Chapter 15: From Cards to Fists
Everyone, including Celina herself, stared at the five puffballs on the field, dumbfounded.
In the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, only the Duel King, Yugi Muto, had ever showcased the Five Kuriboh Brothers. Most duelists only recognized the original Kuriboh. The sight of all five gathered together was surreal.
Titan let out a low, mocking laugh.
"Five 300 ATK monsters? Do you really think those furballs can defeat me?"
Yumi's smirk didn't waver. "Did you forget? Thanks to Rainbow Blessing, they can all attack you directly this turn."
Titan's grin faltered.
"Go! My Kuriboh brothers, direct attack!"
At Yumi's command, the five Kuriboh brothers charged across the rainbow bridge. The puffballs zipped past Summoned Skull, bouncing and crashing straight into Titan's massive form.
[Titan, LP 4000 -> 2500]
Titan hissed, staggered by the unexpected hit.
"Tch! Just a scratch." But his annoyance was clear.
They all watched as his body flickered, one of his legs seemed to vanish like mist. Yumi wasn't surprised. He already knew Titan's Shadow Game was a fraud.
Titan started to speak, trying to keep up his shadowy illusion.
But Yumi cut him off. "Save it. I'm not interested in hearing your fake shadow game."
Without missing a beat, Yumi raised his hand.
"Now I activate Kuribah's effect! Combine my five Kuriboh brothers to form Kuribabylon!"
The five Kuriboh brothers stacked together, and burst into a cloud of smoke. As it cleared, a massive furball emerged, dark cyan-green, fanged, horned, no arms, huge feet, and fierce glowing eyes.
"Kuribabylon's original ATK is equals the combined ATK of the Kuriboh brothers used to summon it!"
[Kuribabylon, 1500 ATK]
"But we're not done. Kuribabylon gains 300 ATK and DEF for each 'Kuriboh' monster I control or that's in my Graveyard!"
The graveyard shimmered, ghostly images of the Kuriboh brothers and original Kuribohs appeared behind Yumi. Four colorful brothers, five standard Kuribohs, plus Kuribabylon itself, ten Kuriboh monsters total.
"That makes ten monsters, so Kuribabylon gains a total of 3000 ATK/DEF!"
[Kuribabylon, 1500 -> 4500 ATK]
A wave of shock rippled through the cave.
"4500!?!" Syrus and Chumley gasped. Even Jaden's eyes widened.
This Kuribabylon isn't like the one used by Yugi Muto; this version of Kuribabylon has a mixed effect from the anime and real-life. Its ATK's effect is based on the anime version, becoming the combined ATK of the five Kuriboh brothers, while the rest is the real-life version.
Yumi pointed forward.
"End it. Kuribabylon, direct attack!"
The hulking furball roared down the rainbow bridge. Summoned Skull could only watch helplessly as Kuribabylon rammed Titan, its horn piercing through him as his body dissolved into mist.
[Titan, LP 2500 -> 0]
Titan's illusion shattered, the fake shadows crumbling around him. The duel was over.
With the duel finished, Celina immediately let go of Yumi and bolted toward Alexis, her heart pounding with worry.
"Celina, wait!" Yumi called after her.
But before he could stop her, the snake-like carvings on the walls of the dark chamber lit up. From their mouths, beams of light shot forth, converging to form a swirling dark orb that began encasing both Titan and Yumi.
Yumi clenched his teeth, pain shooting through his injured arm. With his right hand, he drew a card and slammed it onto his Duel Disk.
"I'm counting on you!"
In a flash, Exosister Asophiel appeared, drawing her glowing bow and firing light arrows at the forming Shadow barrier. But the darkness persisted, the Shadow Game trying to trap them.
Yumi drew again, summoning Exosister Gibrine. The two Exosisters fought side by side, their holy light tearing into the dark sphere, slowly forcing it back.
Titan stared, stunned.
"T-The Shadow Game... it's real!?" His voice shook as the false mysticism he'd been peddling came to life before him.
Yumi gasped for breath, dropping to one knee, sweat beading on his forehead. The barrier dissipated, the light of his Duel Spirits saving him.
"Huh?"
Looking up, Yumi saw Titan stood before him. His expression twisted with rage. He raised his massive fist and swung it down toward Yumi.
