Assassin God: Rise of the Strongest Player

Chapter 18: Chapter 18 : Hawkeye

Chapter 18 : Hawkeye

Nash, in the company of the beautiful Eileen, arrived at the location of the [Fiery Marsh].

From the distance, they could hear noises, a sign that the place was rowdy. Just as they quickly thought, many other players were present and preparing to enter the dungeon in their own different ways.

Some were buying items while others were selling them and to a degree, scamming naive players.

Some others were busy trying to recruit players on their team so they could have enough manpower for the quest.

"Band of Brothers looking for a level 2 berserker and above. Come and join if you are interested, you stand a chance of winning one of two slots for fire resistance potions."

"Huh?" the companion of this person snapped. "Seriously, man. Cut it out. Those fire resistance potions are costly as fuck to be given away for free."

"Chill," the other responded. "With this, they will also be indebted to us."

"Mage class needed. Meet me if you are interested but bring your own fire resistance item or potion, whichever one you have."

"I have 4 potions but I can't buy anymore because I'm low on coins. Can you lend—"

"Fuck off, noob! You think we are a charity organisation?"

"I'm a healer. Can I join you guys?"

"How many potions do you have?"

"12 potions."

"Hmm. Okay, but that might not be enough. Do well to get more before we enter."

A few of the very desperate ones even approached Nash and Eileen to recruit them but the pair politely refused the offer.

Nash did not need an entire team of players to clear a level 2 dungeon.

While some took their rejection in good faith, some others did not and cursed them but Nash and Eileen did not reply. Sometimes, they even laughed.

Everybody wanted to get their hands on the flame resistance potions but they cost an arm and a leg, more so now that they were in demand since they were scarce at this moment.

Everyone couldn't get up to the needed 5 points of fire resistance and it was obvious, but that didn't stop them from trying.

One of these potions cost about a 100 copper coins in the novice village but those selling on the site they were on sold for between 150 to 200 copper coins and this depended heavily on how desperate their unfortunate clients were.

The [Fiery Marsh] would take a few days or more to clear and each potion granted the 5 points of fire resistance but for 10 mins only, after which, the player would have to take another one or risk failure.

One would need to spend at least two to three thousand copper coins for a start. They believed it was worth it because if they could lay their hands on good equipment then it was money well spent.

Nash knew all these, as well as the existence of the fire resistance potions, but he didn't want that.

He understood that the potions were not a sustainable way to go since the rate of consumption of the potion once you enter would be crazy, unless you buy a large number of them and that, in itself, was a waste of money.

This was the reason behind him vehemently seeking out items that offered fire resistance for him and Eileen.

Nash did a few stretch exercises to warm his body up and then he turned to Eileen.

"Let's go."

Eileen nodded.

Just then, as they were about to start their quest, a voice called out her name.

It was a voice she was all too familiar with.

"Eileen."

Eileen froze.

"Is that really you, Eileen?"

******

"Is everyone ready?" a young man spoke as he approached a small group of players, who were gathered around and discussing, as his armour mail clanked while walking.

One of them looked at him and nodded. "Yes, Hawkeye. We all are."

Hawkeye nodded in response as well and held the hilt of his sword.

"Then I take it that we all remember our original plan. We can't afford to fail. That's good."

"Definitely. Don't worry about us."

Hawkeye turned the person who spoke, giving him a deadpan face expression while slowly pointing an accusing finger at him.

"Yeah, right," Hawkeye sneered. "That's what you said last time too, Kai."

Like everyone else, this group was also preparing to enter the [Fiery Marsh] since it was the next logical path to progress in Apex Online.

"Look, Hawkeye," Kai suddenly spoke, snapping his fingers forward. "Isn't that…"

Hawkeye, who had turned in the direction Kai pointed him too, stared in surprise as he saw a figure ahead.

He recognised this person instantly.

How could he not?

Blonde hair. Check.

Charming blue eyes. Check.

Moderately sized breasts. Check.

An elegant walk. Check.

A large witch's hat. Check.

"Eileen?" Hawkeye muttered, completing Kai's statement.

"It's definitely her. Without a doubt, it's Eileen."

Hawkeye did not hesitate and rushed to meet her with his group following him immediately.

"Eileen," he called as he drew closer, making Eileen stop.

"Is that really you, Eileen?"

Eileen swallowed and turned around.

This was a face that she was not hoping to see.

Hawkeye moved closer to her, holding her shoulders with a smile on his face.

"It's really you, Eileen! We've… I've been searching for you these past few days, you know."

"H-Hawkeye," Eileen managed to stutter his name.

"I send you messages and you don't even reply," Hawkeye continued to rant. "Did you even get them? Seems like you've unfriended me. You made me worried."

"Senior Eileen, do you know this guy?" Nash suddenly stepped in, pulling one of Hawkeye's arms from her shoulders.

Hawkeye was surprised and moved back a few steps.

Nash gave Eileen a sidelong glance, his face stern. "Is he bothering you?"

Eileen's cheeks burned tomato red with embarrassment as she looked away.

After a second or two, she turned to boldly face Hawkeye.

"I already left the team, Hawkeye. Isn't that what you all wanted?" she said. "You have no right to control me and I don't owe you any explanation. Please leave me alone."

Nash's eyes narrowed.
