Hiroshi shook his head. "Damn, it looks like I'll need to see Ando after this."
On the ground lay a bloodied, broken Hyo.
In the beginning, Hiroshi thought it would be a relatively simple fight to win due to his defensive enhancements. Still, Hyo had shown more tenacity than many of the other superhumans.
Hyo had managed to fracture four ribs, break one of his arms, and break his nose before passing out.
He looked down at Hyo with a small smile. "Be proud. You are strong."
Hyo was the weakest member of the Order.
He was the only one with no crazy genetics, so he had to work harder than everyone else. Nobody knew the struggles that he had to go through to get into the Order.
His pain tolerance was borderline inhuman, and he turned his body into a wall. However, it wasn't enough for someone who was an actual wall.
Hiroshi smirked. "I'll let you live for today. Should we meet in the future, I won't spare you."
He turned around and started walking away.
...
*grab*
...
Out of nowhere, an arm locked around Hiroshi's neck.
His eyes widened. "Wha-!?"
Looking down at the arm, he noticed it was familiar. It was the man who he had just defeated.
His eyes were wide. 'He can still move!?'
*creek*
His neck was slowly bending back.
Hiroshi swung wildly to get Hyo off him, but he had an iron grip. Nothing would keep him off of Hiroshi's neck.
He grabbed Hyo's arm and tried to pry him off, but Hyo wouldn't budge.
*creek*
As his neck bent even more, he saw Hyo's face.
While it was bloodied, there was something off about him.
He was still unconscious.
One thought was in Hiroshi's mind. 'He's fighting on instinct!'
Hiroshi scowled as he kept moving and elbowing to get him off, but it was useless.
It was a struggle until...
...
*pop*
...
All resistance left his body as his neck snapped backward 90°
Hyo fell backward with Hiroshi as he finally stopped moving; Hiroshi was dead, and he was alive.
He knew he would have a near-impossible chance of defeating those with superior genetics, but there was always hope in his mind.
However, he had proven that he could surpass those with raw talent and enhancements with training and hard work.
He was unconscious, but his body felt fulfilled.
He had won.
...
Toji P.O.V.
I'll need to figure out this Order stuff before an entire organization hunts me down. I'll get the forty million in the contract if everything goes well.
Since I've been here for a while, I've already gotten the first sixty. It is enough for now, but it doesn't hurt to have more.
Speaking of the Order, I'm done with the JAA.
I've been screwed over and threatened. Had it not been an organization of assassins, I would've cleared out that shithole.
I might indirectly work with them in the future, but I'm done being monitored and shoved around by them.
Although Kindaka and the teens were alright, they ultimately work for the JAA.
Who knows what they would do for them?
Hanging out with them gives the JAA access to more information about me.
Question is, what do I do now?
I'm no good at anything other than killing.
I could do sports since my body is special.
Well, that is a question for the future. The first thing I've gotta do now is get off this island.
The whole island invasion isn't any of my business anyway, now that the JAA has put a hit on me.
Given that they most likely want me dead or neutralized, the contract is just a sheet of paper.
*sigh* No forty million, then.
Enough thinking about the future. Let's get off this stupid island.
As I stand up, I sense something wrong.
Danger.
The strange thing was, it felt different.
There was nothing but pure hatred coming from the source.
That wasn't all.
He was barely below Takamura's level.
...
*PHEW*
*grab*
...
Without looking at the attack, I moved my left arm and caught an arrow aimed at my head.
*drip*
*drip*
The friction from the arrow cut my hand.
A wide smile appeared on my face. "That wasn't bad."
Damn, that was one nasty shot. Had I not reacted to it, I would be in rough shape.
My smile turned malicious as I spoke. "You can have this back!"
*WOOSH*
I spin and hurl the arrow like a spear toward the original direction.
Looking back at the direction, I notice that there isn't anyone there.
Hah, he's trying to sneak up on me.
I speak out loud toward a wall. "I'm curious. What did I do to piss you off this much?"
A teenager reveals himself. The main defining feature was that he had hollowed eyes and a neutral face.
*Woosh*
Without saying a word, he vanished from his spot and jumped toward the right wall.
Landing, he pulled back the string and aimed it toward my head.
*PHEW*
Seeing the arrow's trajectory, I lean my head back before I get an arrow to the skull.
It flew just above my face.
I coughed up the inventory curse, which curled around my body during this movement.
It could expand shockingly fast. The process could be near-instant.
Reaching in the inventory curse, I pull out my pistol and aim at the teen, but he surprisingly jumped at me.
*clank*
Pulling a dagger on the back of my pants, I clash it with his bow.
Moving my right hand, I aim the pistol at his face.
I haven't seen this kid before. He's not in the Order, so he's most likely with these invasion freaks.
*BANG*
Before he was shot in the face, he jumped and flipped over me, attempting to choke me with his bowstring.
I moved the dagger upward and deflected the metal string.
*BAM*
As he landed, I kicked him in the stomach.
*BOOM*
He went flying and crashed into the wall.
*PHEW*
An arrow came flying out of the smoke aimed at my stomach.
Spinning at the last second, it cut my shirt.
My eyes slightly narrow.
This might turn out bad if I'm not careful. I should stop messing around and end this before he becomes a problem.
The kid speaks from the smoke. "Kumanomi was right. You are pretty tough."
He walks out of the cloud, keeping his neutral face and hollow eyes. "In any case, I'm still gonna kill ya."
A slight smirk appears on my face. "Come on then, show me what you got, brat."
