Chapter 11: TST [11]
At this moment, from the high platform outside the arena, Jade watched the two speeding figures on the track, a trace of worry flickering in her eyes.
Although she didn't get along with Isla, she had to admit Isla's strength.
To summon a monster with 2100 Attack Points in the very first turn and even set cards in the back row ahead of time—that was more than enough to prove Isla's solid fundamentals.
While this series of moves might seem unremarkable to pro duelists, within the Middle Division of Duel Academy, it was already quite advanced.
Morgan's deck, although janky and underworldish, wasn't exactly stable; If she wanted to win, she'd have to rely on surprise and unpredictability.
Jade clasped her tense hands and pressed them against her chest.
There was one more thing that concerned her.
What exactly was that condition Isla had added before the duel began?
...
On the field, the howling wind in her ears and the monsters before her that felt almost real filled Morgan with excitement.
Ever since transmigrating, she had been confined to a hospital bed. Even when dueling, it was through virtual duels on a computer.
She had never experienced the real thrill of a live duel.
Tilting her feet, her Duel Skateboard maneuvered gracefully around a bend.
Morgan had already adapted to the current speed and was tailing closely behind Isla.
"My turn, draw!"
Morgan swiftly drew a card. The glint of the card traced a silver arc through the air.
She was currently using an upgraded version of the same shadowy deck she had used against Jade. The operations were relatively simple, without any complicated chains.
"I set one monster and two face-down cards. Turn end!"
In the next moment, three face-down cards appeared on Morgan's field.
And under this state, it was impossible to check any of their details.
Seeing Morgan's play, Isla was a little surprised.
Morgan actually didn't recklessly summon a monster to attack? Looks like last time's mishap finally taught her some caution.
A flicker of relief passed through Isla's eyes.
Even so, that wasn't a reason to go easy—on the contrary, she would launch an all-out assault!
Jade, seeing Morgan's set cards, shivered involuntarily.
She already had a touch of PTSD, afraid that Morgan might flip over something that would directly burn away her Life Points.
"My turn, draw!"
Isla called out with commanding vigor. Unlike her usual cold voice, only during a duel would she show her fiery side.
She placed the drawn card into her hand, then slapped a Spell Card onto her Duel Disk.
This was the card she had added to her hand last turn thanks to the effect of General Wayne of the Ice Barrier.
"I activate the Spell Card from my hand, Medallion of the Ice Barrier."
A card flipped open beside Isla, glowing with golden light as she activated it.
"Add 1 monster that includes 'Ice Barrier' in its name from your Deck to your hand."
Her Duel Disk shuffled, then pushed out the card she needed.
"I add the Tuner monster Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier to my hand!"
"A Tuner monster?!"
Jade's expression turned grim at Isla's declaration.
The appearance of a Tuner meant Isla was preparing to Synchro Summon a powerful monster.
And given Isla's deck was known for its aggressive and destructive power, Jade hoped Morgan could survive this turn.
"I summon Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier!"
Just as Jade had predicted, Isla had already set up everything needed for a Synchro Summon.
"I tune Level 5 General Wayne of the Ice Barrier with Level 2 Cryomancer of the Ice Barrier!"
"Come forth! Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!"
The Cryomancer transformed into two glowing rings and encircled General Wayne.
A dazzling flash erupted—the two monsters dissolved into light and circuitry.
A majestic dragon materialized on the field.
It resembled a long spear, and beneath its snow-white scales surged a volatile flame.
With wings outstretched, invisible gales roared as Gungnir soared behind Isla.
[Gungnir, Dragon of the Ice Barrier] Level 7│WATER│Dragon│2400 ATK
A Level 5 monster and a Level 2 Tuner monster tuned together to summon an even stronger monster—
This was a Synchro Summon.
The windstorm from Gungnir's arrival threw off Morgan's balance on her Duel Skateboard. She swayed before finally regaining control.
Yet her amber eyes were calm, unshaken.
Despite Gungnir's overwhelming presence, there was no fear in her heart—only growing excitement.
"I activate Gungnir's effect!"
"I discard 2 cards from my hand to the Graveyard. Destroy the same number of cards on my opponent's field."
Isla discarded two cards after a moment of deliberation. To be safe, she chose to destroy Morgan's set monster and one face-down Spell/Trap.
"I destroy your monster and one face-down card!"
Gungnir roared and unleashed a stream of searing red flames, obliterating both cards.
"The monster you set was Morphing Jar?"
Isla's expression twisted oddly.
But she quickly snapped back to focus, preparing to declare an attack.
Morgan now had no monsters on the field—this was a golden opportunity.
However, Morgan clearly had no intention of taking a 2500 direct hit. She immediately flipped a face-down card.
"Activate Trap Card, Threatening Roar!"
"Your opponent cannot declare an attack this turn!"
Due to this card's effect, Gungnir was halted.
"Hmph! Lucky this time!"
If Gungnir had destroyed Threatening Roar, the outcome would've been different.
"I Special Summon Speaker for the Ice Barriers, turn end!"
A blue-haired girl appeared on Isla's field. As long as another "Ice Barrier" monster was present, she could be Special Summoned.
Isla planned to apply further pressure.
Morgan had already seen through Isla's intentions and smiled indifferently.
"My turn, draw!"
As she looked at the card she drew, a gentle smile lit up Morgan's face.
"You've finished setting the board, right? Time to show you something amazing!"
