Chapter 645: Confrontation

So when Donnie woke up, he saw Steve Cotting waiting for him in the living room with a smile on his face.

"Boss, all the white people in Atlantic City are enraged, they have now united and are beginning to prepare to storm into the North District to teach the blacks a lesson," Steve Cotting said.

Donnie smiled and asked, "How are the people in the North District reacting?"

"They are also confused now. Those young black men are indeed residents of the North District, but after this incident, they can't be found anywhere in Atlantic City. Anyway, everyone now believes that they have run away!" Steve Cotting replied.

"It looks like your plan was a success!"

Helen came down the stairs at this time and said to Donnie with a smile.

This wasn't Donnie's arrangement, but Nucky's. As for whether those young blacks had left Atlantic City or had completely disappeared,

Donnie didn't care. He knew the current situation was exactly what he and Nucky wanted to see.

Arranging welfare for the people of Atlantic City was to better control them, not arranging it for the North District was to not offend the people from the other three districts and the tourists.

So, to balance this matter, what was needed was an incentive that would make the North District willingly keep quiet!

And now, this incident was just that incentive!

"Has Nucky gone over yet?"

Donnie asked.

"This morning, Mr. Nucky called your office saying he would take control of the situation on the scene first, and I've already sent Chris to send people over. Now we're just waiting for you, boss!" Steve Cotting said.

Donnie intended to keep the situation within a controllable range, not to disturb the order of the entire Atlantic City.

"Then let's go!"

Saying this, Donnie prepared to head out.

Seeing this, Helen immediately reminded him, "Change your clothes before you go out!"

Donnie was still wearing his robe!

Donnie turned around with a smile and said, "Don't you think that appearing in a robe now is more in line with my sense of urgency?"

Helen: "..."

The entire North District was now like a bird startled by the mere twang of a bowstring because just outside the entrance to the North District, a crowd of more than a thousand whites had gathered. These white people, carrying various clubs and weapons, were clamoring to tear down the entire North District.

Leading them was Mobley, the leader of the 3K Party. Mobley had now changed into the military uniform he used to wear in battle, holding a long spear in his hand, shouting loudly.

"Drive these abominable people out, out of Atlantic City!"

Irving's calves were going weak with fear at the sight of the infuriated crowd outside. The events in Tulsa were still vivid in his memory, and he dared not make any rash moves now, for fear that Atlantic City would become the next Tulsa.

If there's anything that gave the people of the North District any comfort at this point, it was probably the armed force that lay between them and the whites!

Nucky stood in the middle; beside him were the officers of the Atlantic City police force, and further down the street, were the security personnel from United States Logistics. These people were uniformly dressed and all had semi-automatic rifles in hand, a deterrent that kept both sides relatively calm, without any conflicts erupting.

On one side, Nucky struggled to persuade the whites not to let their anger cloud their reason and do something bad for Atlantic City.

On the other hand, he was also persuading the people of the North District to hand over the young men!

However, since those young men were long gone, the people of the North District naturally could not hand them over!

In fact, even if the young men were there, given the character of the people of the North District, they would not have handed them over!

Just as the verbal conflict between the two sides was becoming more intense and about to lose control, a pathway was opened from the outside to the inside of the white crowd.

At this time, when everyone looked over, they discovered that Donnie had arrived, wearing his robe!

At this moment, Donnie wore a look of concern, with a hurried gait, clearly having rushed over in a hurry.

"I was just asleep for a while, how could such a thing happen?" Donnie reached the middle of the crowd and shouted out in grief.

"Mr. Block, you've arrived just in time. These damn people of the North District dared to let their people hurt us. Now they not only refuse to hand them over but also block us from going in to search, it is extremely abominable!" shouted Mobley.

This was followed by various echoing shouts from behind him.

Donnie shouted loudly, "Everyone, everyone, on my way here I've been informed of the situation. Now, if you all would give me, and Nucky, this honor, let me understand the situation on the scene first. And please rest assured, Nucky and I will surely give everyone a fair result for this matter!"

The voices of the crowd decreased from loud to soft, and slowly, under the control of the people in the crowd, there were no more voices.

Nucky, standing beside Donnie, watched Donnie's behavior and the people's reactions, and a bitter smile surfaced in his heart once again. At this moment, he actually understood that his position in Atlantic City had long been replaced by Donnie, but at the same time, he was relieved that Donnie was indeed as he had thought.

He had not completely sidelined him, which became apparent the moment Donnie was able to take him along just now!

Donnie then asked Mobley, "How is the girl doing now? Is there anything wrong with her body?"

Mobley replied, "She's still in the hospital. The doctor said Maria has multiple fractures all over her body and needs a long period of rest. But she's supposed to take her SAT this year, and her injuries are sure to affect her upcoming exams!"
