Bound To The Shadow Alpha

Chapter 17: Chapter 17

Things have gotten quiet since the Alpha has been moved back to his room. Apparently, this isn't the first time, so everyone here has gotten used to it, but it was a bit unexpected today. Like I heard, this happens often, but only on full moons, and the Alpha would've made preparation for it and would seclude himself from everyone else till the full moon passed.

"This was quite the night, right?" Drex said, yawning loudly.

"Yeah," I replied absentmindedly. My mind was still playing back everything that happened, and I couldn't help but wonder what the Alpha was about to say before he suddenly blanked out. He was reaching out for me, I was sure of that — but why?

"Alpha Kaelith will probably be in a shitty mood when he gains consciousness back. Scratch that — he'll definitely be in a shitty mood. He hates losing control over his wolf and will probably be hard on himself and everyone else for a few days."

We were back at the servant quarters now, but none of us seemed prepared to sleep. Instead, we lounged in the small sitting room-like area.

I glanced at Mara, who was awfully quiet. I feel bad for her — everything that happened tonight was because of her mistake, and I'm not sure what the Alpha will do if he finds out.

"What—what was the thing they injected into him? Won't he be mad when he wakes up?"

I asked Drex, but the real question in my mind was: won't it cause any harm to him?

"Nah," he waves me off. "That was wolfsbane. It can be very lethal to normal wolves, but it does little to Alphas. What they injected was just the right amount to make him unconscious — and it's a pre-instruction he made for situations like this."

"Ohhhh." Now I understand why it seemed planned — they've done this before. But the thought still made me feel unsettled. Although I've heard of Alpha Bastian's brutal and crazy wolf countless times, even before I was brought here but witnessing it is another issue entirely.

People call him beast— because his wolf is unruly and bloodthirsty. A lot of tales have been told about him which made people fear him . There was even a time when people said his wolf eats human flesh rather than dead animals. Even his Gamma and beta has quite the reputation.

I also saw a glimpse of the Gamma who was said to have saved me from when the building collapsed. I never got to talk to her, but I'm extremely curious as to why she would save me when they killed almost everyone that night.

"The Gamma — that was the Gamma, right?"

Immediately I mentioned her, Drex's face lit up like a fireball in a very comical way.

"Yes. She's a goddess. You saw how swift she was when handling the situation? She's extremely smart and strong and sooooo hot. She's like the female version of Alpha Bastian, and when those two work together... they have this crazy chemistry. She and Beta Ryan are most likely the only ones that can handle Alpha."

My heart clenched with an uneasy feeling, but I quickly waved it off.

"Are they that close?" It's surprising to see an Alpha close with — anyone. Back at home, Alpha Bastian sees anyone on the rank as threats. That's why his relationship with the Beta and Gamma is so tense

"Yeah. Beta was adopted by the late Beta when he was seven... I think. And Gamma Demi is the daughter of the last Gamma, so the three of them basically grew up around each other. It may not look like it, but those three have been through hell together — some of it which scarred Alpha's wolf."

His eyes looked sad as he talked about them, and I couldn't help but be extremely curious about what he meant, but I knew it wasn't in my place to ask.

If the Alpha overheard our conversation, he'll probably think I'm gathering information on him — and that's a valid reason for him to finally kill me.

"You should all go to bed. I won't tolerate tardiness tomorrow, so off, off."

Agatha clapped her hands, her usual stern look on her face as she sent us off .

Drex muttered a quick goodbye before entering his room. I looked at Mara, who was still deep in her thoughts, before I nudged her. She seemed shaken and confused at first before she collected herself and stood up from the chair.

"Goodnight, Agatha," we said in unison before going into our own room.

---

Morning came pretty fast , and here I was again, standing in front of the Alpha's room with cleaning supplies. It's been about 10 minutes now, but no sound came from the room — which is highly unusual.

I knocked on the door again, but no reply came, so I decided to just go in. The door creaked open slowly, making a small annoying sound.

The lights in the room were on, but there was no sign of anyone in the room. Had the Alpha left already?

The bed looked untouched — exactly like how I left it yesterday . Did he even sleep here? I would've sworn no… if I hadn't seen them carry him in myself.

Does that mean he woke up and left early?

Is he okay?

No. I shouldn't be worried if he's okay or not. I shouldn't be worried about someone who'll put a blade to my throat at any opportunity.

I shouldn't even be thinking about him at all

With that resolution in mind, I stared doing my work— successfully distracting myself from anything relating to a particular person.
