Chapter 20: Ch.20 : The Self Proclaimed Heroine
In Class 11-E, the atmosphere was calm as the teacher explained the lesson. But suddenly, a girl with long blonde hair tied with a black headband stood up from her seat. It was Lily—the class's notorious delusional dreamer.
"Teacher, please listen to me!" she shouted enthusiastically.
The teacher sighed and looked at her with clear fatigue. "Lily, what do I have to listen to this time?"
Lily grinned, her eyes sparkling with confidence. "I have a theory! The Earth is about to enter an apocalyptic era, and I will shine in it! I, Lily, will be the main character of this world!"
The entire class went silent. Her classmates began whispering, a few chuckling under their breath. A quiet boy sitting next to her, named Moco, only sighed while glancing at her.
"Tch… main character? Don't you get it? I'm the real main character here," Moco muttered to himself.
"Look at me—cool, quiet, mysterious. That's what a true protagonist is all about."
Lily heard him and immediately glared. "Cool? Mysterious? Hah! That's just an excuse to hide the fact that you're a pathetic introverted guy!"
They began bickering, drawing everyone's attention until the teacher finally lost patience. "You two, out! Stand outside the classroom, now!"
---
Outside, Lily and Moco stood with crossed arms, still blaming each other.
"This is all your fault! If you didn't act so smug, I wouldn't be punished!" Lily complained.
"Don't blame me. You're the one who interrupted class with your weird theories," Moco replied coldly.
Lily let out a deep sigh. "Fine, if you want, I'll show you who the real MC is."
Moco raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Lily pointed down the hallway. Nic was approaching with Leona and Jenny. Jenny was happily twirling around him, singing a made-up song about herself, while Leona strolled beside them with a calm smile.
Moco watched them and muttered, "Damn it! He's got two pretty girls with him… but why does one of them act so weird?"
Lily chuckled. "If you can't be like that, it means you've failed as an MC."
But then something surprising happened. From the opposite direction, Nia appeared and stood in Nic's path. Lily's eyes lit up.
"Whoa, the student council president! This is going to be a dramatic confrontation!" She began imagining an epic scene in her head.
Instead, Nic casually pinched Nia's cheek. "Don't block the way."
Nia simply smiled and stepped aside, joining the group behind him. Lily's jaw dropped.
"What the heck?! Even the student council president is smitten?! He's the real MC in real life!"
Moco continued to stand there trying to look cool as Nic and his group approached the classroom.
---
At the doorway, Nia glanced at Lily and Moco. "Why are you two outside? Got punished?" she asked with a smile.
Lily gave a little laugh. "This is all part of my grand plan. Kukuku…"
Nic stepped into the classroom to speak with the teacher. After a short conversation, he called one of the students to follow him to the teacher's room. But before he could leave, Moco suddenly stopped him.
"Hey. Listen up. You're not the main character here," Moco said with a forced cool tone.
Nic blinked. "Main character? What are you talking about?"
With overconfidence, Moco explained, "A real main character is cold, indifferent, but not cruel. That's the true MC, bro."
Nic took this seriously and began jotting notes in a small notebook. Lily looked at him in disbelief.
"What the heck? Why is he writing down Moco's nonsense?"
Nic closed the notebook and nodded. "Interesting. I'll try that."
Immediately, he changed his demeanor to a more stoic one. When Jenny tried to cling to his arm, Nic brushed her off. "Sorry, I'm busy," he said coolly, hands in his pockets.
Jenny squealed with delight. "Kyahhh~ Nic is so cool!"
Nic, Jenny, Leona, and Nia walked away, leaving Moco and Lily standing dumbfounded.
Moco clenched his teeth. "Damn it… he is the real MC."
---
As Nic's group disappeared down the hall, Vivi appeared. She smiled warmly, greeting everyone she passed—including Lily and Moco.
"Hey, you guys got punished?" she asked casually, stopping in front of them.
Lily hesitated, a bit awkward. But Moco responded quickly, "None of your business." He tried to stay cool, though Vivi wasn't fazed at all.
Ignoring his tone, Vivi asked, "By the way, did you see a guy walking with two girls? I heard he was around here."
Moco sighed and pointed toward the hallway. "They went that way."
Vivi gave a big smile. "Thanks!"
