Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Battle Challenge
Tianhai City.
Even as a third-tier city, its night lights shone brightly.
On the main road, Gu You ran swiftly — under the glow of the streetlamps, his figure blurred like a phantom, darting toward a single destination.
"Where are you now?"
"Old place…"
Gu You hung up, pocketing his soul communicator. His eyes sharpened, and his speed didn't slow for a second.
'No matter who you are — even if a god shows up, I'll find a way…'
When he saw Xin Ya again, the man looked completely worn down. His face was pale, his soul power had clearly weakened, and Gu You could tell he was deliberately suppressing his rank — though why, he wasn't sure.
Gu You himself had changed so much that Xin Ya was momentarily dazed. Just a few years ago, this boy was a child — now he stood in the public eye, stronger than even him.
"Not even a trace?" Gu You asked quietly.
"None. Nothing! Even after I reported it to the local authorities, they couldn't find anything. We checked all the soul tool surveillance nearby — not a single anomaly. It's like they just vanished into thin air." Xin Ya pounded his own legs in frustration. "It's my fault, all my fault… I promised you back then…"
Gu You closed his eyes, forcing down the furious storm in his chest. 'I can't panic. I absolutely cannot lose control right now. Getting angry is useless.' He took a deep breath. "Take me inside the orphanage. I'll investigate myself."
He firmly believed — if someone had tampered with this place, there must be some trace left. Even if the evidence had been wiped, he could call on a sliver of divine power to search deeper.
Inside the familiar grounds, Gu You activated his Purple Demon Eyes, sweeping every detail. His powerful spiritual energy expanded outward, making every corner appear crystal clear to his senses.
'Such terrifying spiritual power…' That was Xin Ya's first impression. Normally, spiritual energy couldn't even be sensed by others — but Gu You's was so dense, so concentrated, it was leaking out visibly. This was something no one below the Spirit Abyss rank could achieve. Xin Ya realized with a bitter smile: he no longer understood the boy standing before him.
But — nothing. Gu You frowned.
He slowly raised a hand. At his fingertip, a force beyond this world began to gather. A speck of rainbow-colored light, barely a millimeter wide, condensed.
"Go."
The little light shot toward the orphanage's center, where it burst outward in a wave of expanding brilliance.
And then —
A surge of black, fiendish energy exploded upward, as if responding to Gu You's presence. The black aura formed words in the sky, illuminated under the glow of the expanding light, making them perfectly legible.
North Extreme Plateau — Battle Challenge!!
Gu You's pupils narrowed into vertical dragon slits. A terrifying aura of destruction rippled out, shaking the entire orphanage grounds. Xin Ya clutched his chest in pain, feeling like his life was hanging by a thread — if Gu You so wished, he could end it instantly.
Parts of the orphanage dissolved into pure energy, flowing into Gu You's body. In his left hand, he gathered the energy into a crackling orb of destruction, kneading it between his fingers.
Gu You raised his palm toward the sky. The destruction orb shot up, colliding with the black letters — both shattered into nothing.
"I accept!!"
Gu You had already guessed who was behind this. Even though the dark aura wasn't exactly the same as the Evil God's power, it was dangerously close. He could clearly sense it — the Evil God's strength had evolved. This was no small matter. He would have to prepare carefully if he hoped to win this battle.
The North Extreme Plateau — also known as the core of the Far North — was the largest, widest plateau in the region. Besides the Star Dou Forest, it was the only other known land where hundred-thousand-year soul beasts still existed. It was one of the few remaining truly dangerous zones, a place officially declared forbidden by the Federation government to protect its dwindling soul beast populations. With the warming atmosphere of the Douluo Plane, soul beasts were becoming rarer, and even Soul Douluo or Titled Douluo had a hard time surviving there. No one would casually wander into that kind of death trap.
'Yuezi…' Gu You clenched his fists. 'If I had known this would happen, I never should've left Qianyu's body intact. But honestly, from both a moral and emotional standpoint, I really couldn't bring myself to destroy her… after all, she was only six or seven years old. Still a child…'
But what shocked him the most was that Yuezi had survived. 'What kind of power was able to bring her back? Everything points toward one person — or maybe another, more frightening possibility.'
There were still so many unanswered questions. Yuezi's strength had clearly skyrocketed. Gu You knew: this time, he couldn't face it alone. He'd need outside help. But first — there was still a certain treasure at the Spirit Transferring Tower in Eastsea that he hadn't picked up yet.
Before leaving for Eastsea City, Gu You firmly instructed Xin Ya, "Keep this quiet. Don't tell anyone — no leaks. If the government knows, they know; after all, I have contacts in the Federation, and they'll suppress the news."
After a full day of maneuvering, Gu You managed to obtain a primary riot-phase Spirit Ascension Platform access pass. Once again, he prepared to enter the Eastsea Spirit Ascension Platform.
The staff member who processed his card inserted it into the machine, his eyes flashing with barely restrained excitement. This was the legendary boy with the hundred-thousand-year spirit ring! Just being able to serve someone like him was enough to brag about for a lifetime. But honestly, he was puzzled: shouldn't this boy be competing in the Eastsea Alliance Tournament right now? How did he have time to come here?
Originally, the riot-phase wasn't scheduled to activate today — but as soon as this boy arrived, the higher-ups directly called down authorization for a forced opening. Completely absurd.
The metal chambers integrated into the wall, preparing for entry.
The space around him twisted slightly. From the darkness, light emerged once again. Fresh air rushed in — a feeling Gu You had already grown familiar with. He had once again entered this virtual world.
The Spirit Ascension Platform's energy was limited. The more soul beasts killed inside, the greater the drain. No one knew exactly where that energy came from. For most people, they were restricted from entering again for several days, but that only applied to those without money or connections. For truly wealthy, powerful families, they could simply stack resources until they produced a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring.
Gu You ran straight into the depths, hoping his senses weren't wrong.
The light within the forest began to dim — not because night was falling, but because the vegetation was too dense for sunlight to penetrate. The air grew damp, heavy with the smell of plants… and the sharp stench of soul beast droppings. It was primal, wild.
Gu You had often wondered whether the primary Spirit Ascension Platform connected all the way to the original Star Dou Forest's core area. After all, the maps were said to be reconstructed at a 1:1 scale. But after some research, he realized he had been underestimating things —
The platforms were actually interconnected. No matter the level, as long as you were confident enough in your own strength, you could push deeper and deeper, crossing into higher-level platforms. But to break through that barrier… you first had to defeat the powerful soul beasts guarding the way.