The hell!? He's switching from cards to fists!?
But before Titan's blow could land, a slender, powerful hand caught his fist mid-swing.
"Oh? You've got some nerve trying to lay a hand on my little brother."
The confident, feminine voice echoed through the chamber, freezing everyone in place. Eyes widened in shock.
Before them stood a girl with long black hair flowing down her back. She wore a sleeveless white top with elegant blue patterns, a short white skirt, black stockings, and sleek black boots. Her Obelisk Blue jacket draped over her shoulders like a cape.
Crimson eyes glared at Titan, a smirk playing on her lips.
Titan tried to pull away, but she held firm, strength radiating from her grip. In one swift motion, she spun and unleashed a powerful kick, her long leg crashing into Titan's arm, shattering his metal Duel Disk and snapping his left arm.
"AHHHHH!" Titan howled, clutching his broken limb.
But she wasn't done. Her fist rocketed forward, slamming into his face. Titan's mask shattered. He flew backward, landing in a heap several meters away.
Celina blinked, stunned. So does the other Slifer Reds.
"Whoa..." She barely kept up with the speed of what just happened.
The girl planted her hand on her hip, smirking down at Yumi as he knelt, still catching his breath.
"Long time no see, little brother."
Yumi stared up at her, eyes wide in disbelief.
"M-Momo-nee!?"
...
Some time later, the group emerged from the Abandoned Dorm, the night air cool against their skin. Jaden and his group help Celina carry the still unconscious Alexis out.
"Guys, this is my older sister, Momoyo Kawakami," Yumi introduced, brushing dust from his uniform. Then he glanced at his sister, who stood casually at his side. "And these are my friends: Celina, Jaden, and... Jaden's friends."
"Hey!" Syrus and Chumley protested in unison, but let it slide.
"Older sister?" Celina blinked, eyeing Momoyo more carefully now.
Momoyo leaned lightly against Yumi, one arm draped over his shoulders. Her long black hair framed her face, with X-shaped bangs that gave her a striking look. Her figure was slender but powerful, with shapely legs, confident posture, and a presence that drew attention without even trying.
Celina's gaze flicked down for a moment, comparing herself; her own chest was decent enough, but next to Momoyo's curves... well, no wonder Yumi didn't look twice at her.
A frown crept onto Celina's face.
"Wait a second... Yumi, I thought you told me you didn't have any siblings?"
Momoyo raised an amused eyebrow. In a flash, she hooked her arm around Yumi's neck, pulling him into a playful chokehold.
"Oh? Is that what you've been telling the girls?"
Yumi coughed, tugging at her arm. "I never said that! I said I was an only child until my parents adopted a younger sister."
Momoyo smirked, loosening her grip just enough for him to breathe.
"You kids should head back to your dorms," she said, giving the group a lazy wave. "I'm gonna catch up with my adorable little bro here."
...
Later that night, back at the Slifer Red dorm.
"Oh? So you're sharing a room with a girl? Not bad, little bro." Momoyo smirked as she looked around the cramped space. "As expected of my Yumi."
"Huh?" Celina blinked, confused at the remark.
She opened her mouth to say something, but the vivid memory of Momoyo's kick shattering a metal Duel Disk and breaking a man's arm flashed through her mind.
Yeah… maybe best not to argue.
The two siblings dropped onto the bottom bunk of the three-tier bed, sitting side by side.
"Um... Momoyo-senpai, what's your relationship with Yumi?" Celina asked cautiously, genuinely curious about this big sister who'd appeared so suddenly.
"Relationship? I'm his older sister, well, not by blood." Momoyo said easily, leaning back on her hands. "I lived at Kawakami Temple with my grandfather and a bunch of monks. Then one day, Gramps brought home this scruffy nine-year-old runaway."
"Nine?" Celina blinked and turned to Yumi. "I thought you said you left home at twelve?"
Yumi glanced away, caught. "It... sounded better that way. 'Kicked out at twelve' is less pathetic than 'abandoned at eight.'"
"Neither of those is good!!" Celina yelled, throwing her hands up. "What kind of parent kicks out an eight-year-old!?"
