard looked toward the opposite side and saw Haas, wearing a black robe, staring at him with intense battle intent.
Since their first fight, Richard and Haas had sparred a few more times, each having their victories.
Richard's Mountain Path was powerful, but Haas was no slouch either. After becoming familiar with Richard's moves, Haas quickly won by relying on his rich battle experience.
In the twenty years since, they had faced off ten times. Haas won six, with one draw, while Richard won four and had one draw.
After pairing the opponents, Jimmy didn't bother fixing up the arena and just started organizing the next battle.
"You two wait here. These two have had reservations with me," Jimmy said to Richard and Haas.
Both Richard and Haas agreed to the arrangement. As black wizards, they instinctively followed Jimmy's orders without question.
Once everything was arranged, the first battle quickly began.
The two wizards fighting were second-ring, but their combat abilities far surpassed Richard and Haas.
As soon as they entered the arena, their overwhelming aura and life force began to radiate.
"Strong!" Richard thought to himself.
Compared to spirit evolution wizards who could only sense energy fluctuations, the strength of physical evolution wizards was far more apparent.
Their immense life force and battle-hardened aura could make even beasts instinctively flee.
The two wizards stood at opposite ends of the arena, silently staring at each other. The air in the arena seemed to freeze, with everyone watching them with bated breath.
A light breeze passed, kicking up a little dust.
In the next moment, the two wizards collided, creating a shockwave that acted like wind blades, even leaving scratches on the arena walls.
In an instant, they completed their bloodline transformations, organizing their moves and charging at full force from the start.
They were old rivals. Winning or losing no longer mattered to them.
They fought to test their progress over the past period.
Boom, boom, boom...
One wizard, covered in bone armor with bone fist gloves, struck out with incredible speed, landing hundreds of punches in the blink of an eye. The other transformed into a three-meter-tall giant, his skin flashing with runes and his eyes sparking with lightning, each movement filled with immense power.
Richard watched from the audience, studying their every move.
"This giant's runes feel similar to battlefield alchemy principles. I should try this later."
"This bone armor wizard's move is great. He seems to be using Feather Fall and Heavy Strike together. I should try that as well."
As Richard observed the two wizards, he absorbed their knowledge.
Meanwhile, Haas, a regular at the arena, was just watching for fun. He enjoyed watching these high-quality battles purely for entertainment.
Before long, with a loud "boom," the two wizards were sent flying.
The bone armor wizard's chest was crushed, with broken bones piercing through his back, while the rune giant also fared badly, with four near-transparent punch holes in his chest and abdomen, blood pouring out.
It was clear—the battle ended in a mutual defeat.
Jimmy rushed to the arena, administering simple medical treatment to both wizards so they could stand up.
The two wizards performed a wizard's salute to Jimmy, then went to the platform to begin healing.
Richard and Haas entered the arena.
"It's been about five years since we last met, Richard," Haas said, showing a grin on his face. "Last time, we drew. This time, you won't have the same luck."
Hearing this, Richard sighed.
"You're still so focused on winning, Haas. We fight not for victory or defeat, but for learning and growth. If you only care about winning, you'll disturb your own heart."
Except for the first match, all of Richard's battles were focused on learning. He continuously drew experience from Haas and honed his combat skills.
Victory or defeat didn't matter to him—if he could grow, even losing a hundred times would be worth it.
"Enough talking. Battle is about winning. If you don't pursue victory, then the battle has no meaning."
With that, Haas erupted with energy, his body growing an extra inch as his black bone armor pierced through his skin, and a strange, blood-scented aura filled the air.
Richard, watching Haas, also activated his bloodline transformation. But compared to Haas's overwhelming momentum, Richard's t
ransformation was quieter and more rapid.
In the audience, the two healing wizards glanced at the arena.
"The guy with the bone armor is going to lose," the rune giant wizard muttered.
