Chapter 4: Binding Vow

My eyes wandered around the dark forest, illuminated only by the pale moonlight. I hadn't had much chance to experiment with cursed energy yet, but from what I knew of the anime, cursed energy could be used to enhance one's body to superhuman levels. The enhancement, however, was limited—somewhere between street-level and low city-level in terms of power. But what truly mattered were the cursed techniques one was born with. Gojo was the strongest because of his Six Eyes and Infinity technique. Without them, he'd still be strong, but not the strongest. He'd be a powerhouse, but not the powerhouse.

But I had an advantage here—thanks to the system, I could acquire multiple cursed techniques and use them however I wanted. I didn't need to rely on being born with the right technique to become the strongest.

Alright, enough sidetracking. Back to the main objective: figuring out how to use my techniques.

I walked toward a tree, focusing cursed energy into my right hand. I pulled it back slightly, twisting my wrist, and then—bam!—drove my fist into the rough bark. The impact left a crack on the tree's surface. I stepped back, assessing the damage. Okay, I need to improve my cursed energy manipulation if I want to break the tree in half.

I focused more energy into my hand and punched the tree again. Bam! The sound of the impact echoed through the forest for miles. The tree groaned as cracks spread across its surface before it finally toppled over. I glanced at my right hand, a smile forming on my face. That was only 10% of my cursed energy, and I didn't even use [Ratio].

I turned my attention to my next target—a giant rock. This is going to be a long night.

BAM! BAM! CRACK!

After punching the massive rock several times, it finally began to break.

The first two punches were without using [Ratio], but after activating it, things became much easier.

To explain [Ratio], it's similar to critical hit chances in a video game. The cursed technique creates a precise line and a point where I have to strike. If I hit that exact spot, the enemy suffers double the damage.

Looking at the cracked rock, I decided to place a binding vow on [Ratio]. It's on the lower end of good cursed techniques, but with a binding vow—like Nanami it—I could turn it into an advantage.

Joining my hands together and closing my eyes, I focused. Honestly, I had no idea how to apply a binding vow properly, but as the saying goes—if you don't know how to do something, just wing it and see the outcome.

"I, Alex Grey, am placing a binding vow to use the Ratio technique only on my right hand and left leg in exchange for greater power."

I think it worked, I thought with little confidence, but I felt a surge of power in my right hand and left leg when I activated my cursed technique, [Ratio].

A confident smile formed on my face as I made my way toward a tree. Stopping in front of it, I lifted my left leg and kicked precisely at the point where the Ratio line appeared.

The tree immediately shattered into multiple fragments, and the force of my kick was so strong that it sent the massive trunk falling sideways for several meters.

"Alright," I muttered, moving on to the next technique—Ino's cursed technique. It could only be used if the user wore a mask that covered their entire face. To activate it, I had to perform hand signs, similar to Bum Megumi's shikigami summoning, but thankfully, I didn't have to fight a them to use them.

The first shikigami was Kaichi, the Guardian Dog, which gave me a horn I could levitate and shoot at my enemies. It could also change its trajectory mid-flight if I wanted. The second was Reiki, the Sacred Turtle, which surrounded my feet with water, allowing me to slide and move swiftly. The third provided pain resistance, and the last one—Ryu, the Dragon—was the most fearsome. No one had ever survived its summoning, except Sukuna.

Ryu resembled a chain dragon, with a long, serpentine body and a line of fiery scales running down its back. Its small hands seemed almost comical, but it more than made up for it with its raw power. I performed the hand signs for Ryu, and the shikigami materialized in front of me. It looked around, momentarily confused, before surveying its surroundings and lowering its head in respect. I gently touched the surface of Ryu's head, which felt as hard as stone.

"Hey, Ryu," I said, looking into its glowing eyes. "I have a mission for you. Go to Gotham City and find the a small gang Gather information about them—there plans, there money, everything. And also don't be seen by others." Ryu nodded, its stone-like head cool under my hand, before it took off into the sky, disappearing into the night.

"It's finally time for me to learn hand-to-hand combat in real life, what better then real combat situation in I thought.