Momoyo gave Yumi a soft smile, ruffling his hair. "Those who didn't see the treasure they had."
Then she smirked. "And here I thought I raised you to be honest. Looks like you turned bad the moment I wasn't around."
"Ojichan always said I did better without you a-"
Before he could finish, Momoyo clamped him into a headlock, pulling his face straight into her chest, smothering him effortlessly.
"Ah, ah!?"
"Tsk, tsk. You shouldn't badmouth your big sister in front of your girlfriend." she teased, squeezing tighter.
"I'm not his girlfriend!" Celina burst out, cheeks red. Sure, she liked Yumi a little, but not like that!
"Oh?" Momoyo grinned down at Yumi as he flailed. "So my little brother still hasn't grown up. You're hopeless."
Yumi finally wriggled free, gasping for air. "Enough already! I'm not a skirt chaser like you."
"Aww, you're still so cute. Since that's the case, how about you going back to look after your big sister, just like before?" Before he could protest, she grabbed his face again, tilting his chin and making him nod against his will. "Good boy. As expected of my beloved little brother."
Celina: "..."
Yumi: "..."
The Duel Spirits: "..."
No one said a word. Out of respect… or fear.
Yumi knew better than to challenge his sister's antics, nothing good ever came of it.
Celina kept quiet, still haunted by the mental image of that metal and bone-shattering kick.
And the Duel Spirits? They wisely chose silence. After all, they couldn't even be seen, and no one wanted to provoke the terrifying big sister of their master.
The next morning.
Celina walked beside Yumi as they made their way toward the Slifer Red cafeteria, the early sun casting long shadows behind them.
"I never expected your sister to be so..." Celina muttered, searching for the right word.
"Hot?" Yumi offered, glancing at her.
Celina shot him a look, but after a second, sighed. "Well, I mean... you're not wrong. But that's not what I meant."
"Bold?"
"Close, but no."
"Sincere?"
"That's it." Celina nodded, then squinted at him. "Unlike someone I know."
"Hey, I told you, 'kicked out at twelve' just sounded better." Yumi shrugged.
"You could've avoided the lie altogether!" she huffed.
"You kept asking. It slipped out." Yumi said, deadpan. "Family's a complicated topic, alright?"
By the time they reached the cafeteria and sat down, Celina folded her arms. "So, let me get this straight: you got kicked out at eight, lived at a temple, and made money by winning duels? Then decide that when someone asks, instead of saying something like, it's complicated, you decide to say that you got kick out at twelve. No wonder you're weird."
Before Yumi could answer, a familiar voice chimed in, "And he skipped meals or ate so little he's practically skin and bones."
"Momoyo-senpai!?" Celina nearly fell out of her seat as Momoyo casually slid onto the bench beside Yumi, draping herself against him like she owned the place.
Without missing a beat, Momoyo snatched a piece of salmon from Yumi's plate with her chopsticks, popping it into her mouth. "Mmm. So I hear you're the strongest Slifer Red now? Not bad. After breakfast, let's go for a run, then a duel. Maybe then I can put some muscle on you, little bro."
She pinched his arm, making him wince.
"Sis, I'm fine." Yumi tried to protest, but one look at Momoyo's teasing grin told him resistance was futile. It was either go willingly... or get dragged.
He sighed in defeat.
That's when he finally noticed, Momoyo's uniform had changed. Her undershirt was black now, and instead of her Obelisk Blue jacket, she wore a Slifer Red one draped over her shoulders.
"What the... Where'd you get that jacket? Which student you rob this time?"
Momoyo rolled her eyes. "As if I'd need to rob anyone. I was a Slifer Red first. Crushed the duel exam, but my written test was garbage, so, welcome to Red. Sound familiar?"
Yumi and Celina shared a knowing glance. 'Just like us.'
"So... why the jacket now?" Yumi asked, watching as his sister stole his egg roll and devoured it in one bite.
Momoyo grinned. "Because you're here now. How could I let my helpless little brother live alone in a room with a girl? Who knows what she'd do to you?"
She polished off his miso soup, totally shameless.
Yumi: "..."
Celina: "..."
Celina leaned closer and whispered, "I think I get why you never talk about her now."
Yumi gave her a flat look. "You think?"
