Chapter 13: TST [13]
A gear adorned with a blue shield blocked in front of Morgan, nullifying the damage from Ring of Destruction.
Morgan burst through the smoke and debris of the explosion, her Life Points completely unharmed.
This chain, once meant to end in mutual destruction, now resulted in a one-sided blow to Isla.
Due to the virtual effects, Isla's body was covered in scorched marks, and even her Duel Skateboard was spewing smoke.
She barely managed to steady herself, avoiding the kind of wipeout Morgan had suffered earlier.
At this moment, she stared at Morgan's back in shock.
To be honest, it was the first time Isla had ever found herself chasing someone from behind. She had always stood above her opponents, leaving them far behind with grace and precision.
That very pride had made it difficult for her to form proper relationships.
Which often led to arguments.
It had been the same with Morgan.
She'd liked Morgan's sunny and energetic nature and had wanted to become close friends, sharing everything.
Yet she would always unconsciously put up an aloof front, approaching others as if from a superior position. That attitude inevitably led to friction—even triggering a Duel over a wagered card.
It had never been her intention.
Especially at the moment Morgan fell from her Duel Skateboard, regret had surged in her chest.
Thankfully, Morgan returned safely to school. That, at least, prevented things from ending in catastrophe.
She had thought of visiting her in the hospital, but lacked the courage. Even if they met, she wouldn't know what to say. So in the end, she never went.
What Isla never expected was that Morgan would return like a whole new person.
Able to execute such precise, aggressive chains?
Was this really the same naive Morgan from before?
A big question mark hovered in Isla's mind, but there was no time to dwell on it now—she was already at a disadvantage.
She glanced at her hand, eyes sharpening.
She had a strong hunch: forget holding back—if she didn't go all out, this Duel could end in disaster for her.
"I summon Revealer of the Ice Barrier in Attack Position from my hand!"
A red-haired woman clad in a crystalline ice gown appeared amidst the chilling wind, twirling beside Isla.
"This card's effect: Discard 1 card to Special Summon 1 Tuner monster with 'Ice Barrier' in its name from your Deck!"
Isla sent a card from her hand to the Graveyard. Her Duel Disk beeped as it searched, ejecting the card she needed.
She swiftly grabbed it and slammed it onto her Duel Disk with flair.
Win or lose, her momentum could never falter.
"I Special Summon the Tuner monster, Defender of the Ice Barrier!"
A field of frost spread beneath Isla's feet, and the glowing Defender circle gradually took form.
With a Tuner monster on the field, she could now Synchro Summon this turn.
However, the total Levels of these two monsters was only 7—clearly not enough to satisfy her.
"I activate the Continuous Spell Card, Freezing Chains of the Ice Barrier!"
A Spell Card flipped open next to Isla, bursting with brilliant light.
"When this card is activated, I can Special Summon 1 Level 4 'Ice Barrier' monster from my Graveyard!"
"I Special Summon Zuijin of the Ice Barrier!"
Zuijin of the Ice Barrier was a Level 2 monster. That brought the total Levels of her monsters to 9.
Morgan noticed it too—Isla couldn't summon more monsters, which meant this was the perfect time to deal damage to her LP.
"I activate the Trap Card, Just Desserts!"
"Inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each monster they control!"
Thanks to that effect, Isla took another 1500 damage. Her LP dropped to 2500.
She gritted her teeth, shooting Morgan a resentful glare, and barked:
"I tune my three monsters to Synchro Summon Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!"
The trio of monsters turned into shooting stars. In a flurry of icy wind, Trishula appeared on the field.
[Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier] Level 9│WATER│Dragon│2700 ATK
Just as Morgan predicted, Isla had summoned Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier.
Trishula had a potent effect—it could simultaneously banish cards from the field, hand, and Graveyard.
Which made it incredibly versatile.
Besides Ice Barrier Decks, it appeared in plenty of others.
That's why Morgan had used up all her set cards immediately.
She now had no cards in hand or on the field. Trishula's only available target was her Graveyard.
Isla clearly realized this as well, but with the bow already drawn, she had to fire the arrow.
"I activate Trishula's effect: Banish your Lava Golem from the Graveyard!"
That card had caused her immense trouble—of course, it was the first she'd eliminate when given the chance.
After resolving its effect, Trishula could still attack.
With Morgan having no defense, she would have to take the hit directly.
"Battle! Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, attack Morgan directly!"