Before she left, Vivi glanced at Lily, who was nervously avoiding her gaze. In a polite but cutting tone, she said, "If you're being punished, maybe don't run away. Just a suggestion."
Lily could only force a nervous smile as Vivi walked away.
---
Watching her leave, Moco gritted his teeth. "Damn! Even that popular girl is looking for him!"
But when he looked back at Lily, her expression had changed. Her eyes sparkled with ambition.
"Then it's decided. I'll become the female lead! I'll join them and make Nic like me the most! Because I am the true heroine!"
She turned to Moco with a smug smile. "Oh, and don't be sad. I know you probably don't have a girlfriend."
Moco chuckled like a villain. Lily blinked in surprise. "What's so funny?"
From around the corner, a seemingly ordinary girl appeared and hugged Moco. "Hey, Moco. Don't listen to this loser," she said, glaring at Lily.
Lily's jaw dropped. "N-no way!"
Clenching her fists, she shouted, "Just watch! I'll get close to Nic with my own power!"
She ran off, even though she was still technically being punished, leaving Moco and his girlfriend laughing behind.
---
In the quiet hallway, Lily stopped in front of a door labeled with a sign. She squinted at it curiously.
"This must be the place," she whispered. Looking around cautiously, she stroked her chin.
"Should I go in? But… why am I even thinking about it? I'm the greatest! Of course I'm going in! And if they're not here, I'll just leave!"
But instead of dramatically barging in, Lily reflexively knocked on the door.
Knock knock knock.
Inside, Nic was lounging on a sofa when he heard the knock. He looked around. "Eh, is someone still outside?"
Violet, leaning against the armrest, replied, "I was the last one in. Everyone's here."
Olivia stood up gracefully and walked to the door. "I'll check."
When she opened it slightly, she saw Lily standing with a black blindfold over her eyes. Olivia raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing here?"
Still blindfolded, Lily shoved the door open. "I just want to see! Don't block me!" But since she couldn't see, she tripped a little as she entered.
Vivi, lounging casually, observed with interest. "Hey, didn't I tell you not to run from punishment?" she teased.
Lily, still blindfolded, pointed confidently. "I don't care what you say!"
Unfortunately, she pointed at the wrong person—Fanny, who stood nearby.
"Well well," Fanny said playfully. "Looks like someone escaped detention."
Hearing her voice, Lily jumped back. "No! Monster! Don't come near me!"
Annoyed, Fanny pulled off Lily's blindfold. "Enough with the drama."
Once her eyes adjusted, Lily looked around the room and gasped. "What is this?! A prison full of girls?! And this club feels… like a living room!"
Fanny rolled her eyes and covered Lily's mouth. "Nic, got any duct tape?"
Nic sighed. "So you're Lily, huh? What do you want?"
Lily pulled Fanny's hand away and declared proudly, "I came here because I'm the true heroine!"
Nic frowned. "Heroine?"
Yui, sitting in the corner with her notebook, explained, "Heroine is a term for the main girl who stays beside the MC. Like… I guess that's us? Maybe?"
Nic nodded slowly. "So you're saying you're the one who should be by my side?"
Lily nodded enthusiastically. "Yes!"
Before Nic could reply, Leona stepped up with a sharp look. "You've got some nerve saying that."
Lily took a step back, but tried to stay calm. "Don't come closer! I'll blow up this club if you don't accept me!"
Nia, who had been watching silently, walked over and kicked Lily lightly, making her stumble forward. "Stop being dramatic," she said flatly.
Vivi chuckled and looked at Nic. "Why not just let her join? Better than her being noisy out there."
Nic shook his head. "If she joins, things will get chaotic."
Lily quickly swore, "I won't mess anything up! I'll be on your side until… until zombies take over the Earth!"
Finally losing patience, Nic stood up and stared at her. "Enough. Lily, I'll ask you once. Do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Lily's eyes widened, then she beamed proudly. "Straight to girlfriend? Not even member? WAHAHA—of course I do!"
But before she could celebrate, the other girls—Vivi, Leona, Fanny, Nia, Jenny, Yui, Olivia, and even Violet—pounced on her with sofa cushions, trying to keep her from causing more chaos.
Nic could only hold his head and sigh. "I knew this would get messy…"
