As Alex Carter walked behind Panam, admiring her long legs, he asked:
"Panam, aren't you worried about what I might do while you sleep?"
Feeling the topic turn a bit suggestive, Panam couldn't help but recall what had happened a few hours earlier.
She replied with an air of nonchalance, "What is there to worry about? It's not like you haven't seen it. I trust you're not that kind of person."
"To be honest, I was quite confused at the time," Alex admitted with a smile.
"But you still made the right choice, didn't you?"
Panam's tone was much gentler than it had been during the day.
It even reminded Alex of their interactions later in the game.
"Alex, you're quite special. People like you are rare in Night City," Panam said as she opened the door.
There's no denying it—a little secret between two people can be quite significant.
At least now, Alex could clearly feel that the relationship between him and Panam was warming up rapidly.
Even though they had only known each other for a day.
As the door swung open, a foul-smelling air rushed in.
The walls of the room were covered with all sorts of writing, graffiti, blood, and even unknown substances.
Shredded rubbish was piled up in a corner.
Compared to other places in this century, the living conditions were appalling.
But even so, this was one of the better motels outside of Night City.
After all, Alex wasn't too fussy about accommodations.
It's just... the adult toys on the bedside table between the two beds were a bit much...
Panam quickly tossed them into a drawer, explaining, "These motels are like this, everyone's seen it."
"I know, I know. Let's get some rest. Good night."
Without further ado, Alex lay down to rest.
...
...
The sun rose and set, and a whole day passed.
Now, Alex was sitting in the car with Panam, admiring the city lights below and the first light of dawn.
It was five in the morning.
Under the cover of darkness last night, the two of them had completed all their preparations.
Now they were waiting for the AV that Hellman was aboard to approach.
At that moment, all Alex had to do was press the button in his hand to trigger the electrical field below, launch a pulse, and shoot down the AV, just like in the storyline.
Looking at the power station below, Panam sighed, "This Kang Tao asset is worth several million eurodollars, and we're going to blow it up."
"How do you feel?"
Hearing Panam's question, Alex replied with a wry smile, "If I had a choice, I wouldn't do it."
Hearing this, Panam was momentarily stunned, then she understood.
"I almost forgot, Kang Tao is from your country. What do you call it? The flood washing the Dragon King's temple?"
"The flood washed the Dragon King's Temple."
"That's right, that's it. Why don't we think of another way?" Panam asked tentatively.
However, Alex shook his head, "It doesn't matter, they're wealthy enough. A few million eurodollars won't hurt them."
What a joke.
Kang Tao wasn't just a debt-free company by design.
Its market value was as high as 525 billion eurodollars.
A few million was like dropping a jelly bean for them.
Besides, these millions were nothing compared to the benefits they would bring in the future!
Moreover, that wasn't the most pressing issue right now!
The real concern was the safety of Mitch and Scorpion!
In the game, after the AV was shot down, Scorpion and Mitch, who happened to be nearby, thought it was a distress situation and rushed to help.
As a result, the armed personnel on the AV mistook them as the attackers, leading to a firefight.
Ultimately, Mitch was captured, Scorpion died in action, and many members of the Aldecaldos were killed.
Panam blamed herself for it for a long time.
Thinking of this, Alex reminded her, "Panam, if I'm guessing right, Jackson Plains is within the Aldecaldos' territory."
"To be safe, I suggest you contact Scorpion and Mitch."
"If the AV crashes and they're nearby, that'll be a disaster."
Hearing this, Panam's heart skipped a beat, and she broke out in a cold sweat.
"Damn, how could I forget this!"
Cursing herself, Panam quickly picked up the walkie-talkie in the car.
"Scorpion, Mitch, are you out there?"
"Panam? Are you nearby too?"
As soon as Panam spoke, Mitch's voice came through the walkie-talkie.
Panam glanced at Alex gratefully, then said, "I'm nearby. When the AV goes down, make sure you stay clear."
"Received."
Hanging up the walkie-talkie, Panam slumped back in her seat, relieved.
Scorpion and Mitch were indeed moving around the area.
She couldn't imagine what might have happened if Alex hadn't reminded her in time.
"Thank you, Alex. You saved Scorpion and Mitch's lives."
Alex smiled slightly, "No need to thank me, your brothers are my brothers."
Panam nodded firmly, looking at Alex with a newfound warmth.
Alex was about to say something when he suddenly caught sight of a black dot in the sky, approaching from the direction of Night City.
"Panam! There they come! From the East!"
