Chapter 20: 20
Ashton lay in Samael's room, his mind racing. His thoughts were jumbled, trying to process everything that had just happened. He had seen Noah drag Felix out of the room by the hand, and the sight alone was enough to confuse him. The way Felix had been pulled away so suddenly, and the look on Noah's face, suggested there was something more going on between them than Ashton had ever realized.
Why had Felix never mentioned anything like this before? Ashton couldn't shake the feeling that he was missing a crucial piece of the puzzle, but before he could dwell too much on it, a sudden urge to leave the room overtook him. He needed to talk to Felix, to understand what was going on. Without a second thought, Ashton shot up from the bed and moved toward the door.
But as he reached for the handle, he felt a firm grip on his wrist.
Noah's hand had caught him, and the sudden touch sent a jolt of energy through Ashton's body. His heart skipped a beat as his skin prickled from the contact. Instinctively, he shrugged away from Noah's grip, his body reacting before his mind could catch up.
Noah, realizing his mistake, immediately released Ashton's wrist, his expression shifting to one of apology. "Sorry," he said quickly, his voice softening. "I didn't mean to shock you like that."
Ashton stood still for a moment, trying to calm his racing heart. The intensity of Noah's presence was overwhelming, and the room felt smaller now, the air thick with unspoken tension. Samael's voice broke through the silence.
"I saw you lying unconscious in your apartment," Samael said, his tone gentle but filled with concern. "There was light and dark aura swirling around you. I feared something had happened, so I brought you here. I know this sudden change must be overwhelming, but I mean you no harm."
Samael hesitated for a moment, his gaze meeting Ashton's with a hint of uncertainty. "What I'm trying to say is… Can we get to know each other more? Let's be friends. After all, we're going to the same academy."
Ashton stood frozen, unsure of how to respond. His mind was flooded with questions and doubts, trying to piece everything together. But Samael's words struck him, and despite the whirlwind of emotions swirling inside him, he felt a small spark of curiosity.
He had always kept his distance from people, never allowing anyone to get too close. Trust had been something he'd lost long ago. But there was something about Samael—his sincerity, his warmth—that made Ashton wonder if maybe, just maybe, he could let his guard down.
The silence stretched on before Ashton let out a quiet sigh and gave a small nod. "Okay," he muttered, his voice barely audible. "Friends."
The word felt unfamiliar, yet there was a certain weight to it, a possibility that Ashton hadn't anticipated. He wasn't sure what this meant, or where it would lead, but for now, it was enough.
Samael smiled, his expression softening. "Great," he said, his voice genuine. "I'm glad we're on the same page."
But even as he spoke, Ashton's heart and mind were still at odds. His heart was undeniably drawn to Samael, but his mind remained cautious, unsure of what Samael's true intentions were. There was a nagging sense that this was just the beginning, and Ashton couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get much more complicated.
